I'll quit when the Orlesian aristocracy quits being cancer.
But the whole point of cancer is that it doesn't quit.

Exactly.
All I know, is that I may not want to risk Gaspard using military force to solve all the problems of the Empire when diplomacy would be better.
Celene seems to be willing to use military force to solve her problems just as easily as Gaspard.
TIL: Being a limp noodle and a hypocrite makes you a good diplomat.
Never said anything about Celene, did I?Celene seems to be willing to use military force to solve her problems just as easily as Gaspard.
What I was saying was that we do not know what effects each leader would have. for all we know, Gaspard could be worse for Orlais than Celene. All I know, is that I may not want to risk Gaspard using military force to solve all the problems of the Empire when diplomacy would be better.
He is capable of using diplomacy actually, you see it in the book with the marriage idea for an alliance with Celene. I think Gaspard is just more incline to use warfare, especially with foreign diplomats.
Never said anything about Celene, did I?
So you're admitting to double standards?
Not admitting anything, just saying I do not trust Gaspard, which has nothing to do with Celene. I do not really care for Orlais in general. So you're admitting to double standards?

The main difference being when she does it it doesn't work.
So Orlais has an Empress that can't command the loyalty of her people, can't really intrigue to save her life, and can't handle military command.
But hey at least she'd be willing to pass a few token reforms that will be rescinded the second the Nobility complains...

For all of this talk about Gaspard being a military genius he sure fails a lot at killing Celene.

Right, let's ignore what Celene actually does, which is murder a few thousands elves because her contemporaries told her to, for what Gaspart might do. You can't really use that as a point against Gaspard when his only opposition has already done it.

Which has more to do with chance and the bravery of people more worthy than Celene than any talent on her part.
She couldn't even properly betray Gaspard after the duel.

What a person HAS done means nothing if they actually change. That is a point against Gaspard. Celene might actually end up better for Orlais than Gaspard despite what she HAS done.
The opposite applies as well you realize?

Sure, like that time Remache tried to end the civil war and Gaspard killed him?
True, but my posts were not about Celene. What she has done has nothing to do with Gaspard or what could happen if he is in charge. Same thing about Celene. The opposite applies as well you realize?

Gaspard might have Branka turn people into golems.

Gaspard kept his word even when it cost him.
Something Celene is not able to do. She has no strength of character, she has proven herself unworthy of the throne.

Hey that's not fair. Like Gaspard's detractors already established just a few posts ago. You can't let past behavior inform your opinion of what they might do next. After all they could totally spontaneously become entirely different people!

I would hope she would let the university study her then.
Pretty sure spontaneous spine growth is worth looking in to.

You made me laugh.
Which in turn reminded me of this inspirational poster.

Alas my point, how can Gaspard be more competent if his honor gets in the a way of ending a war that is gonna to cost more lives, resources and continuing the instability in Orlais. That is an intelligent or competent move? please tell me how?

You seem to be leaving out the bit where that didn't interfere with his chance to depose Celene just a few minutes later via duel.
You really think Gaspard would have reacted the same way if it had actually be a consequential decision in so far resulting in his possible defeat?
I think he has a code, i think he has honor, but it wasn't applied in a situation where it could cost him anything more then the support of a single abet powerful noble.
I think Gaspard likes winning on his own terms more then he actually likes winning, that could be a flaw.

Agree. Gaspard has flaws and people seem to overlook them a lot, he is no Tywin Lannister not even a Bhelen.
