Hmmph...  I'm in the process of deciding if I need to mull over an upgrade.  The 970 certainly seems to be ideal.  My 760 is only a few months old, but like you posted a few pages back, if there's any game that deserves to be maxed out, it's this one.

So I'm also wondering if I get the 980 in November, will I be weeping in February?

Ahh... to mull, or not to mull...

True I'd probably waited but the 970 being 2x better than my current one was too good to ignore XD

Bah, coil whine eh? Oh well, I guess I'll wait and see how mine fares.

Yeah hoping I don't get it. I can deal with minor coil whine because my 570 usually sounds like a jet in games anyway but if its like that while idling *grimaces*

I really really dig the Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970, seems to overclock like a dream, and stay the coolest to boot. Damn you MemoryExpress, why don't you carry this model? WHY!?!?!

I've primarily had Gigabyte video cards and motherboards over the years and never had any issues.

Great product line, and always top notch cooling systems.

I'll wait for 980Ti myself since my R9 290 performs similar as 970 (tested one myself). But it's a good upgrade for anyone who has yet to upgrade for awhile.

290 will be more then enough for this game, when my  purchased 280x   from ebay  arrives, I've no intention of upgrading video  card again before Witcher 3 or R390s release date.

It amazes me how many people still play 1080p. I haven't played at that res in 5yrs. 2560x1400p is where the real fun is at! :) Soon 4k will be here with good monitors. Also, shocks me how many folks have really bad video cards...

I have two 1920x1200 monitors, and anything bigger literally will not fit on my desk. I'm not going back to a single monitor setup, and I don't have a residence permanent enough to allow for bracket installation.

They are just casual people who use their computers or just can't afford to upgrade to a better card. 2560x1400 is the sweet spot right now for games.

1080 is fine. I've been gaming at 1080 for years and I have absolutely no reason to move upwards. I'm sure I'd find it hard to go back if I were to go higher, but I have no plans to do so. Therefore, I am to repeat my opening. 1080 is fine.

i´m playing on 1080p and dont see a reason to change that. i prefer higher settings and AA over a higher resolution.

really? not everyone who has a PC is a hardcore gamer; most people just buy OEM-PCs which usually have powerful CPUs but weak GPUs.

If you are so shocked about this, how about you open an open fund to financially help undergeared gamers. Not everyone has lots of disposable income they use for the latest hardware.

I also advise you to never look into statistics like say the annual Steam polls on what the average gamer is running as PC. You may lose faith in the materialistic supremacy of PC gaming.

Pfft I'm still playing 900p. I'm thinking of moving up though. XD

Yeah basically. It'll run a scene at a fixed timestep (I think every frame will try process a 30Hz frame), then just go as fast as it can. So maybe a bit more like Street Fighter 4's benchmarker?

Cool, thanks.

Well the 970 is installed and working beautifully.

Save that damned coil whine.

Why does my luck suck so hard? :crying:

It's screechy but it's not at the lvl of my 570 with it's fans going crazy so i'll live. (too damn lazy to RMA unless it was hurting my eardrums which it isn't).

On the upside I can now play Skyrim with my texture mods and there's not a severe frame rate drop if I turn too fast! IMPROVEMENT.

Are you sure it is coil whine? Many confuse fan noise and coil whine.

If it is coil whine, you could try increasing the voltage to the card in order to change the frequency range of the transistors of the card's VRM. That may remove the coil whine.

Or sometimes after some use the frequency range the transistors operate at fluctuate on their own and the coil whine goes away by itself.

Is there a video out there somewhere showing what this sound is? I've got my EVGA970 rig all up and running but haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet (much DAI hours). I'd be curious what to hear for. Not under strain (like just running windows and browser), I don't hear anything out of the ordinary, it's a surprisingly quiet setup.

Yeah Rifu got me. Mine is pretty slight and my fans are usually fairly loud so I can barely hear it. But it's definitely there for me :(

Ah, no (well maybe, I haven't tried under load yet), but I remember hearing it in the past and never knew what the source was.

Here is a good explanation of the cause of coil whine and a possible fix for it (that I talked about in my post to Ryzaki).
