I could be the reincarnation of Buddha, trying get you to release your expectations of the material world and achieve enlightenment. We're all working off assumptions here. ;-) Feel free to provide credentials though.

If you ARE an expert programmer, feel free to rub my nose in it by

I think Buddha actually achieved enlightenment and avoided further reincarnations for all eternity, if I remember correctly.

I am not an expert programmer. Just for the record.

I know. But this one isn't even technical. Its just removing a white dot on the map. Its not even a part of the map itself, its "hovering" above it.

I'm pretty sure it's still included under the umbrella of "any feature" that David sets up for the range of toggles covered. Your assumption of the ease with which this can be implemented is fine, but you might consider for a moment the possibility you are underestimating its difficulty. Again, my own assumption is that it would be a pain in the butt and require a bunch of testing, and that it therefore isn't worth it.

Really this is the new standard operating procedure for games it seems. People had complaints about the MAKO, logical reaction? make improvements. Bioware's reaction? remove it entirely and don't bother. People had issues with the Mineral Scanning. logical reaction? make improvements. Bioware's reaction? -basically- remove it entirely and don't bother. Healing Spells, no one really complained about it, Bioware claims it was an issue. Logical reaction? rework Healing to be better. Biowares reaction? pretty much remove Healing entirely and don't bother.

Add less forced spoonfeeding to the game, and put some resources into a toggle or two then.

Depends on the sect you are in.There's a list of people who are claimed to be reincarnations.

Duly noted.

And in a few years we will be left with Pong.

And at this point we're back to just straight up disagreeing, so I'll leave it here. :)

What's the exact reason they took away the healing from the game? I think It's my choice, if I want to use healing or not. The people who don't like it, shall play without.

As I understand in DA:I it's always: 1.raise the armor of your warriors + give them shields  2. use potion after potion. There are almost only temporary buffs now and for me, that's less fun then to manage an healer in your group.

Say what you want, Pong is actually fun...and oddly hard.

I don't even know how this current line of debate started. How does this all relate to Patrick Weekes' post about the healing system, which, btw, I fould extremely useful and would rather see discussed than the side issues we've been distracted by.

@Bfler:

The stated reason for non-regenerating health, taking regular healing spells out of the game and limiting the number of potions is that the potentially unlimited hitpoints people were carrying about made it necessary for every fight to threaten you with a party wipe if it was to be interesting at all. Fights were also much harder to balance. I find this convincing. Now you can have, say, fights with low-level bandits be realistically easy for your epic hero and still mean something. It goes hand in hand with the unleveled world. I say it's an improvement, even though it might need some more balancing.

Also, Medhia Nox posted a list of ten ways to recover health. Healing isn't restricted as much as some people believe.

They say it limited their development because they had to assume the Party has infinite HP so enemies had to deal massive amounts to damage to compensate.

officially i don't believe one has been given. so your guess is as good as anyones.

that was one guy and not a number guy. and it is to easy to punch a hole in that line of reason.

Honestly to me the answer was really simple. Leave the Healing spells in, add a longer Cooldown timer and increase it's Magic cost, and give it a Cast Time. Leave the Barrier spells as faster, cheaper alternatives.

Missed the part where the other fellow called people stupid, did you?

1. I didn't call you stupid, I said the complaining was stupid. Which it is. Because it's already in the game for every available class.

2. Who cares what label is on it? You get to heal, which is really the only thing that matters.

I know there might just be something oh so satisfying about watching your mana pool go down and your health go up. Kind of like reverse blood magic; the thought even tickles me pink, but really it's kind of ridiculous to claim that because it isn't just a starter spell and linked only to the mage class that it isn't healing. It obviously is.

Markers ON maps and on the compass - a feature that defeats the exploration aspect of the game. A feature Bioware has said to be one of the drawpoints in this game.

It defeats the exploration aspect? My god. Quick, someone, tell Bethesda!

As a dedicated healer on MMOs, and a mage player that always uses a bit of healing magic along with the main magic tree (I liked blood magic and elemental) on dragon age games, this change is a bummer.

And I still don't see how a group without mages can overcome big battles, now we'll depend on barriers instead of healing magic. Fortunately for me, unlike origins where I hated Wynne, and DA II where I was annoyed by Anders, I like the 3 mages (specially Dorian) on inquisition, so I'll have always a barrier available to me. But the mageless groups will need to hoard tons of health potions if they want to succeed.

They did. Someone removed the compass that tells you exactly where everything is within days. Thanks, modders.

The normal difficulty was balanced assuming a balanced party with one of each class. That was never in question.

Strange that they did it in days, no? Since this toggle is, according to people in here, extremely challenging to do.
