Also, if you are only intending to play games then going with an i5-4690K can save you some money too.

Although if you intend to create video content, stream and what not, then the hyperthreading of the 4790K will be better suited for those tasks.

I'm going to just game, but the person I'm with does a lot of video editing etc. and will cover the difference so it works out for me.

Should be enough to max out DA:I at 1080 p at 30 fps, no?

Lol, get your ass out of here. Unless you mean downsampled from 4K.

I would go for 16GB RAM (4x4, with a quad-channel board). 4GB modules are dirt cheap these days.

That's my current build guys. Thinking I could probably slice budget down a the motherboard and the ram. Any recommendations on motherboard? I really like ASUS though and have a hard time trusting ASROCK/MSI due to bad experiences. Never tried Gigabyte. I have extra storage but I need that SSD to go with my extra storage. I could probably get a not superclocked card but it's only $20 extra so why not. I don't really have a set budget as I was originally going to spend $2k and get a 5820k build but I've since sliced it down. Maybe I can get it closer to $1600 but I don't want to sacrifice too much. I could probably do without on some mobo features just as long as I have decent overclock capability and the motherboard is built very sturdy with gaming in mind.

If you can wait a few weeks, there will be some versions of the GTX 980 and 970 available with double VRAM (8GB).

It's interesting that BF4 minimum OS is 32-bit (Vista) with 4GB of RAM, and DA:I is now 64-bit (7 or 8.1) still with 4GB.

  • 32-bit (non-Server) Windows is limited to 3.something GB of RAM physically.
  • Without special configuration -- that no casual gamer would do -- 32-bit Windows apps are limited to only 2 GB of virtual address space. So more RAM is not accessible without lots of extra effort on the developers' part.
  • Vista just sitting there doing nothing after a fresh reboot might take 1 GB of memory. The footprint has gotten smaller with 7 and 8.x.
  • BF4 shipped with both 32-bit and 64-bit executables; DA:I will be just 64-bit.

In effect, the BF4 minimum could have been declared as 3GB of RAM, and you'd only lose maybe a quarter-GB of RAM that the game itself wouldn't use, but would be used for disk caching or the other programs you had running at the time (like Origin). By switching to 64-bit, the game has almost double the RAM available/required -- you can actually use all 4GB of RAM. And having only one executable simplifies testing.

I just realized that I have no idea how old my PSU is. I can remember that it's a 750W corsair, but I have no idea when I bought it.

My newegg history goes back to 2008 and it's not in there, so it must be older than that.

In fact, if my newegg history is to be believed, I've replaced every other part in my system at least twice since I bought that PSU, including the case.

I have one gripe that the characters icon on the left and the health bars are too huge that i find them distractive. Is there an option to scale the UI ala Divinity Original Sins has it?

These big UIs are good for TV and if you play from a far. But i play using a PC monitor so it would be great if they have UI scaling. Thanks

Again, this is a question I'd very much like to see answered come Monday.  This and the unveiling of the PC-specific in game menus, and tactics/ability screens.

If you can wait a few weeks, there will be some versions of the GTX 980 and 970 available with double VRAM (8GB).

Any links to these stories?  By Nov 18th, if there are indeed 6-8 GB versions available, it would be a no-brainer.  edit: Nevermind, I found some and there's no official word, just rumors.  Some say it won't be till well into 2015 as well.

Is that confirmed or rumor? If it's rumor I'm not waiting around forever. EVGA has a step-up program that I could probably take advantage of if it does happen.

I am glad that they tuned the Color of the Health Bars from a "blinding-you-like-a-thunderbolt-green" down to a more overall artistic gamestyle fitting darkgreen. Was too shiny on the older Alpha/Beta Screenshots.

I still hate the ugly Avatars from our Companions. Or to be more precise: The ugly comicstyle. And not even a static Pic of the Inquisitor - just that wannabe hand. Well that Hand is at least not that ugly as the rest lol

Bioware, why do you go in multiple Art directions here?

Its good that we can turn off the Hud globally and the whole time.

I hope the Gameplay on Monday will give us enough Details how the Mice + Keyboard Interaction works. *PleaseDoNotLetItBeABadConsolePort*

BTW: Does anyone know (Rumors) when Bioware will reveal the rest of the Bonus Content for the (Digital) Deluxe Version?

After I have seen finally enough Keyboard+Mice Gameplay and know the rest of the Content for the Digital Deluxe Version, I can finally made my Pre-Order Decision.

I've been reading around and I'm getting a little confused. I have a first generation I7-2700K, is that good enough?

4 cores, 8 threads with a clock speed of 3.5GHz and turbos to 3.9GHz?

Looks good to me for DAI ;)

How does your graphics card look?

i would take a look on the Intel Xeon E3 1231v3, 4cores/8  threads, 3,4-3,8GHz, no iGPU, for the price of the i5 4690K. forget about it if you want to overclock your CPU because the Xeon has a fixed multiplicator (but with a Z97 chipset MB you can boost it up to 3,8-4,2GHz).

If you can wait a few weeks, there will be some versions of the GTX 980 and 970 available with double VRAM (8GB).

i´ve also heard that Nvidia will release "Big Maxwell" aka GM200 this year, but more likely it will be available only for the professional GPUs in the beginning. but with the knowledge, that GM200 is going to be released soon, i wouldnt spend ~600$ for a graphic card based on the midrange-chip GM204.

I think my laptop may just clear the min hurdle but I'm not entirely sure.

Specs are:

Intel® Core™ i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB Dedicated Memory

1366 x 768 max resolution

Windows 7 64 bit

I guess my main concern is the processor seeing as it's only got 2 cores.

(Edit: Realised I forgot to put in system RAM but I've got 4GB so I'll be fine.)

I'm alright on the other specs, only questionmarks are GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 720 and CPU: intel core i7 3537u 2.0 ghz. I'm not looking for smooth, high-def, lag-free experience but should I have any problem actually running the game?

Dont know about you guys but I have waited for this game since its been only a rumour, so its been 3 years? 4? I havent waited bloody 3 years to play on "low" graphic quality, hell dont care how much it'll be hard for me, I am going to upgrade that fraphic card to be able to play on ultra, btw, the Recommended system rec, means it will be able to play on max right?

if DA:I accepts dualcores with HT you are fine.

i assume its a notebook? if yes, its a GT720M which is pretty weak, but should be good enough for low settings @ low resolutions (1080p isn´t possible with good framerates i think). CPU is a dualcore with HT and 2,9GHz under full load, so once again, if DA:I uses HT you wont have problems with this CPU.

current rig? and no, you wont be able to play DA:I at ultra setings with a GTX660.

btw for all people who don´t know their CPU´s specs: check this site.

depends on your definition of good framerates, for me 20 is good...

Thanks, that's all I need. Graphics can come someday when I upgrade, all I really care about is playing out the story. So if I understand you correctly and you're right I'm super-happy with that!!

youll be fine, my GPU is a lot worse and i can still run BF4 on low-medium 1080p

if i turn it down to 720p i get 60fps on ultimate....

Sooo... I only need to check again the amount of RAM that I have (and upgrade it if need be) and install Windows 7?

Won't take much work.

I understand why consoles is fine with 30fps because the controller turning speed is very slow. Play it with a mouse when you turn then you see stuttering. Playing on PC without at least 50+ fps (60fps ideal) it's a no go for me.

and for me, everything below 40fps is bad and below 30 it starts to be unplayable for me. i prefer stable 60 fps.

i would say yes. resolution?

for me anything below 50 is bad, im seriously considering getting EVGAS superclocked 980 ACX2. i have 780ti but its still a performance boost between 5-20 % based on game and as newer drives are released there will probably be a greater boost. What is making me hesitate is how soon nvidias next release is going to be. There's all kinds of speculation as to when thats going to be.
