huh?
I think you missed what I was trying to say
Oh I see, I got confuse than.
I read the topic but never saw anyone calling men privileged pigs. Maybe I miss it.

You're right. It's not as if anyone else here disparagingly referred to as a group of people as, I dunno, warriors for social justice or anything.
I referred to one person as an SJW. Unless she has headmates thats not a group of people.
Cassandra's face in that picture from the movie is...well, her nose looks sharper than Cameron Diaz's cheekbones.
Uh no, it means you and your crusades are petty when there are people/places on the planet that lack basic necessities of life, such as clean water.
You're right. The 1960s civil rights movement should feel disgusted with itself that all it did was fight racism in America instead of poverty in the middle east. Just LOL at that MLK dude who thought problems in American were worth solving, amirite?

I'm a Malcolmite myself. El Hajj Malik El Shabazz's message encompassed all people.

I take it English isn't your first language?
I was referencing what someone else said, and the implication I drew from it

You insulted one person as a social justice warrior. You generalized by using the moniker "SJW".

Aw thanks for the reminder. "People are starving so get the f*** off the thread." And what ideals/beliefs do you uphold whilst folks are dying of Ebola? You know, your ideals and beliefs outside of "disparage any identified SJW's because god the internet is boring...."Uh no, it means you and your crusades are petty when there are people/places on the planet that lack basic necessities of life, such as clean water.
And no my crusade is bigger.

I hate this argument so much.
This just means ultimately everyone should be grateful because someone somewhere has it worse.
Now I don't mind calling someone an idiot for saying stupid **** because hell idiots are idiots. But the "why aren't you helping with X, Y, and Z instead of worrying about B." excuse is pretty pointless because it applies to just about everyone. Particularly when people are slinging it from the comfort of their home/library on a damn video game forum. (And yes this applies to myself as well).

I'm pretty sure they would be disgusted with what their movement turned into these days.

MLK actually did something. He fought a problem that actually existed and he was killed for it. He didnt just sit around and whine, he took action and got **** done.

Next time I want to know what my own intentions were, I'll be sure to send you a PM.

While I appreciate your candor I say these things with a clear conscience. When you get down to it people are selfish and mostly care about themselves. The fact is there are people who have it A LOT worse, but not a single thought goes to them while whining over petty **** runs rampant.

How do you know what anyone in this thread is doing IRL to combat sexism? Do you know where I volunteer, for example? Where my money goes? Where my time goes, beyond where I choose to spend some of my leisure time on a weekend over Thanksgiving?
Secondly, there were greater social problems in the 1960s. You've very openly said - in the post I quoted - that it's wrong for someone not to address the absolute worst problem in the third world first. So why does MLK get a pass? Why do the freedom riders get a pass? There were genocides going on at the time.
Next time I want to know what my own intentions were, I'll be sure to send you a PM.
Thankfully, this is the internet, so I can just quote things, and here's the quote where you characterized yourself as insulting someone and used SJW as a generalization and an insult:
"You're sitting here with your internet connection and computer, freely able to express your thoughts because you were able to get an education without being killed by some backwards tribal elder, and you have the gall to tell others they're privileged. You are doing literally nothing to forward the cause of social justice, you are just whining about discrimination suffered by fictional characters, who, if real, wouldnt give a damn anyways.
So yes, I use SJW as an insult, because you are an insult to the very idea of social justice."

So by my interacting in a discussion and voicing my opinion among the dozens of other opinions in this thread....I'm not active in my community and I don't serve to help people? Great logic. Logic based on some fantasy you have of me. Tell me, please, how much do you know of me?
Oh boy. I can't wait until someone hacks into my stuff! That's a good way to get to know someone - especially if you want to threaten them!
No thats not what is going on at all
You cam e into this thread accusing straight men of being uniformly opposed to Cassandra's new look because we are so privileged that we can't handle it when we get average women for LI's
When called out you resorted to self-victimization to attempt to silence us. Then tried to play off our criticisms with how good a person you are irl.
Compounded by strawman upon strawman and finally accusing us of intent to cyber-bully
This thread has degenerated into nothing more than an argument, so I'm going to bow out. You're right, I'm wrong, so I'm going to be wrong elsewhere.

Well of course. If people worried about things they could do diddly squat about all day long they'd drive themselves insane. It's a survival technique. People don't worry about the children practically raised as slaves so we could get cheap electronics. Or uneducated kids living in rags and shacks on farms while they eat their food. And everyone on this board just about is using a device made probably using questionable labor. But see no evil and whatnot.
But bringing up people who have it a lot worse is just deflecting. Of course people have it worse. There's people who have it worse than them and so on and so forth. This is a constant and it won't change. Someone somewhere will always be dealt a crap hand. Our influence over that (generally anyway) is pretty minimal. You might as well say the sky is blue honestly. (Not trying to be a douche saying this. Just saying).
I mean just attack the argument. I see no need to drag in you should be doing X into it.

I can just see some idiot trying to hack the real Amanda Palmer...
I'm sure people already have, but if you think anyone will try to hack you over this conversation, you're a tad paranoid.

But you should stay here and be wrong with us instead of wrong elsewhere with a bunch of people who dont know WHY you're wrong. ![]()

It isn't deflection. It's indignation. It's a lot easier to make a difference than you think. Getting out of one's comfort zone is probably the hardest part. But I'd rather take this to the PMs, because this thread is a cesspool and you're cool.
And seriously can we get a master "I would prefer LIs that look like X" thread. Leliana's not on the table. There should be no reason to call Cassandra ugly for the umpteenth time, and so on.
Everyone could contribute to that and there would be no need for defensiveness or beating this damn horse until it's paste.
Just ignore them, Exile. It's a weak method for silencing people who hold opinions that threaten them. They feel threatened because their positions are being questioned and criticized - and they aren't used to it. So they have this knee jerk reaction that follows a highly systematic way of "arguing" by using social issues outside the realm of discussion as their shield from the actual discussion.
And by "they" I'm referring to you guys in the thread who are doing this - not everyone across the planet.
I am going to quote the well known philosopher Byne as my reply:
Next time I want to know what my own intentions were, I'll be sure to send you a PM.

We retorted our position, you resorted to "you can't see past your own privilege" followed by strawman arguments
that is not a discussion, that is not an argument, that is a ******-poor attempt to silence those you do not agree with, That leads me to believe you aren't interested in either, you want to voice your opinion without any criticism and force the rest of us to go along with it
