Hi Barett, while you're here are you able to say whether the game will run on duel core processors with four logical cores?

For those asking dual core - one of the min-specish dual core workstations I have does indeed run the game, and not too terribly. I haven't played all that far though, and I'm not sure if we'd officially support it, so your mileage may vary.

It's a Xeon 5150 2.66GHz, with an 8800GTX (512mb), 4GB RAM.

That's about all I can say.

Also while you're here Barrett, does DAI support resolution scaling? I think BF4 has this option.

I believe so, but not 100% sure. I'd need to confirm back at work next week.

There isn't. DA:I seems to use the usual display driver method when it comes to detecting resolutions. That means it'll support whatever your display driver supports...which is pretty much any res you can think of.

3840x216. For those who like their super ultra MEGA widescreen 160:9 ratio.

Hey @Barret Does DA:I support hyper threading?

Unsure, I suspect it'd be the same as BF4 for HT (if that's known?).

On today's Twitch stream, Mike and Cameron talked about 4k support through Mantle, which confused me.

If one had a setup powerful enough to run at 4k resolutions and a proper 4k display, wouldn't the option just be there...regardless of Mantle? Is it a UI scaling thing?

Pretty sure he tried to mean that Mantle could additionally help those running 4K, not that it's required for it.

I wonder if we can enable the Mantle API right from Day 1 or whether we have to wait for AMD to release Mantle ready drivers or something .

Should be good to go on launch afaik.

I wonder how many disks it is coming on?

Physical media will be shipped only on 5" floppies. (so, a LOT of them)

I'm still waiting for the 970 to ship, but I'm sure it'll be super smooth maxed at 1200, let alone 1080. I'm not sure what SLI or Crossfire we've explicitly tested, folks at Edmonton would've done that.

Can we benchmark test the game? Like they had in Shadows of mordor?

Not to my knowledge.

Looks like there actually will be! I just found out haha.

Hey Barrett, not to pester you or anything but last week there were a couple questions that you wanted to wait until after the stream to answer, and to my knowledge the stream didn't address them so:

1. Can we turn off/alter particle effects in combat?

2. The question was asked whether we could resize the UI components but Mike misunderstand as someone asking about the 8 ability limit. Can the hotbar/mission parameter/health icons be scaled up or down in size?

Thanks.

No worries! I also wanted to have the stuff open so I could check directly and not go off incorrect memory.

1. Not explicitly, but effects and post-process quality can be adjusted. Adjusting quality may result in the leaner visuals you'd like, you'll have to tweak to your best liking.

2. I think hotbar is as it is, and health/quest/mission can be hidden (in non-combat or entirely), but not resized far as I can tell.

Although I already know that the 8 ability limit is fixed, I would like to know if we can access and directly use spells from our spell menu--or do we need to drag-and-drop them into the ability bar before using them? :P

Unless there's a way I'm not aware of, they need to be on the ability bar (which can be swapped around whenever you're not in combat).

Thank you, I just have a follow-up question about #2: can they be hidden separately, such that the health UI and hotbar pops up in combat but the mission one always stays hidden?

Health/portraits visibility are indeed a separate setting from quest pane.

Any idea why they made the health bars on PC UI that is on the right of the character's icon? Why not follow the same like the consoles where it's below? I believe that way it wont cover up so much space on the screen as i find it distractive. Thanks for your time.

I think they might actually be the same in latest builds, but I don't have a console to confirm. Far as I know, PC+Controller would essentially have the same UI as console.

I have the ACX 2.0 970 delivered unto my grubby greedy hands now, so I'll have to give it a whirl this evening and see what the fuss might be about.

I'm sure you will quite pleased with it. IMO, the issues with the 970 ACX 2.0 was blown slightly out of proportion. Some of the criticism is valid but I took a lot of it with a grain of salt considering some user reports confused fan noise with coil whine and what not.

With 2x200mm case fans I wonder whether I'll be able to hear anything else. WHOOOOOSH

You've got noisy 200mm fans? You might want to check them out. Generally, since they spin at a lower RPM, the 200mm fans should be quieter than the 120mm ones.

One of them's like a 160cfm, but I haven't actually built the PC yet (tonight!) so I was just assuming I'll be hearing a lot of airflow.

He means wear an antistatic wristband and ground yourself. You can do this by plugging in your power unit (KEEP IT TURNED OFF THOUGH) and touch the outside of the box. Or, buy an antistatic wristband and an antistatic mat and clip the wristband to the mat.

Or just.. make sure you don't have a static charge before touching your graphics card. You can damage it that way.

Hi Barrett, I was hoping you could answer some questions:

1. Is DA:I a 64-bit executable?
2. Is there support for triple buffering in-game?

3. Is there support for borderless fullscreen?

I am asking because you can't force triple buffering on 64-bit executables, so you're pretty much stuck with regular ol' Vsync unless there's a triple buffering option in-game, or borderless fullscreen.

Thanks!

I would also like to know the answer to these.

Im thinking #3 is a yes based on the engine, assuming #1 is a yes because of the req's, but have no idea what the answer to #2 might be based on the modification of the engine.

1. Yes

2. Currently not exposed as an explicit option; it seems to be a variable in FrostBite but I've no idea if/how it's integrated into the game settings or not.

3. Not presently but there's a bug on it. While I'm sure the engine allows it, it still needs to be integrated into the game UI/options.

This is interesting news. How will it work? In the games I've seen it in (Eidos games, mostly, like Just Cause 2 or Hitman Absolution), it's been some custom designed in-game cutscene with a bunch of special effects. Is that how it will be, or something else?

Yeah basically. It'll run a scene at a fixed timestep (I think every frame will try process a 30Hz frame), then just go as fast as it can. So maybe a bit more like Street Fighter 4's benchmarker?

Well the 970 is installed and working beautifully.

Save that damned coil whine.

Why does my luck suck so hard? :crying:

Is there a video out there somewhere showing what this sound is? I've got my EVGA970 rig all up and running but haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet (much DAI hours). I'd be curious what to hear for. Not under strain (like just running windows and browser), I don't hear anything out of the ordinary, it's a surprisingly quiet setup.

Yeah Rifu got me. Mine is pretty slight and my fans are usually fairly loud so I can barely hear it. But it's definitely there for me :(

wait you got it too? XD

Ah, no (well maybe, I haven't tried under load yet), but I remember hearing it in the past and never knew what the source was.

So after finally giving the 970 a whirl under load (see sig link for the particular model), I could indeed hear a bit of whine. While I had all audio muted. Totally fine unless you prefer gaming completely silently.

What's your thinking for the 970 over the 980? I'm building a similar PC (some parts differences, e.g. motherboard). I've been debating the graphics card a great deal. Is there added value (vs. cost) for the 980? Is there a benefit to looking at another nvidia card?

TBH, I heard excitement for the line/series from a few, had heard good things about EVGA's service & support, and the 970 fit right into my budget better than the 980. Lately I've also favoured Nvidia's drivers over AMD's, but mostly just from my own limited experiences. That's it in a nutshell really. I'm not all that versed in hardware details and specs anymore, don't have the time or patience to keep up with tech news. So I couldn't really say which is the better choice for performance vs cost. This thread sure has a crazy amount of knowledge being dropped though!

A nice headset will take care of blocking out any extra noises coming from your machine. I'm very fond of my Logitech G430 headset.

Astro A50s, representing. So expensive. But so good.

Question I am gonna buy the inquisitors edition for the PS4 when it comes out, but I am planning to buy it later on for the PC as well (normal version), so I wanted to ask is the DLC i get for the PS4 gets transfered to the PC?

Quite sure that DLC/promo item redemptions are restricted per platform I'm afraid.

To clarify a statement made in this thread:

The game will NOT run on a dual core machine. The machine referenced above is actually 2 CPUs each with 2 cores (thus Quad core)

A dual core machine will not run the game.
