Yeah, like the idea of monarchy is to make political marriages. Elisabeth I didn't marry and look how well it worked for the Tudors ![]()
Empress Celene... vile traitor OR savior of Orlais?

On the other hand, I think we can agree that refusing to do anything because she was unwilling to give up her lover and her secret morning tea was pretty much a terrible thing for the ruler of a nation to do, and possibly the worst thing in this situation. She had the opportunity to at the very least delay things, and didn't even take that.
I agree, at least to the extent that entertaining the idea of marriage with multiple candidates via courtship might have done well to keep some of the important houses on her side. The idea of marriage itself, however, was a minefield, made even more volatile after her social gaffe.
That was just Remache excuse for supporting Gaspard. The real reason is that he wanted his daughter to marry an emperor, Gaspard says so.
Ah, the useful opportunist then. I guess he was a potential resource that both Celene and Gaspard managed to mishandle.

Yes, and I've made my points defending Celene many times.

So you don't think she backstabbed her lover then? Briala was wrong to leave her? Having her elf's parents murdered was a justifiable sacrifice? ![]()

I blamed Lady Mantillon for that and Briala already got her revenge. If Celene told Lady Mantillon no, don't kill my servants, I'd full expect Celene to die along with her servents. Lady Mantillon even had Gaspard in mind as a replacement/back up plan. Briala seemed to understand this in the book. Briala broke off with Celene not because what happened to her parents but because she knew Celene would want gradual slow reform and Briala was no longer willing to wait for changed. She wanted it now and believed the Eluvians and the civil war gave her the means for rapid change for the city elves benefit.

Okay, wow. Exoneration for a murderess because she cried about it later. That explains a lot.

I don't really care about metagaming when it concerns the fate of an empire, but I'm sure Gaspard will fill us in, so eh
If he doesn't decide to let a bunch of people die out of his sense of honor. Sure, his honor will keep him from torturing the Inquisitor, but in the same sentence he'll happily order the destruction of an entire city and burning everyone in it to get the Inquisitor to comply.
He and Celene both suck, and neither have my confidence, based on the novel. But I'm willing to play the game and make a more firm opinion one way or the other after the game comes out and I've played a few playthroughs and saw the results of supporting either.

The Orlesian ball isn't much of a spoiler for me since Bioware released art of Halamshiral on their blog and said that an assassin was in the midst of the ball.

^^ Don't know why it says it was posted 4 days ago. There was a similar post I saw last summer about it.
Edit: Yeah, here's a thread of mine from last summer about it: http://forum.bioware.../#entry17170431

probably not but I will take Gaspard over Celene any day hopefully we can execute her she really got on my nerves
the whole book I was like where is my Inquisitor who can bring justice?
she still thinks that she did the right things thats just crazy (like burning the elves in that city or being responsible for killing Brialas parents)
Thats why I like Gaspard he admits his mistakes and is honorable (he apologised to Michel for using that Bard)

Does anyone know who voices Celene, Gaspard, and Briala? Can't wait to hear their voices!
Celene looks like Tilda Swinton in the concept art... I liked her looks better in The Masked Empire cover.
