Specializations are no longer free like they were in DA2. In DA Fan's October 6th news update he says "There is a quest to get to the person who will teach your Inquisitor their chosen specialization." This means I may have to side with the Templar Order to unlock the Templar specialization.

Sorry mages. I want to help you guys out but if siding with the Templars is the only way for me to unlock the Templar specialization then the rebellion is officially over. May the maker have mercy.

No you don't have to side with Templars, I highly doubt it. Having Templar abilities =/= becoming a member of Templar order. Heck Cassandra might be the one teaching us.

I hope these quests all become available at around the same time.

I'm glad it's quest based rather than "You're level 7!".  Hopefully it is more involved than the 'quests' to get specializations in DA:O, which were either 'get so and so to like you' or a side effect of other quests.

Cassandra will not be teaching the Inquisitor anything. No companion him/herself is.

I wonder if we'll be learning the Seeker version or the Templar taught method.

There is a rumor that we will not learn them from companions but the fact that all revealed companions have the same specs the inquisitor can have says otherwise.

A dev's statement is not a rumor.

As if devs never contradicted each other. So we know the following:

Cassandra: Templar
Varric: Artificer
Solas: Rift mage

I'm going to go ahead and speculate these:

Black wall: Champion
Serra: Assassin
Dorian: Necromancer
Iron Bull: Reaver
Cole: Tempest
Vivienne: Knight Enchanter

They all fit perfectly. Maybe they don't personally teach us, but they can easily have something to do with the quest and process of learning them.

Are there contradictory developer statements on this matter?  If not, then the rest of your post is just meaningless noise.

That was before my Templar specialization was in jeopardy. For the sake of +magic resistance and Holy Smite these mages are going down!

The latter part of your statement could be correct.  Our companions don't actually teach us, but maybe they know who can or who to contact about such things.  Perhaps the Inquisitor will be looking for trainers to recruit into the Inquisition to train your forces in general, and a benefit of that is that the Inquisitor can choose a specialization as well.

There's a rumor that this game is made by BioWare, but it fits perfectly with a game made by Obsidian, notice the bugs...

Since no one has come forward with a counter claim, I'll go ahead and believe that companions don't teach specializations themselves, even if they are involved with the quest.

I will now be forced to vortex you into the Fade, with my Rift Mage. Nothing personal, only business.

I think Cole makes more sense as having the Assassin Spec, and Sera having the Tempest spec

In all Fairness, if companions won't teach specs, What about Advisors, or as Quest rewards where you become a "Champion". i liked that as a quest reward... Was good reward.

Necromancer training montage would be hilarious. Inspiring and motivational music playing while two guys in a graveyard practice raising undead minions.

Inquisitor: Augh!

Trainer: That's it! keep it up!

Inquisitor: Augh!!! *dead body rises from grave*

Zombie: Brains!

Shouts of triumph and manly chest bumps ensue.

Well I'm guessing is that once we reach a certain level we will be given a Specialization quest that will have use take on a quest to obtain our specialization and each one specialization quest is different from each other.

Based on what's known about the characters, I'd flip Sera and Cole. Cole's description practically screams Assassin.

"He is a ghost in the shadows, walking unnoticed through crowds. He can slit an enemy's throat before they even realize he's there, and slip away, never to be seen again."
