man they really seem squishy.  Hope top teir abilities adress it a little bit

You're right.

We've seen 1 passive for all we know the other three could be constitution though im betting on a mix of magic, willpower and constitution.

Have we seen other trees that mix and match attributes for spec? Oh right artificer. Its just the non-spec trees that have only one attribute/passive then?

I know why, I'm just saying. I loathe staffs as a mage weapon.

Me too, but at least you can make it look like a spear.  I hope there are some models that at least resemble the Staff of Parlathan.  To me that could have easily been mistaken for a polearm.

That Mickey Mouse staff was just.... butt ugly.

no every rogue spec ive seen gives both dexterity and cunning and the mage trees are all over the shop with willpower, magic and quite a bit of constitution.

Thanks for that, not sure how you found it. Still can't watch it though... My computer sucks too much! I'm seeing a frame rate of something like 1 frame per 3 seconds with a lot skipped in between. I have download helper downloading its entire 600-something MB FLV so I'll be able to watch it eventually. Download time says it will take 18 minutes.

They're not squishy. Mike's spec had barrier, but nothing on the winter tree, which has ice armor.

You have barrier, guardian spirit, ice armor, invulnerability every 12 seconds for 2 seconds, ability to wear heavy armor, Resurgence, the whole left part of the tree we saw nothing about, at attack that does huge melee damage to an arc and reflects ranged attacks and spells, plus more.

And you're think they're squishy? Maybe you remember Arcane Warrior, or rather, AW AND Spirit Healer together, that made for the invulnerable God Mode.

They receive the proper amount of damage when everyone focuses fire on them and they don't build up their defenses.

Cassandra was getting 1/4 of her life gone from every hit of a shielded templar in a previous video.

I think it's intentional that, without pro-active usage of damage mitigation abilities, you drop fast, no matter what class you are.

He wasn't following a dedicated tankish set of abilities, he even had immolate.

It's funny, reading the last several pages, with how the tide completely turned. When the stream went up, many posts were saying how crappy and disappointing it was and that playing it didn't look so appealing anymore. Then the pics of the abilities were put up, and suddenly everyone loved it. That's some epic flip flopping =].

After watching the stream, and eating leftover pie, I have to admit the KE just seems a bit unsatisfying to me... I think I would have preferred Spirit Sword to be exactly what it is, but be a sustainable mode. Still chipping away mana per hit, but I could always leave it on, especially because I would always have a sword when aggro'd instead of constantly summoning.

And I wish the sword was *slightly* more substantial looking. Right now, it's hard to notice until you get swinging. And I wish the upgrade for Spirit Sword gave you guard so I could be a real tank, but that's wishing it was something radically different.

Anyway, I just don't the the 'occasional melee' feel of it, and I think if I didn't have to constantly summon it, it would feel less occasional to me.

Oh man, this doesn't look good.

I mean, it looks kinda interesting, sure. But man, the Spirit Blade not being a sustained ability is a big no for me.

I pray for the day that Weapon Restrictions are gone.

I'm still incredibly disappointed.

Perhaps those that were disappointed aren't constantly being vocal in their negativity, because they're not total jerks.

I think it makes sense to have it only out when swung, every second it's out would probably drain the mages mana. So to conserve, they only summon it at the moment it's needed. Besides, it's like Zero's Z-Buster from Megaman X and Megaman Zero, and that's kinda cool.

While it's not exactly what I wanted, I still like what I saw, and We still have to Discover the other passives ans the other spell.

I don't know how I feel. I still intent to use it first playthrough though. For myself, it's a little different from what I expected and yet its abilities seem extremely useful and powerful. So even if it's not what I wanted, it still seems to be an excellent specialization.

Yeah, i was hoping for something more as well, although i can live with it.

What i would like was a more substancial form of the Blade, and the abiliy to hold it while not attacking as well.

It still is a sustained mode though, for the comments above. Just a sustained mode that makes it attack when you're close.

Yeah, Spirit Sword does 300% weapon damage. The damage is based off your staff's stats.

Oh now that is good.

It makes up for the 10 MP cost since it is a special stance skill that gives the Mage a 300% Melee Magic Damage normal attack.

also does extra dmg to guard and barriers and is a combo detonator.

It doesn't look like a special stance. It looks like a small cone attack on button press. It's like Skyrim's shout. You press button, he does fusrodah. Or WoW's shockwave, cone of cold and dragon's breath. Or shepard's omniblade.

Yeah i would really really preferred it, if i could summon it in my hand and run around holding it, not just summon it for attacking with it and then gone.

I admit that at least i like being able to have consecutive attacks with it, and it's sustainable, but, why not have it in your hand and then attack? Not just have in your hand just before attacking and then bye :P

Man, it was so close to be perfect. Now it's just good. Aesthetics matter more than mechanics some times.

Oh and im loving KE. Depending on rift mage, i think most of my mage inquisitors will be KE or necromancer ( i love the spirit binding description its so dragon age)

The omniblade, for the couple of classes that did have it, was a heavy melee that locked in on a single target.

In fact.. none of those are really very similar to the spirit blade at all

The spirit blade performs a sweeping horizontal melee combo. It is not medium range, they pretty much have to be right in front of you... about the range of a 2-handed sword. The blade is a few feet long, but I figure the hit-box might be more forgiving than that.

If you need to keep pressing the button, how do you rationalize that against the description of the spell "Cost: 10 Mana per Attack While Active"

I think it works like an "Orb", or using it would be like "orb walking". In DoTA/MOBA terms it's a manually-activated basic attack with special properties. Thus, each button-press is an individual slash with the Spirit Blade.

All the skills on the hotbar would flash every time Mike used it, and he also appeared to control how many attacks out of the 3 hit combo were used, so I'm thinking it is manually activated instead of sustained. For KB/M users without gaming mice or other peripherals, this sounds like it could be a pain in the ass.
