If you noticed the recent system requirements news, only Windows 7 and 8 are supported. No Windows Vista or XP. I wonder if this was because of time constraints? I could buy it on my PS 3, currently I have that and an ok PC to play DA: I in but it only has Windows Vista. I'm not upgrading for just one game though, got more important things to worry about.

What do you guys think about the news? I totally assumed it was going to be Windows Vista compatible :(.

Can you confirm that it definitely won't work on Vista.  It would have been handy to know this some time back. Wasn't expecting that.  My current computer meets all other requirements.   Unhappy & disappointed :-(

Recommended and minimum requirements are on this page, and no, Vista is not supported:

There is no such confirmation. They're simply not testing it on Vista. Given that Vista has DirectX 11 (I think?), it might very well run on Vista.

Edit: Can anyone think of a specific reason why it wouldn't run on Vista?

Vista is not being tested. It's not surprising since only 2% of Steam users are running Vista.

My computer has DirectX11 and Geforce GTX 660 ... and in other respects its fine ... the computer is old but works fine e.g. ESO high settings.  Its only the Vista thing :-(    I'm going to find it hard to justfiy buying a new computer.

Gah, you run with Vista?  Ugh, nothing but problem after problem with my gaming programs and Vista.  Anyhow, with the DA:I specs, I wasn't too surprised to see that.  I think the era of having modern games run on Vista are at an end.  Microsoft is no longer updating the OS, and Win 7 is currently more used.

@Nas You won't have to buy a new computer just for Windows 7 64.  It runs about $95 brand new for the OS.

Well it's also a question of how operating systems do processes management. Do all windows systems handle program execution the same way? Does it need to be recompiled with windows vista? It might be a software compatibility issue due to the different environments too? Different possibilities.

who says that you need to buy a new pc?!? just buy win7 or win8/8.1 (i would go with win7) and replace your vista with it, and everything is alright.

but imo it´s a bit stupid that the game only runs on win7 or higher (DX11), but still with 7 year old DX10 graphic cards.

You could try running it on Vista. As I said, it might very well work.

Also, why would you need to buy a new computer? Why not simply buy a new operating system?

Vista is still valid, so I don't see why not. I upgraded to 7 after XP expired, myself.

If people are still using Vista why not upgrade to Windows 8... At least Windows 8 is new and hip*...lol.

Now the question is are those $95 better spent on an xbox one or ps 4? hmmm. :) , and I am being sincere.

Vista is possible the worst SO ever... idk why you won't upgrade to 7, it works better (except for internet issues)

We should never dismiss the usefulness of Vista. For one day when the machine rises to destory humanity, Vista would be our best weapon.

It'll work on any operating system if you tweak it correctly. Even things that normally don't work on XP work if you get 3rd Party DX11.

How many do you think actually know how to dot this? Most people don't even know how to do a proper virus/malware scan on their computers.

I noticed that too, but I don't think Microsoft even supports Vista or XP anymore, and they just announced Win10.

I'd think people with Vista and XP may have computers that in general wouldn't work that well with Dragon Age Inquisition. If I'm remembering my old XP computer correctly, 26 GB of storage would have eaten all the rest of my space and I would have had delete a lot of stuff. And did they even have affordable quad cores back then that worked with XP? Did XP or Vista even work with 4gb of RAM? Was that even affordable?

I think they would literally have to downgrade the game worse than the PS4 and Xbox One versions to get it to work on XP and Vista.

Here are some free, legal solutions for people who do not have the right OS:

1. If you are a student at an approved educational institution, you may be able to obtain a free copy of Win 7 or Win 8 through https://www.dreamspark.com/

2. If you are only going to play DAI for less than 30 days, you can download a Win 7 ISO, install it without a key and it will work for 30 days.

3. No idea if this one works for home owners but you can get a 90 day trial of many versions of Windows here.
