Hey everyone,

I am currently debating about pre-ordering dragon age Inquisition. That said I want to mod this game with proper mod tools. I want to make worlds for Dragon Age Inquisition. But i do not want to work at BioWare or EA.

Here are the benefits that I see for Bioware and EA -

- A more modular development process.

- Increasing Long term sales

- Bringing in new talent.

That said - Will there be mod tools for Dragon Age Inquisition?

TL;DR -

Mike has already said they have no plans for it and I doubt there will be, EA pretty much refuses to make mod tools for the frostbite engine.  They've used different excuses like it's too complicated for modders to use but I think it honestly comes down to fans making mods better than their piddly item packs and they don't want to extend the life of their games because they can't put out releases as often.  In my mind its just EA being EA and EA and that's not going to change no matter how much gamers demand it.

If Bioware doesn't supply modding tools they will destroy their own game.

I know a couple old games that still live thanks to the fans that still making mods.

STALKER DAO SKYRIM Fallout 3 and New Vegas and thats not whole list.

I seriously hope BW will provide us with modding tools.Otherwise DAI won't live long.

Anyone want to make a drinking game out of this?  I don't drink anymore, but I'd be happy to buy the booze for everyone else...

No modding tool's i'm afraid. Wish there was. Its what gives Skyrim ( and other games of coarse just using Skyrim as my example) such long playability/replayabilty.

The game isn't doomed cause it doesn't have Modding tools.

Yeah, they totally announced modding tools, right behind dual-wielding and the three new straight-male only romances one of which is a demure cookie-baking dwarven damsel. I'm sorry for that but is it so freaking hard to do a damn search on the subject before making a new thread?

The Frostbite engine doesn't belong to Bioware, they can't just make modding tools for it if they want to. They would have to get permission from DICE and EA to make the modding tools and I don't think either of them would want that.

I think its all up to modders and fans if the game can be modded or not. Unlike bf games it has no affect on mp if you mod sp so I think modders will likely spring up even without tools.

there is mods for BF but they are mainly textures and the like. I imagine other more complex things will be more difficult.

Ya its difficult but one of the main reasons people don't do gameplay mods for bf is that it would get ppl banned for hacking if they are playing custom modes or maps.

There would be no restriction like that on dragon age sp mode.

Well EA/DICE should take a close look at the sales figures for Skyrim, particulary the number of console subscribers who subsequently purchased the PC version after their console version. One reason, replayability due to mods.

Totally agree! I have 300+ characters in Origins. Played every complexion of Warden. Would only be around 10 or so without mods. After first couple of playthroughs, its mods that keep the game alive. The mod community is so vibrant, they will find a way! Fingers crossed

Hey, I've got a link to the Skyrim sales numbers.  Check this out.  The results are from December of last year, and I really doubt that it has changed that much:

http://www.statistic...s-v-statistics/

If you don't want to click on the link, here's the break down:

XBox 360: 59 %

Playstation 3: 27 %

PC: 14 %

That number comes to 86% of Skyrim's sales coming from console gamers.  For now, unless Sony and MS change their minds about allowing users file access (which is how you can mod,) modding only benefits a small percentage of the community.  That is the reality no matter how you slice it.

It doesn't matter how many mods are out there, the sales numbers don't lie.  You're free to look up the DA numbers as well, but I don't think it'll be too much different from Skyrim's numbers.  Since Skyrim is known for having so many mods, you'd figure that there would be more PC purchases.   That goes to show while mods are a nice thing (which I do enjoy as well,) they are only good for a few.  It also appears that many don't care if they can mod a game or not.  There has been 20m copies of Skyrim sold, with only ~14% coming from PC users.

Let's not forget Bioware/Black Isle's 'Baldur's Gate' series - grand-daddy of them all!

Spoiler

Released in 1998 and mods are still being made for it, despite the Infinity engine being pretty damn hard to mod.

Also Bioware's 'Icewind Dale' series and 'Neverwinter Nights'. :)

On a related note: Besides the old pen n paper, I miss Forgotten Realms/Dungeons & Dragons as an adventure/RPG computer game setting so damn much! I know Black Isle are planning on releasing a dungeon crawler (with minimal storyline, I think?) in the near-ish future (and some original members have almost finished Pillars of Eternity), but I want something in the same vein as BG, IWD & NWN series.  Here's hoping, one day..
