so an i5 4XXX with 4 cores and 1,8GHz and disabled turbo boost should be fast enough? hard to believe...

I agree so please note the part in bold:

So if you have a quad core anything Intel that meets the clock speed figures, then you should be good to go.

...referring to the recommended clock speed figures in minimum and recommended specs.

my bad, i thought the recommended clock for Intel CPUs is 2,5GHz, but its 3GHz. but that still would mean that a, for example, i5 2500 locked at 2,5GHz is fast enough for highest settings despite its below the recommended specs, thats what i wanted to say

i´m also still waiting for my MSI GTX970, after already 2 weeks of waiting. but if i were you, i would wait for the Strix.

Alright. I was about to pull the trigger on the Gigabyte. But I'll wait for the strix. Even if I'll go mad :crying: (Bah Amazon isn't even taking preorders anymore :o )

So I just install it by taking my 570 out and putting the 970 right where it is? Any recommendation for card installation videos? XD I'm completely clueless.

Perhaps my phrasing in my original response to codenamesource's question was poor.

All I intended to convey is if the person has an Intel processor with at least 4 physical cores that also meets the 3.0GHz clock speed in the recommended specs (since the question specificed the recommended portion), then he should be fine to run DAI (CPU wise). However, I did not specify what settings it would be playable since there are other factors involved and the original question did not state anything about potential settings.

In your example of the i5 2500, the context is more granular since you talked about the highest settings. Based on the minimum and recommended specs, I would respond that it would be adequate to run DAI since it is above the minimum but the highest settings would be questionable since, as you stated, it is below the recommended specs.

As a side note, I thought the i5 2500s are clocked at 3.3GHz/3.7GHz turbo?

Rather important side note for the example. They are indeed: http://ark.intel.com/products/52210 (yes, that's the k-version, but stock speeds are the same)

At least you have the guts to push past your comfort zones :P

I think the only thing I'd do during a card upgrade is to revert the drivers to Windows default display driver before pulling out the old one. But yeah it is pretty much just what you said. Just don't forget to plug in the power connector like I did when I first got my hands on a high powered GPU.

So uninstall my current drivers? Kk. Power connector? XD my newbness hurts. I guess I'll see when my hands are on it.

Yeah I found one XD still kind of confused but eh. Practice makes perfect.

One of them's like a 160cfm, but I haven't actually built the PC yet (tonight!) so I was just assuming I'll be hearing a lot of airflow.

Nope, those larger fans won't create much noise. The biggest noise makers will be your CPU and GPU fans.

Since you got an EVGA card, make sure to register it with EVGA so you're all setup if you need to RMA it to them in the future. Also, download EVGA Precision. It's an overclocking tool put out by EVGA. I use it more for fan profiles than overclocking, so it might be something you want to check out just to have finer control over the fan.

Yep, although since both cards are NVIDIA, I'm not sure it's absolutely critical to uninstall the driver.

Oh and don't forget to earth yourself. Post back once your mission is a success for internet high fives!

Uninstalling the previous NVIDIA driver is recommended prior to installing the new drivers.

He means wear an antistatic wristband and ground yourself. You can do this by plugging in your power unit (KEEP IT TURNED OFF THOUGH) and touch the outside of the box. Or, buy an antistatic wristband and an antistatic mat and clip the wristband to the mat.

Or just.. make sure you don't have a static charge before touching your graphics card. You can damage it that way.

Yeah reading my tower manual and they just say to touch the screws on the back of the case before screwing around in the tower. I'll just do that. Barefoot. I have wood floors so whatever. Obviously I'll turn the system off first.

Hopefully I can at least get the card I want before the game releases. Seeing how fast it sells out though I'm not sure I'll manage that. >_>

I think people are a little bit overeager with upgrading their GPUs at the moment. I'd advice anyone whose GPU isn't downright horrible to at least wait for the 800 series.

Or if you can be even more patient, expect some noticeable price drops soon.

???

The 800 series got renamed to the 900 so the desktop and mobile gpu names would match up. (Which is why I'm bouncing waiting for the Asus 970 to come up to upgrade from my 570)

Unless you mean the AMD cards. *head tilts*

If you are referring to NVIDIA 800 desktop GPUs, then unfortunately those waiting will be waiting for an indefinite amount of time.  It was skipped over by NVIDIA and the successor to the 700 series is the 900 series - specifically the GTX 970 and 980 thus far.

AMD has already adjusted prices on their line of cards accordingly and there have even been substantial price reductions of the 780ti, 780, and 770 cards (they are EOL). Although, I suppose there will probably be some holiday sales coming up for further price reductions.

Didn't they just postpone the 800 series to November? For whatever reasons. At least that's what I remember reading right now... if not, excuse the derp moment lol.

Gonna go and search for that article.

EDIT: Found the artice and I must have been stoked when I read it, as it wasn't even addressing the 800 series, but the GTX 960 - which by now has been postponed to sometime at the beginning of 2015, I think. So yeah... derp moment. *g*

I for one will wait for TW3 system requirements before I think about updating anything at all. Right now my GTX 660 is still as faithful as ever.

Yep. I'm updating because my poor 570 is long in the tooth now. She's been faithful these last three years tho.

I like the 570, for such an old card it's still very decent and imo and could handle DAI on a High/Medium settings mix, especially if you manually overclock it a little bit.

That being said, I still understand why you'd like to upgrade and you at least know that making small GPU updates is a complete waste of money - if you do it, make it big. (;

True. But I think DAI's one of those games that deserves to be close to maxed out. (Plus I only play at 900p so hopefully that'll allow me to max it out). And yeah I can't afford small GPU updates XD I'm hoping this card lasts me as long as my 570 did if not longer.

I've ordered an Evga 980 Acx2 Super clocked but don't know when it'll be available.
Hopefully well before DAI release because my 465 will die just looking at inquisition.

No, he was just incorrect.

As for replacing the card, yea, they are right, you should def uninstall your drivers and then get naked before you put the new card in.

jk, but it's not too much.  Once you receive your new card:

 - go here and download the latest 900 series drivers, leave it on desktop

 - Uninstall Nvidia PhysX System software

 - Uninstall Nvidia Graphics Driver

 - reboot - let the basic gfx driver auto-install

 - shut down, unplug the psu

 - remove your 570

 - install the new beast (make sure its fit tight, is untouched, power connecters are snug, and has good airflow)

 - plug in psu, power up, install the new drivers you left on desktop

edit:  re: the PhysX and Drivers, I'm assuming you only install those 2 sections for your drivers.  Unless you have a 3D screen and use the hdmi audio out, and use the GeForce Experience as well.
