I just called my builder to switch out the GTX 980 for a GTX 970 instead. Considering the rumors of Nvidia's GM200 / Big Maxwell or whatever thats coming out in the very near future (possibly to compete with the AMD R9 3XX series) that will actually give a huge performance increase, a $650 commitment on a gtx 980 seems to be too much for now. The GTX 970 simply hits the sweet spot of price/performance, with tremendous overclocking potential.

p.s. For those who are interested in a GTX 970, skip the EVGA versions. There are a lot of reports of poor design on the card leading to extra noise and heat. Go for the Gigabye or MSI versions instead.

Any idea why they made the health bars on PC UI that is on the right of the character's icon? Why not follow the same like the consoles where it's below? I believe that way it wont cover up so much space on the screen as i find it distractive. Thanks for your time.

I think they might actually be the same in latest builds, but I don't have a console to confirm. Far as I know, PC+Controller would essentially have the same UI as console.

It's in the same spot on consoles and PC UI, though.

Maybe you could try scaling up the resolution if you find it distracting? Open up the game space a little bit??? Just a thought.

Oh I was just responding to arch, I actually like that they are on the side as it makes it much easier to comprehend at a glance whose health bar it is.

I wish we can get some sort of benchmark so we can test how the game will work , before we actually get it  :)

You should be able to max it I think at that res with good fps

As long as it's supported properly i'm fine. After hawken (which don't support 1024x768) i'm kinda scared about possible resolution issues.

I just placed an order for 2 EVGA GTX 980's I hope they don't share that problem. <_<

The issues of the EVGA 970s were regarding the ACX 1.0 and 2.0 versions.

The 980s from EVGA with the ACX 2.0 coolers were of a different design compared to the 970 versions so you don't have to worry.

If you ordered the reference versions then definitely no issues.

I ordered the ACX 2.0's.... yaah.

You're probably right though, different card. [hoping]

There will always be some level of fan noise present unless the cooler is 100% passive. Different people just have varying tolerances.

The new EVGA 980 ACX 2.0 will have a 0% fan idle profile available.

The ACX 2.0 coolers between the 970 and 980 are definitely different with the 980 having a far superior contact point, heat sink, and heat pipe design compared to the 970 version (which does indeed have a rather underwhelming heat pipe spreader design).

Unless the noise level is ridiculous I think I'll be ok. And actually having good thermal cooling is preferred since i'll be overclocking as much as possible.

I have the ACX 2.0 970 delivered unto my grubby greedy hands now, so I'll have to give it a whirl this evening and see what the fuss might be about.

Jealous! The 980's are on backorder everywhere :(

Just hope I get it before Inquisition's launch.

Since you will have two 980s and they are not the reference cooler design, you may have some issue with temps if  your current case does not have really good airflow.

I'm sure you will quite pleased with it. IMO, the issues with the 970 ACX 2.0 was blown slightly out of proportion. Some of the criticism is valid but I took a lot of it with a grain of salt considering some user reports confused fan noise with coil whine and what not.

With 2x200mm case fans I wonder whether I'll be able to hear anything else. WHOOOOOSH

You've got noisy 200mm fans? You might want to check them out. Generally, since they spin at a lower RPM, the 200mm fans should be quieter than the 120mm ones.

I've got two in my HAF 922 and they hardly make a peep.

One of them's like a 160cfm, but I haven't actually built the PC yet (tonight!) so I was just assuming I'll be hearing a lot of airflow.

*sigh* The Asus Strix haven't come back in stock yet.

I might have to go with the next one that's not Zotec and EVGA that comes in stock. >_>

Really good designs when you can't get the Asus one right now are the MSI and Gigabyte versions. particularily the Gigabyte G1 editions with their new cooler are beast.

Yup, that triple fan looks beast. Will mostly definitely overclock like a dream. Pity my local shop in Canada doesn't even sell the Gigabyte model, so MSI will have to do. The gigabyte card is quite a bit longer tho, just so people with smaller casings be aware.

http://www.amazon.co...eywords=GTX 970 that one?

My case is a antec df-85 so hopefully it'll fit. It should I have a decent amount of space for my gtx 570 to stretch and fit...

the recommended cpu is vague. does Intel quad refer to i5/i7 or q series?

It just refers to the number of physical cores. So if you have a quad core anything Intel that meets the clock speed figures, then you should be good to go.

so an i5 4XXX with 4 cores and 1,8GHz and disabled turbo boost should be fast enough? hard to believe...

i´m also still waiting for my MSI GTX970, after already 2 weeks of waiting. but if i were you, i would wait for the Strix.
