Necromancy has been my favorite mage discipline since a very long time. The idea of playing around with death is both careless but powerful.

What do you think the necromancer class will be like? Are you going to choose it? We got a glimpse of in dragon age 2.

Basically, necromancer general thread.

I would love a necromancer class. I hope the class doesn't just summon skeletons\zombies out of thin air, though. I'd like it if actual corpses are needed for reanimation (and modification).

I think the Necromancer's spells will be so powerful, they'll wake the dead.

And...I was originally going to make a list of puns about necromancy, but I ran out of them...I am no Patrick Weekes.

Ahem, anyway, I anticipate the Necromancer will be delightful. I think it'll be diverse. Walking Bomb, some type of pet ability, I suspect Horror, and a RIDICULOUSLY POWERFUL healing spell, Resurgence.

Is the necromancer available in the SP game, or is it limited to MP?

Necromancer is a specialization now!

Judging by some of the other specs, I'm going to guess they just took the entropy tree, and other preexisting spells like walking bomb, and called it a new specialization.  I'm hoping we actually get a summon-able minion, it would seem weird if we didn't.

I'm thinking it would probably be an ability deep in the skill tree. It would be ridiculous not to give us one.

Are you going to choose it?

hell yes hell yes

I have no idea what it's going to do but it sounds the coolest.  It seems like it will be more damage focused while Rift Mage is more about control.

but i'm making stuff up really

cuz idk

Skeletons! :)

The description sounds like a mix of entropy and spirit. Horror and Walking bomb will be there for sure. I'd like death cloud and animate dead or something new.

I don't think we'll get to summon any skeletons or zombies at all actually.  If Alexius is a necromancer, it looks like we'll summon either shades or wraiths or both.  After all the description of the class says they can ''bring spirits to fight for them.''  It doesn't mention skeletons or zombies, although that would be cool too.

From the videos and dev talk we've had so far, it seems that Necromancy is going to be a mix of entropy and spirit.  To be honest the summoning of spirits is far less interesting to me than the idea of abilities like Drain Life and Walking Bomb; which was the basis of my first (and most loved) Warden.

But what really sold the spec to me is all the talk about Necromancy having the only Heal spell in the game; using the focus ability.  As someone who always plays a Priest, Cleric, Shaman etc, this finally solidified my choice about which class for my cannon playthrough.  So as of last night...

Necro for life... no puns intended

If I pick mage, and a speciality, it will be Necromancer mainly for the entropy magic and walking bomb, which I liked in DA:O. Also I hope there's death syphon.

My most favourite thing about the dragon age necromancer is that they're users of spirit magic, that specializes in binding spirits interested in death.

That's the best necromancer ever :D

i gotta try out the necromancer specialization before i can decide if i support it or not, i do look forward to trying it out, particularly they took blood magic out and this seems to be blood magics replacement. as for the multiplayer character, i'm gonna try them all out and see which i like best, similar to what i did with the mass effect 3 multiplayer.

I decided on Necromancer the moment I knew they were in.

Too bad we dont get 2 x specializations because Knight Enchanter + Necromancer = Death Knight right? :D
I have high hopes for necromancer specific dialogue and reactions.

If we do summon skeletons, I hope that any old corpse will do. In DAO, it was kinda odd that corpses your party didn't kill can't be used for necromancy.

Necromancer is planned for my 1st playthrough. I love summoners, and since there is no dog in this game, I hope I can summon/reanimate something as a damage sponge if nothing else. Since damage mitigation is going to be a big thing in combat, that would make something that could soak damage for you (instead of only your tank) very valuable, I should think.

I would be quite surprised if we didn't get a summonable minion.

Now, whether or not it will be able to do anything other than suck and die, that's the trick.

I wonder where we learn that Spec. I think one of the devs said we had to find all of them in-game this time, like in DA:O. Potentially during a very cool quest, I guess.

From Prima's strategic DAI description:

Of the three classes, there are several specializations for each. Mages can be Knight Enchanters, Necromancers or Rift Mages. Knight Enchanters summon weapons and have more abilities geared toward protection and defense. Necromancers use summoned spirits to help them fight and have abilities focused on area damage, such as enemies exploding upon death. Rift Mages are closer to a typical mage class, specializing in powerful offensive spells.

With the potion/healing nonsense, necromancer is looking better all the time.  Having a few extra meat shields to distract enemies and absorb some punishment could be handy.  Either enemies ignore your minions and they're free (persistent?) damage, or they attack them and they reduce potion consumption.
