I hate the boob windows. Seriously. Stop doing that, fantasy genre. Unless you want to give the men chest muscle windows in their armor.

If we're getting rid of boob plate, can we also get rid of the "mages wear robes" trope? I just don't get why using magic mean people suddenly don't have the coordination/endurance/intelligence to put on pants.

on topic: Puppy Love, that other thread was stolen from you. As I pointed out towards the end, I actually forgot that you were the one that started it due to..other influences. Anyway, I was one of the ones arguing for more "realistic" (read:plausible) armor, and I'm a little wary of your suggestions. I do get the want for more feminine looking armor, and there have been some great pieces put in this thread, but I'm not one to think that lace and ribbons have a place on the battlefield. If it looks like armor instead of a dress with metal on it, I'm good. But more than that, I think I will mumble incoherently while still playing.

But that outfit for me looks uni-sex (it reminds me of the Assassin's Creed outfits and those are uni-sex, as female assassins wear the same ones male assassins do)

=> It would look just a little bulkier on most men...(and be cut a little differently, but not to show feminity - but because of necessity, for a better fit)

greetings LAX

ps: and it's a beautiful one, too :)

I prefer more unisex anyways, not that GW2 doesn't have it's fair share of more skimpy looking items like so

dnRGXxV.jpg?1

but there's still plenty of unisex armors as well.  I see where the OP is coming from, but ribbons and bedazzels and what have you aren't my thing

I think that's changing in this game, isn't it? I feel like I've seen mage "robes" that look more like fairly casual clothing. Or I had an amazing dream...

Mages can wear armor in DAI.

I can understand wanting armour to have more embellishments or be more stylised, but not feminine. Since I don't really understand what that term means in reference to armour.

I think it means, "I want Bioware to have armours that make me look pretty but don't cross the line of what i feel is exploitive." Problem is some women I know just LOVE the Dalish armour and others are like "Frak AGAIN! why do games make female armours so skimpy!" It is imposible to solve this problem because people want mutually exclusive things.

Oh I know, but I'm just hoping the trend spreads throughout the lands.

I agree More female style armors would be welcome.  They could do like Skyrim and just have a female style per armor not a female only item.

From a purely tactical POV that's bull - being identified is a bad idea (I would love to wear the same armor my troops wear (looks wise)...or non-descript other armor - as long as it's of good quality and enchanted (not everyone needs to know it's a superiour armor, do they), even if it does not look like anything special)

greetings LAX

From a purely modern tactical point of view maybe but with the type of armies Thedas has, leaders needed to be obvious so their soldiers knew who they were by sight.

Plus most of Thedas seems to run off the Nobleman Army model rather than a New Model Army, so the officers are rich nobles who'd want and could afford armour with embellishments to signify who they were.

That said, this is a game and I can understand why people would want their character to have more embellished or stylized armour so they have something nice, cool, or badass to look at.

Those embellishments just shouldn't hinder the usefulness of the armour.

magic overloads the pants wearing section of the brain so that you can not grasp the concept of putting your pants on one leg at a time. This forces you to wear robes, it another reason the mages rebelled. They had pants envy.

I wear kevlar to protect myself, not look pretty. I apply the same logic to my armour in game, fitted yes, frills/bows/ribbons/trinkets no.  I'm pretty open to them producing a DLC frippery wear for those that do like that type of thing....which I won't buy.

In the meantime you can craft some pretty amazing rogue coats/mage armour with diverse looks and colours.

I really hope we move past robes for mages entirely. They just look awful given our current graphical capabilities. If we get to the point where robes can be depicted as actually flowing, flexing, and moving with the body's motions, then they might actually look awesome, especially with a cloak. But currently it just looks like you're wearing a crude elastic rubber tube, and the way the pixels on the skirt of the robe stretch out whenever your character crouches is just embarrassing.

I'm playing a mage right now in DA2, and I downloaded the Item Packs just so I could have a couple of mage armors that weren't robes. I just don't get it.

If they want visually recognisable classes, it's easy: Warriors wear platemail/heavy chainmail. Rogues wear thick leather and britches. Mages wear trenchcoats and light leather/breastplate. A trenchcoat even makes practical sense for a mage, who is more likely to need to carry components, herbs and potions on him.

I don't get you guys - it's armor, its' job is to keep you save from harm and not to make you look pretty -.- (yes, no one wants to look like a coke can or a rusty kitchen appliance...but feminine armor? - come on...todays - female - soldiers don't have pink armor either -.-)

Why would anyone want frills, jewels etc. on their armor - if they don't have a practical purpose (like say runes to make it magical etc.)?

Why do pilots decorate their fighters?

Indeed - well fitted armor shows gender off (without that being the exact purpose - as the better the fit is, the better the level of protection...that's why in the movie "A Knight's Tale" the main character is wounded when he wears the armor of the knight he served (after the guy died) before, because the armor is a bad fit) if you look closely enough (female armor is shaped different...wider hips, different chest area (breasts) - without needing to show that off or accenting it (it serves the fit, it's not there to sexualize women or show off their assets) - are normal, because armor needs to be this way...otherwise the fit is as stated: bad!)

I agree on the mage pants - finally (I don't hate robes...if they are done right...if they look like a dress or something that's just wrong IMHO...but I prefer pants ;) (I think capes look cool, but I would not want one on a battlefield...it might get stuck and hinder my character (!) that's why I do not want one...same for hats (like that ugly looking wanna-be wild-west hat they showed off once...firstly it looks so out of place and secondly it's not practical in the slightest!)

greetings LAX

(Apologies for any boob windows, but that can be fixed with a higher collar or a blouse underneath.

Also, any apologies for picture sizing inconsistencies, that makes ocd people - like myself - crazy. )

Still - maybe they should offer the option...I just don't know.

ps: I already have a problem with Vivienne being all dolled up - her clothes etc. don't look like they are made to fight in (!)

Honestly, I just like pretty things. If I'm going to play something for 150+ hours, I want my eyes to be happy while playing.

It's just an extra incentive for me, not much to do with plausibility.

Sure, gems can be good.  I just find them a bit gaudy myself, but I cannot argue it does not fit the theme.

I remember Shale asking if her gemstones made her look fat. Lol.

DA's usually done a good job of keeping the armors not overly-sexualized.

Its Armour. I do not want any skin showing. I do think females need the chest pieces molded to reflect breasts, and crotch is different in woman with hips versus men or small hipped females.  Almost a difference of 4 to 6 inches in outseam on standard 5 foot 8 inch height.  Steel bikini are just some tropes idea of something or their masterbatory viewing issues. In woman standard blouses are made for a B size cup. if you are larger or smaller the size in stores will not fit well. Have to buy a larger size to fit the breasts, then trim it down on the inseam from the armpits to the hem.  I want armour that is functional in form and use. If anyone wants to decorate theirs go for it, as long as I do not have to decorate mine.  I do think games do not allow for female clothing or armour choices.  When they do, those options are skimpy whorring steel bikini that serves no function.  If we want rape scenes to be stopped being used to move a story along, lets start by getting rid of trashy female clothing...Sorry for my rant.

Uh your kinda wrong about the breast plate. haveing it shaped prevents you from swinging corectly.

idealy a woman needs to bind her breasts or have them flatend in the armor.

Skalgrim has a video about this.

that isnt to say it cant look sexy or but honestly if you want sexy. full or half plate armor isn't for you.

Regarding the Chainmail Bikini. remember Red Sonja works with Conan the original furry underpants guy..she wares more than him and i recall in the original storys her clothing being more akin to tha Dalish armor before Marvel changed it.

Then she was more popular with female readers if i remember corectly.

I counted it under travelling outfits, which was the second part of my sentence to cover any rogue-ish outfits. :)
