I have quite a few and not all about my own characters. You can all share your own stories, or experiences and feel free to ask questions about anyones story or experience.
This tale was about my first time ever playing a 2nd edition game that I can remember, and when I say 2nd edition I mean Dungeons and Dragons. My friends had no books, and I knew nothing of the game and would be guided by them for the most part. They (my friends were all experienced players of 2nd edition by this time and I think it was around 1998 it was definitely before 3rd edition came out but not long before.) So I told them I wanted to be a mage or some sort, and someone suggest I try a Gnome Illusionist, so not knowing any i decided okay. They talked me through the character creation process and I just did whatever they said because they sucked at explaining the system to me.
Anyway during some point we both (there were only 2 players, me a friend and the DM) got captured and were being held by Orcs. The other player was beaten unconscious for trying to resist during the initial scuffle, I was roughed up by not nearly as in bad a shape. From what the DM was describing I didn't know what to make of the situation, I was not used to this kind of verbal only gaming as we had no figurines or maps. The other player a good friend of my basically told me we have to break out of here, but I didn't know what I could do so he just advised me to roll to try and break my chained restraints... so long and behold on my first rolling attempt the little puny gnome illusionist, rolled perfectly or something on his dice roll, and shattered the restraints like hercules or samson. Fear the mighty Gnome I balked in my mind, and then realized that though that was a heroic and triumphant achievement for gnome physical prowess, the DM took it as a very showy display and the Orc guarding us quickly turned on me before i could ever cast a spell and beat me to death... that was the end of the very short adventure.
