I hate the boob windows. Seriously. Stop doing that, fantasy genre. Unless you want to give the men chest muscle windows in their armor.

That isn't armor.
I have a theory about that.
Now let me tell you about sticky nipples.

Are you really OK with boob windows in outfits as long as they aren't armor? Color me skeptical.
Sure, that stuff is fine as long as it's equal between men and women.
or at least explained. eg Celtic warriors with magical Tatoos ect
Sure, that stuff is fine as long as it's equal between men and women.
Despite the flack that Red Sonja gets i love pointing out that she works with Conan.. the Furry loincloth guy.
so she has more on than him.

Sadly it isn't and probably will never be. At least in DA games it's not that ridiculous:

Dude no one takes Terra seriosly. the characters put clothes on when they strip.
But if any of those arbitrarily aren't considered armor, they should be perfectly fine.
Only if the male equivalents are just as revealing, which they almost certainly are not.

Off the top of my head i can only think of arround 2 or 3 in DA that were drasticaly different for the genders.
Heck im designing a character for my own thing im writeing who only wares a sarashi and trousers.
If there is a reason for it fair doos.
in The princess of Mars almost all the characters are naked. why? they have no concept of clothing.
Some people don't care about practical, people like me want "cool" armour sometime even over the top.
Wolfs head as shoulder it add nothing to defence it's just look cool.
Spoiler
I'm not saying armour can't look cool, but that the embellishments should be part of the armour. The Wolfs head is part of the armour not added on afterwards.
So I guess we are going to ignore all the real armors that had combat skirts?
And people who wore armor were mostly men, not the even number that Da provides. Thus real world armor can't be used as an example for everything.
As for changing the color, I hope they put in dyes. It would suck if in order to have the color you want you have to use shoddy materials that will ensure your death in higher level parts of the game.
No, I'm not ignoring them. I said what would be the point of a heavy set.
I believe combat skirts or kilts tended part of lighter armour because they helped maintain a soldier's personal flexibility and speed, were as armoured trousers tend to restrict a person's movement.
Also when speaking about armour, does a combat skirt/kilt count as feminine? Most of the people who wore them were men.
In game BioWare has given us a clear indication of what armour from each country looks like, Orlesian armour has plenty of embellishments and nice touches, Ferelden armour is plainer.
If you wanted something more feminine, than would Orlesian armour not work?
I'm not saying armour can't look cool, but that the embellishments should be part of the armour. The Wolfs head is part of the armour not added on afterwards.
Sorry I thought you said armour should be practical, and shoulder peace is impractical and just waste of metal. And in DA all Qunari armour is impractical or they have no armour at all no one cares. Are you fine with Qunari armour?
I still have that sticky nipple theory.
Question why are they all reciteing Hamlet?
Sorry I thought you said armour should be practical, and shoulder peace is impractical and just waste of metal. And in DA all Qunari armour is impractical or they have no armour at all no one cares. Are you fine with Qunari armour?
Spoiler
well it's not impractical if it identifies you on the battlefield, plus as I said I've no issue with embellishments.
I mean check out this pimp armour and it was used for both field and tournament.
All I want is for armour to actually protect the person wearing it and for the embellishments not to take away from this.
In the case of the Qunari armour, the armour they wear is an over exaggerated form of what the early Celts used to wear. No armour or only armour on the most venerable placed, to allow for maximum movement on the battlefield.
In the case of the Qunari, any armour they wear would protect the body parts they are wearing them on.
I just don't understand how certain things like colour or sashes can make armour feminine.
I could be a medieval knight rocking something like this
Some people might look at that with a modern eye & think it is feminine, but I'm sure the Italian Cavalryman who wore it, didn't feel that way.
I can understand wanting armour to have more embellishments or be more stylised, but not feminine. Since I don't really understand what that term means in reference to armour.
^^
I don't get you guys - it's armor, its' job is to keep you save from harm and not to make you look pretty -.- (yes, no one wants to look like a coke can or a rusty kitchen appliance...but feminine armor? - come on...todays - female - soldiers don't have pink armor either -.-)
Why would anyone want frills, jewels etc. on their armor - if they don't have a practical purpose (like say runes to make it magical etc.)?
Still - maybe they should offer the option...I just don't know.

ps: I already have a problem with Vivienne being all dolled up - her clothes etc. don't look like they are made to fight in (!)

From a purely tactical POV that's bull - being identified is a bad idea (I would love to wear the same armor my troops wear (looks wise)...or non-descript other armor - as long as it's of good quality and enchanted (not everyone needs to know it's a superiour armor, do they), even if it does not look like anything special)

What I don't understand is why people want their NPC's armor to reflect their gender, its a suit of metal to protect you against physical damage from swords and other meele weapons and nothing else, it has nothing to do with the wearers gender.
Its like saying fire brigade suits for female firefighters should have boob windows or compliment their body shape, or radiation suits should be tight around the waist to show off female hips.
It just doesn't make any sense, its like people don't understand the difference between casual clothing and work wear.
Exactly my point
- it's not just the shape either...a suit of real battle-armor is supposed to be:
1. as tough as possible (for protection)
2. as light as possible (to not hinder movement too much)
3. as comfortable as possible (if you might be wearing it for hours...after all it's a fairly heavy suit of metal)
4. easy to put on (and fast...you can't expect troops inside of their barracks to wear the armor constantly - if they are called up, they have to be able to suit up ASAP)
Nowhere does it say that the armor needs to look good (well, it should not look ugly...it's after all a representation of the organisation you work for - or of yourself if you don't work for someone else), needs decorations (those might weaken it or inhibit its' primary function) or even rank insignia etc. (worst example in DA - Cailans golden suit of armor (it was nice to look at, but unsuited for a battlefield IMHO)...it showed him off (and made him a very enticing target...even stupid darkspawn were able to pick up that he was important -.-)) or needs to show off gender (it should not - in the army (or my inquisition!) everyone is equal and that includes no decorating of ones armor...that's why I don't like the "unique looks" thing they added for companions...makes the companions seem vain, too)

I don't know about frills and...ribbons, but I've always been partial to these sort of outfits for rogues

It's almost as if people want to enjoy looking at their character that they are playing as for 150+ hours. But no, how dare people enjoy something in a source of entertainment.
And this thread isn't asking for boob windows or skintight outfits, so stop using them as examples for why Bioware shouldn't.

*snip*
But that outfit for me looks uni-sex (it reminds me of the Assassin's Creed outfits and those are uni-sex, as female assassins wear the same ones male assassins do)
=> It would look just a little bulkier on most men...(and be cut a little differently, but not to show feminity - but because of necessity, for a better fit)

ps: and it's a beautiful one, too ![]()
