rpgmaker games aren't all bad, I liked "Super Lesbian Horse RPG."

That one(and RPGMaker games in general, as far as I know) are free. :P I'd probably pass and YT it if the author decided to charge for it. The gameplay in SLH isn't anything that people haven't seen in whatever's been derived from Dragon Quest. It's typically the dialogue and weirdness covered in it that's the selling point.

turn based combat ..turn based combat is a blight on video games

It's not the worst, but it comes with issues that'll toss it out of my preference list. Lack of true defense against enemies when they attack you. Anywhere from Persona to The Banner Saga and Fallout, I couldn't count the number of times that I've died because the enemy threw in a lucky insta-kill move... and because it's turn based, I'm jack out of luck. And that is extraordinarily annoying. Yes, there are defense options, but are generally not useful without a boss telegraphing that it's "charging up" or another reminder that I need to defend .Were this in DD/LoZ/DS or other popular Action RPG, I could just Dodge or Pull a Brave Sir Robin.

There are a couple exceptions: The ones that come to mind are Super Mario RPG(and its sequels/Spin-Offs), and Valkyrie Profile. I greatly appreciate that design philosophy.

I get the hate for Skyrim. It's many things, but I would not describe it as "deep" in characters or storyline.

Skyrim.

I really tried to like this game .RPGS are by far my favorite genre and the Elder Scrolls game were always hyped to be  great rpgs. Never played a Elder Scrolls game expect 1 hour morrorwind when i was young so i thought i give skyrim a try. I bought it on release date for my ps3 and got really bored after some hours. When i reached this mountain and the guys told me i was the chosen one I stopped playing and sold the game. Some time later i decided to give it another try and bough it cheap on a steam sale. The same happended again. After i reached the mountain i got bored and stopped playing. Half a year later, being bored and looking for a new rpg  i tried it again. This time with mods. So i downloaded about 10 "important" mods and again. Got borred. This time i didn't even reach the mountain. Maybe not enough mods? So i spent several hours on nexus, downloaded more than 60 mods and gave it another try. Played till the goddam mountain and talked to these old guys and just couldn't motivate myself to go further.

At least i realized what make a rpgs enjoyable for me. It's not a big world. It's not a great graphic. It's not absoulte freedom to do what you want and have tons of quests .Its the story and the characters and choice that matters.. In my opninion skyrim failed in all of it (maybe it gets better after the mountain but i just couldn't  find it out). And i think that's the reason why I absolutely adore the witcher series.. No other rpg I gave played in the last 15 years  has such a great written story and interesting characters and gives me the opportunity to have a great impact on the world.

Hehe. Your problem is that you tried to complete the main quest. Skyrim was my second Elder Scrolls game, the first being Oblivion and the third being Morrowind. Oblivion and Skyrim have terrible early content.

Morrowind spat me out to the world with an iron dagger and a ''****** off'' in the face. And we had to look at this little book to find out where to go. Then we realized we had to talk to the transport person to take us somewhere. I respect Morrowind a lot for that.

But Skyrim and Oblivion? No. Especially in Oblivion. Ignore the story. Join a guild and do stuff. Oh. And it is absolutely necessary that you find M'aiq. He provides valuable and truthful advice. He's very honest.
