As the title says, I am wondering what people thing as a whole of the changes from previous games. I know I personally went though a lot of different emotions when I found out some things. First I tried to be optimistic and tried to understand that BW was trying to make the best game they possible could, even though I had my doubts on how it all worked. Then more and more changes came and I started to get nervous. And then "it" happened. I felt like it was the last straw; that this game was not going to be the same game I spent hours upon hours playing. I said some pretty angry things and I am still raw about some of the changes, but I think this is a game that is not the same, but one I will enjoy nonetheless. My hope is that 4+ years has been time well spent and this game will be just as epic as the original.

So what are your thoughts? Are you disappointed? Are you upset? Are you thrilled? Is it something you look forward to? Is it a mixed bag for you? What changes do you like and which don't you like? Do you like all of them? Do you like none of them? Do you have just a tiny comment to make or a 1000+ word post to make? I would love to hear YOUR opinion.

The purpose of this thread, though it may be premature, is to give BW something to work with so that they can see what people like and what they dislike about some of these changes. I don't know if there will be many of you who choose to post in this topic but it is my way of trying to make things right.

Thanks for reading... and posting.

Way too simplified, and the combat doesn't seem too well thought out.

The rest looks great.

Everything. I was hoping others would give specifics because I am ill equipped to do so. Part of this is also a learning tool for people who don't know all that was changed. I don't know if it will get that far, but I hope knowledge will be shared here as well.

I like it so far.

->Sweet necromancer class.

->Textures are amazing.

->Hair could use work.

->The idea of specializations adding a layer of reactivity.

->Customizable stronghold with banners.

->Return of playable races.

->Restricting me will give me the incentive to think more carefully about my builds

->I like the armor and crafting system

Truthfully I wasn't after a remake of DA:O. If I wanted to play DA:O I always can as it's sitting on my PC as I type. I was after a Cutting Edge game that was true to the DA world.

I wanted the world to be larger than any they have given me before. Check

I wanted it to be visually stunning. Check

I wanted an engaging story. Will wait and see.

I wanted the ability to plan out a fight with some kind of tactical element. Check, will have to see for myself how well it plays.

I wanted the ability to chose where I stand in any of the major sub-quests. They have said this is possible, want to see it for myself.

I wanted to be able to customise my characters as much as possible. Mostly check, don't like the fact that we can't choose stats.

I wanted nothing to do with the Chantry. This is the one that could still stop me from buying the game. I know they have said we can roleplay against the Herald fiasco but if that just head cannon and still walk around with everybody calling us HoA than that's not good enough for me.

Ability tree and combat changes (LAS, drastic reduction in active abilities, lack of choice in stat allocation) are a major major disappointment, going against the supposed mantra for the game of offering more customisation/choice and are a large reduction in role playing mechanics. Everything else appears to be an improvement but given combat is the major part of the game the ability and combat changes loom large for me.

I really don't have any issues with what I've seen other than the lack of healing and auto healing regen.

With maps so large and vast for one area I really don't want to stop at a camp or backtrack every five minutes after an intense battle. With specializations like Spirit Healer from past games the direction in the healing regard seems strange to me. I mean why not just add both potions and healing spells if the game is as hard as they make it out to be. I guess I'll just have to play and get a feel for it before I judge it too hard I suppose. Better to keep an open mind.

Oh, and I guess I would have preferred more specialization classes to return like Ranger, Shapeshifter, Bard, Keeper, and Duelist. More options never hurt imo. It'd be cool to play as a Bard since we'll be seeing Orlais and stuff, I love the concept of The Game.

I think Bioware is haunted by the ghost of Dragon Age: Origins and they're doing everything in their power to make us forget about that game...

..as the great Jalen Rose frequently says...

NOT GON' BE ABLE TO DO IT

Maybe they'll build a new core of fans who like action-RPGs that are built around a controller. But Dragon Age was built on the backs of those of us who like tactical RPGs that are built around a keyboard/mouse.

I feel like I'm in a bad marriage...and Dragon Age is no longer the woman I fell in love with all those years ago. I'm not big on divorce, so I'll try to work-it-out -- get some counseling, give it some time. But life is too short to be unhappy -- and there are other games out there that won't take me for granted.

I can summarize my impressions like this:

(1) All in all the changes in gameplay appear to be a great improvement over both of the predecessors. I expect this to turn out very good.

The things I do not like are:

*Moving some aspects of character customization to gear. Gear is not part of a character, and thus meaningless for defining them.

*Some combat animations are still over-the-top to the point of feeling like a parody.

*The inability to unequip weapons is a great immersion-breaker. Gear - as I said - is NOT part of a character.

Those I especially appreciate are:

*Return of the top-down view in the PC version. Such a relief.

*Revamped combat encounter design. All the examples I've seen so far are good.

*More weighted weapon animations. May seem a little thing, but IMO it's important for combat to feel real.

*More and more meaningful exploration. Simply great!

The idea behind the controversial "healing nerf" I find very appealing. There's some remaining skepticism about whether it'll work for me, but the new defensive abilities play right into my playstyle preference. Looking forward to the challenge "Get through a major quest without taking any damage".

(2) The game looks fantastic. I don't know how often I had to pick up my jaw from the floor. Some images actually moved me to tears. No game did that before. The CC needs an extra mention. At times I'm thinking I'm never going to play this game because I'll spend all my time with the CC.

(3) Story. This is the area with the biggest question marks. Most important is how they've handled this Herald of Andraste thing and how consequently I can distance my character ideologically from the Chantry and Andrasteanism in general. I can't stress enough how critical this is. At this moment and assuming that the things that appear great from here actually turn out to be great on my screen, this story aspect is about the only thing that can impact my enjoyment of the game to the point that the whole experience is tainted.

The things they changed significantly, for the most part, I dislike:

I absolutely despise the eight ability restriction. It completely incenses me and makes absolutely no sense to me. Was it just added for similarity between console and PC? Because that's a terrible reason to do anything.

The severely limited healing is completely inexplicable as well. I don't play games for a challenge. Especially not Dragon Age. I play for the story, and if I can't get to it because I'm constantly stressing over whether I have enough healing potions to fight some wolves, I'm not going to enjoy my time. If I have to keep running back to camp, or reloading saves because I lost too much health in a fight, I'm not going to enjoy my time. So I'm just hoping beyond hope there is a difficulty setting that allows me to turn on health regen out of combat.

And the - as other people call it - "flashiness" of combat bothers me. Why does the warrior's taunt have a red light effect? Why does that one warrior attack-chain ability also have a red light effect? Why does the rogue split-arrow-thing have a blue light effect? Why does explosive arrow have a purple light effect? Why does the rogue's backstab ability have a purple light trail? Why can't barrier just be a little bubble like in DA2? Now, I like colour, but come on. It's absurd, and incredibly busy, to the point where I'm not even sure how anyone playing the game can follow what's actually happening to their characters through the light show. I mean, maybe it's different and somehow incredibly satisfying once playing the game, but for now...I'm not pleased.

I also don't like exploration in games, and I'm incredibly worried that in order to accrue a decent amount of power for the Inquisition I'm going to have to do a lot of it.

And I hate the changes they made to pause-and-play. At this point, I've become convinced that the game can't be paused in over-the-shoulder mode, which is how I tend to play so I'm incredibly displeased about that. And even in tactical mode, you can't just freely toggle pause. You have to hold down a button to advance time, or exit it all together. I can't even comprehend these changes. Nothing about tactical mode or pause-and-play was broken in Origins, so why try to fix it?

And that's all I needed to rant about right now. So I guess, looking back, my only major gripes are with the changes to combat. But given that combat comprises a significant portion of this game, I'd prefer it to either be really good or super easy to quickly get through and move on.

My impressions are mostly positive though I am concerned about the following:

No Ability Score Allocation (Gives the impression of the pc being pigeonholed into a set class role)

Weapons still restricted by class (This sucked in DA2, why is it being carried forward here?)

Handling of Race-Gated Romances (Dropped due to there only being 2 R-G love interests)

Other than the above, I'm still fairly hyped for this game though I'm keeping my expectations within reasonable limits.

I think Bioware's more like still being haunted by the ghost of Baldur's Gate series and lol at the marriage analogy. Ea loves a customer like you. You know what they say, "when he/she keeps crawling back to you after you had constantly insulted and abused him/her, you know you've got a keeper".

Strange that they made The World of Thedas, then. A book about the lore of Dragon Age. It included no gameplay... Writers are also hired to write Lore for games (Lorewriters) They do so without having anything to do with gameplay...So yeah. Lore is not gameplay.

Well, to be honest, I'm not disappoint at all. From what I've seen so far in BSN and other forums, I could say my standard for judging game is pretty low though (or I just have low expectation despite of getting so excited about it).

I appreciate changes, you know, it's never really good if the franchise game does not change its gameplay aspects as the series goes on. If the gameplay stays the same, even though character and story are different, the game will feel tedious and boring (for me, at least).

I'll say BRING IT ON! I'm ready to experience new lore, new characters, and new gameplay systems.

I've liked every game BioWare has made that i've played

and their games have changed a lot since I first played BG back in 1999

so I'm not really worried about any of the changes
