Well, from watching the stream myself, once barrier went down, the Knight Enchanter took a lot of damage really quickly. So until the late game where you can get all the spells and equipment you need to be tanky, your going to have to be careful.

Which is a good thing, i believe. Causes you to have a tactical game play and not a faceroll, where you go in and everything drops :)

P.S. To be fair, Cassandra was taking an even worse beating in some videos, so i guess everone has it tough :P

There's a ton of gear to boost health and Con.

In videos I've seen:  +200 Health, +10 Con and Lifeward Amulets that provide a one time instant heal.

I think a Knight Enchanter will just have to outfit accordingly.

That is why I think they are prefect for mid range.  Close enough to benefit barrier on yourself and tank or rogue but far away not to get creamed. Since Barrier is confirmed not to take mitigation into account.  I can not see KE taking more than 2 hits before needing to get out of close range.  I think a good tank is going to be KE best friend.

Regarding active vs sustained for spirit blade ....

Shortly after 38:49 in the Twitch demo, you can see both the spirit blade in use (three or so times) and the keyboard (although there appears to be a bit of a delay between the two).  It looks to me like he's pressing 1 every time he uses spirit blade, but I'm not on a big enough screen, atm, to be sure.

I have found my favourite specialisation!

Seriously, Necromancer / Rift Mage have to have some pretty sweet moves for me to change my mind.

Still doesn't look quite as awesome as Archane Warrior was in DA:O... but let's face it, that was a bit OP.

Arcane Warrior was boring. Auto attacks and tanking sustains made for very boring game play. Knight Enchanter seems far more exciting to play.

I'm trying not to like KE because AW was so ridiculously OP that I want something completely different. I'm fine with KE not being the best tank in the game. I really like the Veiled Riposte looks like it gives the KE a totally different play style altogether. I'm happy with it.

I think its tied to auto attack after he presses 1 the icon remains dark suggesting its probably the auto attack when toggled on.

They're having auto attack toggled off, so they are pressing it all the time to appear.

It says while active, so it has active and off mode. But the good thing is, even if it was just an attack press, you can concecutively attack again and again, and the blade will appear in your hand for quite some time.

Yeah i like it.

I'm gonna make a Nazgul Gandalf Style! \o/

The only thing i would improve, is the visual of the Spirit Blade. I'd like to materialise it completely in my hand, for as long as the toggle is on, and run around with it.

This. Exactly this.

I am HUGELY disappointed that we don't visibly look different except when we're swinging the blade around. Carrying around the sword is a prerequisite for me.

so, after watching the stream recording, I..........actually like what I saw with Knight Enchanter and the spirit blade.

it's "different" from what I had envisioned, although not entirely too far off from what I posted here yesterday.  I said it could be a slash type move where the blade only appears during the attack.  with 0 cooldown.  and that's essentially what we got.

the main difference is that instead of summoning a blade in sword form, your hand sort of becomes the blade, so to speak ( the spirit energy wraps around your hand and follows the arc of your hand ).

and, I actually like that.  It will help differentiate my Knight Enchanter playthrough from my Templar - they won't feel exactly the same.

I'm still going Templar as my 1st character to get the classic sword and shield warrior experience.  But I'm going to roll a KE as my 2nd character.

I have to disagree. I much prefer materializing a blade out of your hand just for the swing. I kind of wish I didn't have to carry a staff at all and just use the spirit blade. Like Fou-Lu in Breath of Fire 4.

Templar is nothing like a battlemage.

I wish people would stop saying they're anything close to an Arcane Warrior, because they aren't.

You need the staff for basic attacks, and other spells you might cast I think is the reasoning they went with

I agree but they are the closet thing to a "Gish" (DnD term) build in this game as you can get for some people

I know why, I'm just saying. I loathe staffs as a mage weapon.

Looks like passives grant magic in this tree, not constitution, willpower, or anything else.

I think the reason it doesn't stay around has to do with animating spells.

Damn... now I'm really itching to see the rest of the spec. He didn't hover over any of the end-of-tree abilities...

Truthfully i was so dead set on sticking with a warrior, mainly because it is what i normally stick with, until i read this thread. Now i might go with the knight enchanter. It looks like it will be a lot of fun to play with. My reservation is i really don't like squishy characters because i like to get right in the fray and if barrier is not effective enough i am going to have a really hard time.

We've seen 1 passive for all we know the other three could be constitution though im betting on a mix of magic, willpower and constitution.

Here's another thing I'm loving about KE and this game's combat in general: all of these trees just work so well with each other in so many different combinations.

For example: Spirit Blade + Clean Burn. Every cast spell reduces your cooldown by 1 second on all other spells. If this works with Spirit Blade that would be insane. You'd be using a damaging, rapid-fire ability that is cheap on mana and reduces the cooldown on everything else per use.

KE+Winter: Standing by an enemy that is frozen (or a persistent cold spell) reduces damage taken by 50%. Fade Step requires minimal investment into the Winter tree while giving you a gap-closer/escape/debuff/damage multitool.

KE+Storm: Static Cage. There is no escape. If Static Charge works with Spirit Blade, you can use it as a "counter" to interrupt enemy attacks (and paralyze them) while delivering 400% combined weapon damage. If you drop a lot of nukes, Conductive Current gives you a 5% damage bonus for every 10% missing mana, meaning your Spirit Blade only gets stronger the more you use it and other spells.

Rod of Fire was about as close as we got in Origins. Would be a nice inclusion in a later game I think. Mage staff and wand. Harry Dresden build here I come. (Still planning on a Dresden build with what we've got.)

Wish I could watch the Twitch vid, but of course I missed it.
