At the same time, I think this showcases one of the KE's potential pitfalls we'll have to watch out for... which is being very, very hungry. Hungry for mana.

I was discussing this with Icy as well. In Laidlaw's KE build, he did not take many passives other than barrier ones. I think if we took passive for mana regen, crit damage, longer radius of stunlock abilities....Then craft gear that grants mana regen & crit damage...It should not be a problem....

But yes a Mage Vanguard KE will be Mana hungry or rather Mana Regen hungry.

Again, though, I think a schizoid mana build that goes from low to high and back fast works with the +dmg on low mana buffs.

I want to try detonating a walking bomb with fadecloak and see if I take friendly fire. Cloak makes you immune to damage.

Barrier->Pull everyone together->Cloak

Spam all aoe and detonate the walking bomb with cloak.

Clever. Walking bomb still does % of enemy HP damage or has that changed?

I'm going to assume that this will be changed. It was broken in DA2, doing some crazy 18-20k aoe damage. But we don't have info yet. I was kind of sad when they announced that only necromancer has access to it. It's one of the fun skills ^^

HP asymmetry is less ridiculous this time around, so it might still be in. Frankly, I would make it a focus ability and keep it the same. Now that's a limit break.

It would be ok being necro only if we could infect a pet with it and send them charging in....oh the muhahahahas that would ensue..... :D

Yeah, I just don't remember how many passives there are for regen. There's Rejuvenating Barrier, and then there's the one in the Winter tree. The problem with the latter passive is that it requires 3 seconds of standing still before it activates, and this game is still fast-paced enough to make 3 seconds an eternity. Doesn't synergize well at all.

The winter passive works better with a nuke-style, then. Seems like it's better to invest in other sources of mana regen.

What do you mean? Dragons have massive HP.

Lol, this reminded me of a comical WoW situation. Back in the beginning of the Wrath of the Lich king, Deathknight had a skill that caused his ghoul pet to explode and it could literally oneshot players with a critical hit.

Dragons having massive HP is OK. Random assassin 57 having 25,000 HP is not.

I wouldn't say it's less ridiculous. If memory serves, act 3 weak mooks had about 2k health. Normal had about double that. The numbers seem kind of similar.

It was some elite mobs that had extemely ridiculous healthpools, like genlock alphas who were around 50k.

Spirit Sword has crazy damage, and you have another skill which gives you avoidance, but not tankiness. You are still squishy. They are not warriors, they are rogues!

Unless we can take mitigation through crafting, I dont think a tank KE will be possible in higher difficulties. The frost 50% passive is huge, but it is the only mitigation we have seen for KE so far...

Maybe we can start being mages, then unlock specialization and become rogues, and lategame when we have the correct talents and crafted gear we can become tanks... Talk about variety!

Oh yeah? I'm tanking everything since level 1! #AssQuisitor (or something :P)

Now, i do hope that heavy armor(real heavy armor, not just light armor that looks heavy, because we know they are available), are available until around mid game, i woulnd't want to spend a big part of the game grasping for mitigation.

In all honesty, there is no point to give someone power for just a few last battles. The biggest part of the game will be gone. If you can't customize yourself freely from a relatively early to mid point in the game, then the talk about customization was for show.

I don't know exactly how it works obviously. It could still be available early, or some can be available early. I guess not everything is available at the same time.

But it's a reminder to the devs, that aesthetics are important, and people want to look cool, as they envisioned their characters. With all the hype about customization, i honestly hope the hype, when you told us we would be able able to wear plate armor for Mages(and not at late game, never heard anything about that), was not just for show.

But seriously Kage, i don't see the squishiness you're talking about. With correct rotation of abilities that were not even optimal for tanking, and with light armor, the KE was receiving almost no damage on hard. When Mike neglected his cooldowns to show the other characters as well, that's when the defenses went down and received some damage. And he didn't even use fade cloak.

Anyway, to each his own, but yeah, KE can fill a lot of roles as i see it. Melee range damage, utility and support, tanking, whatever.

Honestly, when i heard we'll be summoning swords, i was really let down. I like the image of a mage with a real sword, and it emitting some form of element rather than, for instance, the Skyrim Bound Weapon spells. XD

Either way though, i'm probably still going to play a KE, unless they like really screw them up somehow. Biggest issue for me is mostly appearance based though. If i summon my sword/s i'd highly appreciate that i don't see my staff for however long i have the sword/s out. Or if i can go Gandalf stlye at the very least, hold my staff in my left with my sword in my right, then i'd be pretty cool with that.

Gandalf style, that's been the claim.

However, it's staff in right hand. Spirit Blade attack in left.

You know, i really like the golden spirit blade, and whatever else is in the tree.

But i was thinking, Warriors get all these nice flaming swords they get to run around with, why am i only making it appear when i smack people with it?

It's almost there to be perfect, but it's missing something.

I would like the option to summon it in my hand and run around with it.

Please? :x

In all honestly, it seems like the bound weapon of Skyrim was better aesthetically. You could actually hold it as a real weapon. This is like, halfway there. It's there all the time for you, but at the same time it isn't.

You'll just have to pimp out your mage staff to compensate.

If you ran around with it wouldn't it drain mana continually?

Just a thought :

https://www.youtube....F8z3YSbHg#t=360

If we look at the video just here (6:00), we can that the blade don't consume mana at all.

So 10 mana while active, seems to mean when you hit something.

It says it drains mana when it hits something. Or per attack, as is the exact wording. So no. Just having it out won't really drain anything.

Now REALISTICALLY, i guess i wouldn't want my opponent to know i have a magic sword as big as a greatsword in my hand that bypasses armor.

It's harder to evade something you only see when it's too late.

So i GUESS i can be ok with it.

-Hey a Mage, it's bread and butter!

-Wait Joe, this Mage is armored, and his staff looks bladed.

-Common, what could he do? Smack us wit /SLASH!

One down :bandit:
