so the sword is a spell effect.

Well, it is a spell that summons a sword.
It was pretty straight forward.
It's probably a sustained mode, it stays equipped as long as you have it on.

This sounds like active abilities rather than auto-attacks... eh... darn, I just have so many questions.
I think what he means is that it triggers from an ability. But that doesn't mean it's an active instead of an auto-attack.

You're probably right... this is just pessimism talking. With all the weird and unpredictable changes to the game mechanics, I don't want to expect something only to find out they went in a different direction...

with all the talk about how awesome KE is, we REALLY need to see it in action........lol.

Don't be swayed by pessimism!
I mean, Gandalf style is in the game!

I doubt the sword will be something you can easily have up all the time. If it's a sustained effect that you auto-attack with, it's likely to consume mana as it's kept up

See, I still get the impression that it will be a temporary spell to summon the blade. And not temporary as in "lasts until the end of battle" but temporary as in "active for 10 seconds with 10% melee damage; 20 seconds upon skill upgrade; 30 second cooldown" kind of thing.

I really hope it's not like this.

Depends on the passives, and the abilities that surround it.
We'll see, but i'm sure they thought of a nice way.
They thought of an implementation we didn't have even in our dreams. Ok maybe there.

Could be, it could have a duration, and a cooldown, so you still use it often.
The Knight Enchanter however, seems build around this. I doubt it's gonna just be, have this sword for 10 seconds and you're out.
But at this point, i don't care to be honest.
This spec is what i was secretly hoping for.

*Reads people's posts on how the sword might not be a turn on until you don't want it on ability*
Ok, so there is still something that will make me go Templar instead. *sigh*

I'm trying to not get over excited for this dual wielding staff/sword thing but DAMN i hope it is dual wielding, Gandalf Style
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but... this was something I always hated hated hated about my Lore Master in LotRO. The sword should be in the right hand!!!
But it's better than no sword at all, I'll give you that.
I'm hoping it's similar to this (a lesser known Lotr game, but still pretty decent)

KE sounds cool, but it still won't feel like a "true warrior."

But it's not a Warrior. It's a Mage that knows how to kick a$$ melee, and has abilities to make oneself a fortress while kicking said a$$.
You're gonna be able to wear plate all you want, you will still have your sword, AND your staff, which can be customized to look like a polearm.
So what's the problem? ![]()

Perfectly reasonable, but i doubt the central ability of the spec would be that much of a pain to use.
Besides, Weekes said he was a front line fighter all the time with said spec, and it delivered absolutely what he wanted from the spec. Why front line all the time with a blade you can summon every minute for 10 seconds?
Well, it is an indication of things looking good so far.

Considering that Patrick played his KE mainly as in the frontline, I think that even if there's a cooldown it won't be long.

Im hoping that they KE enchanters actually wield the arcane blades instead of just summoning a floting blade to hit mobs with. Cmon Bioware give me a reason to play a mage.
Edit:Whoops, just saw the tweet a few pages back(should have finished the thread b4 post)

A sword and shield Warrior that can use some magic as well, eh?
Maybe you would be more satisfied with Templar or Reaver.

Blade pure spirit energy, held in left hand (staff stays in right). Melee attacks. Amazing work by combat folks.

In any event, it still sounds better than playing as a warrior who has to throw grenades to attack at range. That's my one of the main reasons I was drawn to KE in the first place... so long as I can use both melee and ranged attacks, I'm good.

This spec is what i was secretly hoping for.
None of the other specializations seem like they will go so far as to actually change default [auto-attack] combat. They all seem more supplemental. So I imagine this KE sword will be supplemental to default staff attacks and not an actual replacement for them.
This is the only spec with the potential to make me turn away from a warrior build. Ideally for me the sword will be on as long as I want it to be on and the rest of the KE tree will be skills supplementing the blade itself. But I would honestly be surprised if that's the case.
But then how is the KE a "melee" combat character?
The rest of the tree could have skills that complement short-range combat. Defense boosting skills, barriers, maybe some separate skills that summon the blade in a different fashion (like a rogue's whirlwind or something)... etc
