If I can't play it on windows 3.1 I will be very very upset and mad (sarcasm)

Xp has had it's day, it's long in the tooth and not supported anymore and doesn't do 64 bit that well. Windows 7 is a great operating system (even 8 if you ignore the charms menu is good).

Windows NT forever!

I mean, I'm peeved about MS-DOS, but I get how this hole "graphic interface" thing is important nowadays, but not supporting NT is the line in the sand.

U assume some level of technical expertise - that I don't have :-(

You just need to upgrade your OS. It's as easy as inserting DVD and answering a few simple questions while letting setup do the work. Basically, if you can read, you can install/update OS.

Upgrading my OS with me having that little input would terrify me.

If you noticed the recent system requirements news, only Windows 7 and 8 are supported. No Windows Vista or XP. I wonder if this was because of time constraints?

I suspect this is because the game appears to be coded for 64-bit systems only (likely to break the limit of memory available to the application) and with the older versions of Windows the 64-bit support tends to be a bit of a mess. That said maybe you'll be actually able to run it with 64-bit Vista and it just isn't officially supported/tested.

I have the latest DOS 6.  This is a text-based game, right?

A lot of big game makers are in partnership with Microsoft and thus will tend to make or at least only advertise their games as being suitable with the latest OS. XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and thus it's unlikely any major company will produce a game advertised as working for XP anymore.

Win 7 is basically bug fixed Vista in the same way 98 was bug fixed 95, it's the same OS underneath so for the person with Vista I would say try it, it may well work for you, but borrow a friends copy and just see if will install before you buy your own in case it doesn't work

And it's not only windows 7 but more importantly windows 7 64 bit.  You also have windows 7 32 bit, so it's always good to look if you have the right bit version.

win Vista only supports DX10.

Wrong.

Vista, with the "Platform Update" and all Service Packs supports DX11.   The Platform update is critical for current Vista users (I still was one until earlier this year!).  After doing it, Vista is under the hood very similar to 7.  Run a DXdiag on a fully updated Vista machine and compare it to the out from a Win 7 machine.  Play close attention to the official output for the Windows Version parameter.  Surprised a lot of people back then......

So, Vista though Vista will not be supported (not supporting is something Bioware seems to do well these days) there's a good chance it will work.  But if it doesn't you won't get to complain about it.

I was a bit upset that Vista isn't supported as well (as I'm still using it also), but I've got DX11 on my machine, and it meets all the other requirements.  I'll wait until I try it out to see if I need to upgrade my OS, as that's the only requirement I don't meet.  I don't think it's really anything to worry about too much just yet, as others have said, it's just not officially supported.

If people are still using Vista why not upgrade to Windows 8... At least Windows 8 is new and hip*...lol.

WIndows 8 is a travesty in UI that I will never touch.

What are the odds of getting a 32bit patch? BF4 got one, so it's possible. Will Bioware bother, though?

well if you get 8.1 and totally ignore the tiles like I do, then it is very similar to 7, just with an annoying way to get to the control panel.

I use 7 on my work laptop and 8.1 on my PC so its easy for me to spot the main differences between the two.

Annoying how though? The only difference between 7 and 8.1 is that in 8.1 you right click on the "starter" button before you can left click on control panel link instead of left clicking in 7 on the starter button. That is the only difference with the control panel. The only annoying thing is shutting down in 8.1 which takes more steps if you run in normal windows mode.

Anyway Windows 8 is alot like 7 now with the tiles no longer being the default so upgrading to 8.1 is no longer a travesty as it was at release. I do believe Microsoft is unwilling to understand their audience. Seriously, why would a business even want to use tiles let alone gamers? It never made any sense.

Annoying how though?.

I find the pop out bar on the side, annoying. Not sure what it is official called but you need to push your mouse over to the edge of the screen & then a bar pops out with control panel, search function etc.

It's really only mildly annoying and I've gotten used to it at this stage.

I got around that with a third party program. But before that it was annoying having to select the right charm.

You could create a shutdown batch file

I could buy it on my PS 3, currently I have that and an ok PC to play DA: I in but it only has Windows Vista. I'm not upgrading for just one game though, got more important things to worry about.

What do you guys think about the news? I totally assumed it was going to be Windows Vista compatible :(.

XP simply isn't supported anymore. At all. Vista is questionable but perfectly logical. The main Windows OS in use is 7 and the most current is 8/.1.

Buy a used Windows 7 64-bit key from Ebay. They are extremely cheap, maybe like 10 or 15 Dollars/Euros, you can download the .iso from Microsoft. Windows 7 is light years better than Vista too.

Anyway, DA:I will probably work with Vista anyway. Try it out.

Probably, but it's not being tested and won't be supported
