On low my gpu is able to manage constant 60fps, but I don't know about 720m

If I were you I would wait a little bit. Do you have any friends who bought the game to PC? You could borrow their copy to test the performance.

The game releases here on the 21st so I'm gonna have a couple of days to gather info and stuff. And sadly, no, I don't know any people irl who are into DA :( So I have only the internet to rely on.

I was able to play B4 on medium no problem and Shadow of Mordor runs smoothly so I'm crossing all my fingers ahaha. I have no problem playing on low & with low fps, I just need it to run. I'll be getting a new rig hopefully at the beginning of next year so I'll have only my laptop to tide me over until then.

Oh and btw how much ram do you have? I have 6 which was pretty much the only part I was confident in having no problems with, ahaha.

4gbs DDR3L

The only problem occurred so far is the game is crashing on the title screen if I alt tab or leave it idle for too long

But playing the game itself no problems.

Due to the number of people having issues with the duel core/tri-core issue, would a moderator please clarify the poorly worded "quad core" requirement.

* (The easiest question)  Instead of stating that the game requires a quad core processor, did you actually mean that it requires a quad thread system?

If the above answer is yes, everyone... do the following to see if your system is compatible:

1. Windows 7: Right click the Task Bar (has the start menu on one end, clock on the other, is where your windows go when you minimize them) and click the "Performance" tab.  Under "CPU Usage History", count the number of small squares that are in the top of the window.  If you have 2, you have 2 threads available, 3 = 3, .... 4 seemingly is required for the game.

2. Windows 8  (Note: This information was pulled from a Windows 2012 server and not Windows 8.  However, it should be accurate.): Go to your Desktop, right click the Task Bar, select Task Manager, click the Performance tab.  Your number of available "threads" is listed under "Logical processors".  It should be 4+.

Admin/moderators: If the answer to my question is "No", please clarify your "quad core processor" requirement.  Thank you.

Has anyone tried DAI with an i3?

This is the reason I want an 'official' and 'technical' answer to my quad core question, as I have 2 customers (for whom I built their desktop pc's) that are successfully playing the game with Intel i3 dual core/hyperthreaded cpu's.  (Thus, the issue is not that the game requires a quad core cpu, nor is it that the game requires 4 physical cores.  The only answer, with my available information... and based upon the moderator's statements... is that the game requires 4 available "threads" to function.)

In the corporate environment, some programs are written to require quad simultaneous threading for functionality.  Was DA:I written this way?

Good to know that people are able to play with a dual core CPU. Thanks.

Anyone have any luck with anything resembling a GTX 260M and i7-720QM (Quad core, 1.6GHz, 2.8GHz if max turbo-ed)? I know the best I can hope for is absolute-minimum territory, but I've hoping to be able to hold out on getting a new laptop until Windows 10 comes out.

The game works for me.

I have got a dual core, but with 4 threads. My CPU: Intel Core i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz

I believe I have the weakest possible CPU for this game. It's not perfect, but it's working.

(Thank the Maker...)  ;)

Hi guys

I have Pentium G3220... i know... game couldn't start on 2-core processor.

You know the case with CoD AW and 2-cores? (Fix and Pentium G3258 have 60 frames)

You know the case with Far Cry 4? (On i7 without HT and 2 cores... working in 60 frames)

Anybody could tested that game: Open game, and when game are running closed 2 cores?

Sorry for my English ;)

As far as we know, the game requires four simultanous threads to work properly. That can be covered by having four or more physical cores, or two physical cores with hyperthreading adding up to four threads in total. Only two physical cores without hyperthreading will not be sufficient.

I said that somebody who have the game and i5 checked this situation:

Play game...

Stopped 2 cores on i5...

And return to game...

You'l get it running though you might wanna lower all enviroment setting as well as particles. I have the same config except for 8gb ram and game runs pretty good.

Due to the issues that another client, who had an old AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE (3 physical, no virtual, cores... for 3 total threads) had..

And following an upgrade to a Haswell Refresh Intel i3 (2 cores, hyperthreading, 4 threads)...

I can now confirm that I have 3 clients running DA:I with Intel i3 dual core/hyperthreaded pcs (4 threads).  [For the more technical people out there, two are running i3 3220 cpus on Z77 chipset boards & the most recent client now has an i3 4160 on a Z97 chipset board.]

Easy answer, customer requirements and cost.

One of the i3 3220 people had a requirement of a certain number of specific ports on their boards.  (I don't remember the specifics now.)  More importantly was cost at the time.  (The Z77 boards in their computers didn't cost much more than the H boards, ... and I believe had an extra year of manufacturer warranty.)

Most recently, the i3 4160 customer was all about finding a good deal with a good warranty.  (It was $60 USD for a micro-ATX H97, or $80 after Mail-in-rebate for the Z97 full ATX board.  $20 was worth the potential of future Crossfire, an extra year warranty, extra SATA ports, etc.)

--------

In the end, though, I agree with you.  Between these builds, another person requested a non-K i5 build.  They got a H chipset board... again due to cost and warranty at the time.

For those asking dual core - one of the min-specish dual core workstations I have does indeed run the game, and not too terribly. I haven't played all that far though, and I'm not sure if we'd officially support it, so your mileage may vary.

It's a Xeon 5150 2.66GHz, with an 8800GTX (512mb), 4GB RAM.

Are you still able to run the game in its final form on this workstation? Can you tell us why it might not be working now on two-threaded dual cores, but it worked for you a month or so ago on a two-threaded dual core? Thanks.

To clarify a statement made in this thread:
The game will NOT run on a dual core machine. The machine referenced above is actually 2 CPUs each with 2 cores (thus Quad core)

A dual core machine will not run the game.

Just checking in with a view to demystifying some of the confusion, if any, surrounding the requirements as it pertains to "older" PC (laptop) systems per se, there being comments and suggestions, etc. that may (or may not) dissuade players wanting to play this game but afraid to buy same at this time due to said comments suggesting their older systems do not meet the requirements --meaning old in terms of gaming that is, but not by standards of today's so-called work stations -- namely, Intel I5, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit OS, Nvidia GeForce 300 series (driver 340.52 or better, etc) which especially in terms of lap tops was cutting edge per se in terms of entertainment systems some 5 years ago, but with advancements/improvements naturally come technical obsolescence as we all know, but no worries: with the recent patch out (and more en route), DAI is --with the patch--VERY playable on low settings, so go right ahead and enjoy the game.

Yes, you CAN play it, so-called "old" systems are just fine! IAs well they should be, after all, handles Crysis, etc.). Of course, if want the brilliant graphics which I don't for a moment deny await along with faster frame rates, etc. with a "modern" gaming computer, then get a better comp but meantime KNOW it's playable just fine on older systems, as described/discussed above. Myself, in addition to my above noted mobile station (lap top), I've a desk top PC which I do NOT use for gaming--rather, it's a pro photo and video editing machine, IPS monitor, SSD, etc., (don't mix business with pleasure as they say, but I have come to love wireless mobility as of late, changing my opinion on the matter, such that I've a new ASUS ROG laptop, I7, GeForce 900 series, 32GB RAM, 2T memory, SSD, etc. on the way, and will re-play DAI on this beast, hooking up the IPS for photo/video editing as required (for photo/video which is rather mandatory, gamers don't need it or care generally, anymore than they need SSD, etc., but I digress),  but same time enjoy the mobility and the game as it is MEANT to be. Meantime, on the "old" laptop, it's thanks to the patch playable just fine, dare I repeat! (And thanks: without which patch, might add, having nothing to do with my system but all systems regardless of course, I was, sadly, almost ready to return the game as it was to put it politely unplayable due to bugs, but now that the first round(s) of patches have came out and fixed up various problems as everyone here likely already knows, not only able to actually get in game without constant crashes/freezing after a short play through (matter of hours, sometimes more than others before the system became frozen/unstable, necessitating a task manager shut down of the game and complete re-boot/restart (memory leakage, perhaps?), but ENJOYABLE. Would expect nothing less from Bioware, tactical system quite reminiscent of Baldur's in a way, and an entertaining game--thanks. Can't wait to check it out on my new system when it arrives, taking advantage thus of the new / modern tech and then some. Keep up the good work, and thanks again.

No false hope just awesome help for a really Super Tech Stupid person like me. :)

Do you think it's worth it to bring my laptop in and upgrade my graphics card or just get a new laptop? If it's get a new laptop any recommendations that won't break the bank? LOL I put my specs below.  Thanks again for being so helpful!!

HP Pavilion Laptop

Windows 8.1

Processor AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon HD Graphics (AMD Radeon HD 8610G)

2.10 GHz

RAM 6.00 GB

64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor

OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

CPU: AMD A10-5745M

System RAM: 8 GB

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 8610G

Graphics Memory: 768mb(up to 3 gig)

Hard Drive: 750 gig 5400 RPM

DirectX 11.1

DAI runs on laptop on mostly low settings 1336x768 with ambient occlusion on OFF, Antialiasing OFF, Post process Antialiasing on low, texture detail on medium/low, Tesselation turned OFF, all other settings should be low.  I would recommend keeping texture detail on low. Even though the game ran okay on medium texture settings, some areas like Redcliffe and Haven lag a bit too much on medium. I turned the mesh to high. I had to get the scars/freckles back.

*Update* The game running well at 1366x768 with above settings. Using resolution scale to downsample from default resolution actually improved performance. Set it at 85. Yes, it blurs the text a bit but not enough to matter.
