I referred to one person as an SJW. Unless she has headmates thats not a group of people.

This just means ultimately everyone should be grateful because someone somewhere has it worse.

 

Now I don't mind calling someone an idiot for saying stupid **** because hell idiots are idiots. But the "why aren't you helping with X, Y, and Z instead of worrying about B." excuse is pretty pointless because it applies to just about everyone. Particularly when people are slinging it from the comfort of their home/library on a damn video game forum. (And yes this applies to myself as well).

MLK actually did something. He fought a problem that actually existed and he was killed for it. He didnt just sit around and whine, he took action and got **** done.

How do you know what anyone in this thread is doing IRL to combat sexism? Do you know where I volunteer, for example? Where my money goes? Where my time goes, beyond where I choose to spend some of my leisure time on a weekend over Thanksgiving? 

 

Secondly, there were greater social problems in the 1960s. You've very openly said - in the post I quoted - that it's wrong for someone not to address the absolute worst problem in the third world first. So why does MLK get a pass? Why do the freedom riders get a pass? There were genocides going on at the time.

When called out you resorted to self-victimization to attempt to silence us.  Then tried to play off our criticisms with how good a person you are irl.

While I appreciate your candor I say these things with a clear conscience. When you get down to it people are selfish and mostly care about themselves. The fact is there are people who have it A LOT worse, but not a single thought goes to them while whining over petty **** runs rampant.

 

Well of course. If people worried about things they could do diddly squat about all day long they'd drive themselves insane. It's a survival technique. People don't worry about the children practically raised as slaves so we could get cheap electronics. Or uneducated kids living in rags and shacks on farms while they eat their food. And everyone on this board just about is using a device made probably using questionable labor. But see no evil and whatnot.

 

But bringing up people who have it a lot worse is just deflecting. Of course people have it worse. There's people who have it worse than them and so on and so forth. This is a constant and it won't change. Someone somewhere will always be dealt a crap hand. Our influence over that (generally anyway) is pretty minimal. You might as well say the sky is blue honestly. (Not trying to be a douche saying this. Just saying).

 

I mean just attack the argument. I see no need to drag in you should be doing X into it.

And seriously can we get a master "I would prefer LIs that look like X" thread. Leliana's not on the table. There should be no reason to call Cassandra ugly for the umpteenth time, and so on.

 

Everyone could contribute to that and there would be no need for defensiveness or beating this damn horse until it's paste.

They feel threatened because their positions are being questioned and criticized - and they aren't used to it. So they have this knee jerk reaction that follows a highly systematic way of "arguing" by using social issues outside the realm of discussion as their shield from the actual discussion.

And by "they" I'm referring to you guys in the thread who are doing this - not everyone across the planet.

that is not a discussion, that is not an argument, that is a ******-poor attempt to silence those you do not agree with,  That leads me to believe you aren't interested in either, you want to voice your opinion without any criticism and force the rest of us to go along with it
