It would be nice if someone would explain to me why some kits are so squishy when they are not squishy on paper.

My prime example is the ACA. With 6 ranks in Seeker Swarm specced for DR, it has 40% DR and with 4 ranks in Fitness one has over 1000 shields and a decent chunk of health. That should be able to tank damage nearly as well as a Krogan and better than a TSol. And yet when I play this kit on Gold, I go down from a single hit, it's like playing a human kit, not a tough guy alien.

Why? Why does the ACA look like it should be decently robust but plays so fragile?

1. Do you use the seeker swarms offensively? To detonate BEs?

2. Do you run a no-fitness build?

If your answer to both is yes, the awakened collector is not tanky for most part of a game, because you won't have all 4 swarms around you most of the times (and you have no fitness points). So, in that case, he is the same as a base human character in terms of tankiness.

If your answer to either of them is no, then I guess you are pushing the limits of the character's durability. May be you are over-estimating the durability of the character? - the ACA is tanky but is comparable to human sentinel in terms of durability (depending on the build, one or the other gets the edge).

As for the krogan vs. ACA comparison, note that all krogans have some DR mechanism and can gain additional DR from rage.

You wouldn't believe how fast I go down as AJA on Gold with DR bubble and DR Reave. I feel so much squishier than most other characters, even ones without all that DR. Have yet to figure out why. -_-

Its the big stupid noggin. Enemies keep getting headshots on you:p

IMO fitness is useless for this reason except on characters who are already tough because the % benefit means you get more shields for your points. Being shieldgated in .6 vs .4sec doesn't make much difference. Would rather kill the enemies faster with better powers/passives so they can't shoot me

Quarian Marksman is great example, as well. That has to do with his close-quarter issues, and general lack of damage reduction/croud control/defensive powers.

Quarian marksman has great CC. Pretty hard for enemies to do anything when they all get saber headshot. Only has close quarter issues if you're a bad shot and try to facetank like some lesser race character.

Pretty sure DR scales better on characters with more health and shields. It's less useful on already squishy characters.

Could be a l2p issue for me but I'm having trouble keeping my Shaman from going down. Could be that I didn't max fitness and don't have Barrier up all the time, but he doesn't feel as tanky as he looks by his stats. Edit: the ACA talk below has me thinking maybe he's got a bigger hitbox?

Same here, I have no real clue and find the ACA pretty tanky. Maybe some issues to manage his dodge ? With 4 ranks in fitness, he hasn't a lot more health / shields than a full fitness human or quarian but he is a lot less agile.

So, you're a good shot. Good for you...but most people aren't that accurate. If you miss the shot, you're dead meat. And whilst I almost only play him with the Saber, a lot of folks don't use that gun. I have improved a lot in terms of accuracy, so I don't drop as much with him as I did before. But in Pugs, people have a hard time staying alive with the Marksman...which isn't that surprising.

He probably doesn't even know what being a good shot is like ;)

It's getting the 20 headshot medal halfway through wave 2, earlier if you've mouthbreathing lesser races for teammates who can't kill anything.

My MLG FPS honed marksmanship skill is greater than any of you RPG babbies who rely on crutch space magic

You know man, sometimes I don't understand if you like to spread bullshit around just to poke fun and "roleplay", or if you're really just dense like that ;)

I have tried simply keeping the swarms and never throwing them to keep the 40% DR. I'm not saying I've been playing it as a tank kit, but that the stats say that the kit should be tougher than, say, the HE, a kit I play a lot. The ACA goes down tangibly faster than the HE, often in a single hit.

Same here, I have no real clue and find the ACA pretty tanky. Maybe some issues to manage his dodge ? With 4 ranks in fitness, he hasn't a lot more health / shields than a full fitness human or quarian but he is a lot less agile.

I did try to express that same point you make in my post, I'm not trying to say that the character is a tank, but that although the numbers say 1000+ shields + 40% DR, it feels like 500 shields and zero DR.

It's also absolutely true that the dodge is rotten, it's slower than the jetpack Turian dodge but still sticks you to the scenery.

If you have a Swarm, you might as well throw it at your Dark Channel.

So imo the DR is incidental.  It's a nice perk, but play like you don't have it.

I wonder if the ACA has a larger hitbox?  I've also noticed it feels somewhat squishy when I play it (4 ranks in fitness, 4 Seeker swarms) and, apart from the values being bugged or some offhost space magic occuring, that's the only explanation I can come up with.

In fact, I remember having this discussion about this when the DLC was first released, though I don't think we came up with a definitive conclusion.

She's not a man - she wants us to hear her words in Claudia Black's voice, according to the signature.

Slightly crazy female Quarian ... now where have I come across that before?

Aha! So I'm not the only one to have that impression. Has anyone ever checked the damage numbers in the code?

(Also, apologies if this has been gone over before. I'm new here.   :D )

Is there any other kind of Quarian?

Edit: just thought, do you ever turn ascension mode on? Given how buggy other time limited powers can be off host (Annihilation field, tactical cloak etc) it wouldn't surprise me if the damage penalty of ascension mode sometimes stayed on.

You read my mind because this guy was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the topic!

As someone said before maybe it's that huge domepiece of his or maybe it's just a bug. Also since his BEs feel pissweak,I generally keep the swarms around me and still get dropped left and right,it's sad!

If it´s any consolation, I simply consider ACA bugged. Over 1000 shields and he´s down faster then drell in swimming pool.

I could never figure out why.

I've only really started using the ACA in the past 3 months, but this is how I spec him

http://kalence.drupa...34M54384!AD9B32

I use the swarm for DR, and generally throw out Dark Sphere, immediately followed by DC, shoot for a bit, or detonate DS, depending whether it has reached whatever I was chucking it at. Then follow it up with more shooting until cooldowns are over.
