They considered naming a river in Orlais after Gaspard de Chalons, but they thought better of it because no one crosses Gaspard de Chalons and lives.

 

Gaspard actually died during the events of the novel. Death just hasn't gotten up the nerve to tell him yet.

 

Gaspard de Chalons has a wyvern-skin settee in his personal rooms. The Wyvern the skin belongs to isn't actually dead or separated from any part of it's skin...It's just afraid to move.

 

When Darkspawn emissaries go to sleep at night...they check the shadows for Gaspard de Chalons.

 

Gaspard de Chalons does not read scrolls. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

Gaspard does not take a bath to wash off his make-up at the end of the day. Water just wants to be around him.

Don't be so quick to assume it is any different with Gaspard. As the slide says, Orlais hates being indebted to anyone, even heros. So its likely Gaspard will do the same.  Or its possible Celene does something different if you get them all to cooperate or she and Briala reconcile.

I only have the game to go by, but just from one mission alone I'd have to say if I absolutely had to pick someone in this whole political mess I'd walk out and never return. Both Gaspard and Celene have their good points, and both are also so unfailing corrupt I can hardly stand it. Only a slight preference for the fact that Gaspard is at least upfront with you on various matters.

 

Also I heard it's possible to get both Gaspard and Celene to work together, along with Briala. Can anyone confirm? I want to try that for my next playthrough.

If Celene appears to be supportive of the Inquisition, wouldn't that threaten her position?  That she has to rely on an outside organisation for her power?  Her options are incredibly limited if you side with her.  Either she continues her support of the Inquisition even though it's already accomplished what it was set out to do and appear weak, or she drops support for it in order to appear strong.  I haven't got to that point in the story, but if she lends Orlais' support to the inquisition if you keep her in power, she's already paid that debt when you defeat the big bad.

 

I see no reason for Gaspard to not think the same.  Being in power solely because of somebody else is no way to make you appear strong, which is probably why he is always going to invade Ferelden.

 

Nations do not have friends, only interests.  The only people who think that such friendships exist aren't actually informed enough to the know the truth.  Such is realpolitik.  If something threatens your interests, you'd be stupid as a government to let it slide because of 'friendship', unless letting it slide means you end up better off in terms of your interests.

That still necessitates the fall of the the big three, which will immediately lead to destabilisation.  The Qunari will probably immediately invade Southern Thedas.  They'd have no better opportunity, what with Ferelden still in no position to oppose them and Orlais in tatters.  Nevarra might be able to be a major nation, but they just don't have the manpower against Tevinter or the Qunari and they are hardly in a good geographic position, despite access to the Waking Sea, to protect Ferelden from the Qunari*.  It's perfectly possible to win against big powers, but it's much harder to guarantee that victory if you're smaller, especially if that power has gunpowder or huge numbers of mages.

 

In any case, Nevarra is pretty much guaranteed to fall into internal strife in the near future, what with the imminent death of Markus Pentaghast, which won't help against the Qunari or the Tevinters.  Celene on a stable Orlesian throne is the best guarantee that 1) other nations will keep their sovereignty and 2) that the Qunari won't invade any time soon.

 

*Suppose we have 2 worlds, both with a shattered Ferelden invaded by the Qunari but with one having a strong Orlais and the other having a shattered Orlais.  In world 1, if the Qunari invade Ferelden, they'll have a lot of difficultly invading a united Orlais as they'll have to cross the Frostback Mountains or land along the Orlesian coast and face a united defence effort.  In world 2, it would be easy to sweep aside any Orlesian resistance, and now Nevarra is threatened at it's Southern Border by a Qunari empire that covers Orlais and Fereldan, with the accompanying manpower and resources.

Also there is hardly any one choice for long term stability of Thedas because there's going to be a sequel and I bet my ass instability is part of it. So no I really don't have to pick anyone because stability.  I'll pick them because I either feel my quizzy can get what he/she needs from them or because I want to see how the game ends up.

Honor by trying to assassinate the Empress when her bodyguard isn't around. Nope I don't think so. Also he had 2 mages hex his opponent in the duel.

This is why I like the Witcher games more than Dragon Age; they give you a neutral options where you can follow your own path. Well the second game was not quite like that, but people did not like it so the Witcher 3 is going to focus more on Geralt's story (not the political climate). It’s like Bioware has to always have a catch 22, all of their tension has to span from a binary plot point--they never have the ‘third option’ with its own unique 'individualist' consequences. To make this more clear, it is like person A does action X or you do, then something bad either happens to that person or to you etc. There is no, you stop action X, or you make person B do it 'option'. They never seem to write a ‘catch 33’ lol.

There is for example, no option to dispose of both Celine and Gaspard, and place your own puppet on the throne. This is something that would make sense due to the fact that the Inquisitor is a person with both incentive and power.

If I'm not mistaken, what you are referring to is the following option:

If you retrieved the blackmail on every option, as well as gotten at least 85 court approval, you can arrest Florianne and force the three of them to cooperate with one another. Gaspard receives a position in Celene's cabinet if you choose this route. I haven't finished the game yet to see it's implications, but I just like the thought of an elf with absolutely no experience in the Great Game coming into the ballroom and outplaying all three of these forces at once.
