Man I can't wait for the necromancer quest then I bet cass would be curious on how we learned such skills or she will recognized them and would not raise a huge stink about it. I expect her to tell us to be careful considering many in the world don't view it the same way instead they see us defiling the dead and messing around with spirits or even demons.

Well demons are spirits but you get what I mean, still can't wait for npc reactions thanks for the info Lil yonce I hope the spec is not disappointing. Well I am going to be looking through my warhammer tomb king books to pick out a good name for my Qunari. *crosses fingers and hopes the spec is not disappointing*

It would be interesting having the assertive Cass shrug her shoulders to a taboo like necromancy should this info gel with in game lore.

Yeah she is from Nevarra right? So she might be curious on how we learned the art actually.

The PC doesn't have a specialization when the game start. Chance are she's going to be in your party when you do the quest to learn it. Otherwise she's get all the juicy info from the other companions.

Vivienne:  By the Maker, ze Inquisitor - he was talking to a skull - no?

Varric:  Not sure why you added a question on the end, but yeah he was.

Vivienne:  It is - how you say - "degoutant" - no?

Sera:  What-ou-what?

Varric:  Again, why the question?  Yeah - it's kinda freaky.

Iron Bull:  Wut?

Sera:  The Inqusitor is a dug o taint.

Iron Bull: ?

Vivienne:  Sacreblue!  Is not "dug o taint" - is - how you say - dis-gus-ting?  No?

Iron Bull:  Wait... what is?

Varric, Sera and Vivienne:  Talking to skulls!

Iron Bull:  My axe does that daily.

Varric: ...

Sera:  Hey Viv... wait!  C'mon, alright - I won't make fun of the ridiculous way you speak.  OW!  That hurt!  You know the Inquisitor said you can't shoot lightning at me anymore... Viv... uno momento por favor!   *laughing*  I KNOW... it's Antivan.

My 1st playtrough I'm taking the Necro . But I'm also hoping it has strong spell related to the Necro (from any other games) like Leech and what not . And not just being able to summon.......................because I really don't like the Summon . *shrug* I know it is a popular options , but I do like the Necro for the death spells mostly . And not for summoning Undead...well unless..it is a Leech King  Then maybe....but if it is just skeleton and zombies ? Ew...no Thanx .

Just a thought now that I think about going by what gaspard said he was a blood mage what he said when encountering the murderer in DA2. It seems like necromancy seems like a whole different school of magic that many people don't even know how to properly utilise. Most undead we see are crazy things with spirits simply shoved into and they are let of the chain to simply murder people and not much else. Even the animate dead you can learn in DAO seems to be just using mana to manipulate a corpse like a puppet.

So what we are going to learn is proper necromancy the good stuff going by the Mortalitasi information.

If she has a problem with it, I will kick her out of the Inquisition.  I don't like her hairstyle or personality already.  Maybe Varric will like me more if I tell her to get lost anyway.

I am curious about Necromancy.

First off, Necromancy is the binding and control of the dead, the spirits and everything associated with that such as curses, hexes and diseases.

On the one hand, Necromancy is fascinating because it means you can, theoretically, from an RP standpoint, use it to gain more information. For example, if you enter an old ruin you could use Necromancy to raise one of the dead corpses there or summon one of the spirits there and ask for information. Additionally, Necromancy would also be useful in an investigation where you could raise a dead victim and question them.

However, there is the fact that Necromancy deals with filthy and disgusting things. The dead usually contain diseases, rot, insects, foul odor and what have you. Then there is the fact you are forcing a spirit to be under your control which is a form of enslavement.

I am curious about the ethics of Necromancy, about how potential Necromancers here feel about being a Necromancer and why would you want to be a Necromancer in the first place ?

I agree^. Though I myself am not planning on becoming a Necromancer myself, I am very interested to see how Necromancy will be addressed in the game, as I find all magical lore enthralling. The Mortalitasi Skull has already piqued my interest extremely. I hope the quest for the Necromancy specialization does give us a lot more background info on the subject. Also, very curious what Cassandra will have to say in regards to all of this.

My Inquisitor will be his own character independent of follower's opinions about him so he won't really care about what Pentaghast might say about his potential wish to be a necromancer. Your mileage may vary however. I prefer to make individualistic playable characters who are what they are on their own terms.

I am however, interested in a few things.

1) Why would someone become a necromancer ? Why would someone spend their time associating themselves with death, ghosts, decay, disease and filth ? Is it just purely for power or for some other reason such as maybe your Inquisitor chooses to specialize as a Necromancer in hopes of bringing back someone they loved but died (probably in the explosion).

2) Is it possible to be a good necromancer or an ethical necromancer or even a neutral necromancer ? In many games, Necromancer is almost always associated with evil. So how do you go about being a hero, be someone who is looked up to and be a necromancer ? Or is your Inquisitor an anti-hero necromancer ? I mean you are essentially someone who enslaves the dead and the spirits for your own goals.

From what we have seen, the Necromancy questline involves the Inquisitor summoning the spirit of a dead Mortalitasi in order to teach them Necromancy. So while you might not care about raising the dead, it will be part of your questline.

I wonder what will prompt our discovery of the Necromancy spec. Maybe a conversation with Dorian? Or maybe we happen to fight a necromancer in game and then we find his or her notes on the magical school.

Personally I am just curious about the dead and spirits and going by the information that Lil yonce posted from the world of thedas The Mortalitasi sound really interesting plus the artifact is part of the learning process. The skull is the test of willingness to learn since you actually have to summon your teacher who is a Mortalitasi into a skull a NICELY built skull that is built well and respected since that's also important.

There is a saying summon the dead for the truth and summon demons for knowledge and I am quite interested in truth and knowledlge well my characters are and the Mortalitasi are the only mages who are pushing the limits on magic apart from the Tevinter thing is all the other circles are freaking terrified of them and there is loads of propaganda that they are death cult. Which is most likely false and true at the same time.

IMO, Dorian is probably a Necromancer and does not have a problem with it because he is from Tevinter. Tevinter is a culture where power and hedonism are king. It is a place where Blood Magic and slavery are normal so Necromancy is probably seen as benign there.

Most likely we will unlock the Necromancy spec by meeting with someone who is affiliated with the Mortalitasi. They are the Theodosian experts of Necromancy after all.

Well I expect cass and Dorian to have interesting things to say since I assume his form of necromancy is different, since the Mortalitasi are the guys who are THE necormancers of thedas. I assume we might meet a Mortalitasi who gives us the info on how to get started but they can't actually teach us only a dead Mortalitasi summoned within the skull can you know tradition and all that.

Plus as said before the summoning of the Mortalitasi in the crafted skull displays the willingness to actually learn the art as well.

I am also curious to know if there is any cost associated with Necromancy. Powerful magics always have a cost of some form.

Do you have to indebt yourself in some way to the dead ? Or perhaps create some Horcrux like talisman ?

Additionally, I think the Necromancy focus power should be something insanely powerful. Like the ability to raise multiple dead beings simultaneously or something but it has a long casting time and might be interrupted but if the spell was complete....Undead Army....

That would be pretty cool.
