You know I'm getting kinda sick of the whiny teenager-esque statements on this forum. For goodness sake the graphics could be top notch but that doesnt mean a damn thing if the gameplay sucks. A polished turd is still just that. Games developers arent going to get everything 100%. Ever. Even if they ressurected Michealangelo himself! They are not trying to be The Witcher They are trying to be Dragon Age.

Stop putting so much need into how shiny it is and make sure they deliver on a good story and exploration system. Thats what's key here not how shiny the armour looks.

Given how little of DAO is making it into DAI, I'm not entirely sure about this.

Is that how you respond to all criticism? "Hey, nothing's perfect!" That's a pretty defeatist attitude to have in life.

And I don't think Dragon Age is intended to be characterized by weird-looking character models...

I disagree that they don't look human. But the hair could be better. Most of the companions look really good.

It has already been said like 28372837289372837298372983729837298732732084 times.

Which means that a lot of people feel it strongly.  Perhaps it should be something Bioware should be paying attention to.  I've looked at the screenshots and available material, and for the most part I agree with the OP.  Most of the newer character don't look good.  They look more like the hybrid offspring of a Free Your Mind fashion pop video and a style-over-content anime production.

Well, one good thing is: My Inquistor will surely be the best-looking gal around, that's a plus! Maybe we get some ingame-options to solve the beauty-issues?

"Hey Cole, could you grow that dead animal on your head a little longer so it covers your face? And Cassandra, please wear that full-helmet all time, the kids get scared! Yes, even at night! Where is Sera? Anders Plastic Surgery Clinic, getting a lip-job?? Okay, understood! And please Vivienne, I told you not to leave the castle-dungeons, and LEAVE THAT SACK ON YOUR HEAD!!!!"

In case you haven't noticed over the last decade-ish, big fantasy RPGs don't exactly grow on trees. It also doesn't help that when Bioware took one road (namely "Let's see how many groups we can appeal to at the same time"), the Witcher developers took another (namely "Let's do this thing that we do, and do it really well"), which gained them a lot of new eyes (and new fans) around the time DA2 was shoved out to market half-baked and promptly cost Bioware/EA a lot of good will.

Given that the release windows were pretty close, people naturally compared them. It's likely going to happen with DAI and W3, even though the latter's been delayed.

Well I haven't played Witcher series but what I have understood is that they aren't very close to DAI. There is no CC and you don't have own character, you only have set character and his story to play. You seem to travel a lot alone? when in DAI you are always surrounded by people.

I guess genre of the storytelling is same but I'd rather compare Witcher to Assassin Creed and Deus Ex: HR than DAI  Maybe it's difference in focus though.

Oh, and I cannot wait to see all the troll-threads opened that tell everyone how much better Witcher 3 is.

Now I will enjoy both games, I am pretty sure about that already, but I already arm myself to dfend DAI against the phalanx of hipster-fans that will hype Witcher3 into heaven, no matter what...

Oh, and on a side-note: Yeah, I actually consider Triss and Yennefer much more attractive than the entire DAI-cast. A pity really...but maybe it's just screenshot-issues and in-game they all look a bit more appealing...

In that respect, they aren't - but what CDPR did really well is making a good story for TW2, and making a plot where choices really matter. Where DA2 kind of..you know. Did what it did.

Yeah, same. Pretty much all of them look great except for the hair. That being said, hair is and always has been BioWare's greatest weakness. It's kind of expected. Your comment is especially funny because out of the three DAI companions he put up, only one is human, the others are an elf and a spirit/corpse/thing.

I think the new companions look like people. People that have gone through **** and have lead lives. And, make no mistake, I never felt that way about just the appearances of Leliana and Alistair. They had to *convince* me they lead lives. It's why VA is so damn important, because for so long, a lot characterization had to be done through it.

What bothers me most is how the returning characters barely even look like the same person. Cassandra, for instance, had a beautiful oval face with sharp eyes. Now she has a square-jawed, rectangular face with excessively evil eyebrows. She looks more like Aveline than Cassandra. And Varric... I recognized Bianca before I recognized Varric.

I'm sorry, I thought this was the "Feedback & Suggestions" forum where people are supposed to express their thoughts about the game.  Am I wrong?

And yeah, I do plan on voting with my wallet. Don;t worry your pretty little head about that.

I don't know where you got that I want them all to be perfect-looking. My probem is they barely look human.

Except the companions in DA:O looked much better. This is a matter of design, not graphics

Spoiler

I will never understand how you people can post screenshots like that and then say that the characters in DA:I look worse than in DA:O. Do we have different perceptions of reality or something? Leliana looks like a plastic doll compared to Sera if you ask me and Morrigan is even worse. Don't get me wrong I love them as characters and they look the way everyone in Origins did, so they fit the style of their game just fine, but compared to DA:I they simply look bland. The faces in DA:I Show much more character and diversity, they look far more realistic and human to me than those from Origins.

Different engine contributes some and I think that Varric's change can also be explained by him growing older. But Cass has wider jaw in the concept art too so I think they redesigned her. I like the change but it took sometime to get used to.

If it's difference between looks in previous game to DAI I find Cullen's change biggest. He have go through 3 of those now, DAO Cullen in my opinion actually look closer to DAI Cullen than DA2 one. It seems like his face model was redesigned too.

In other hand I think Leliana looks better than ever. She looks just awesome!

So that means they have to continuously reproduce the same game over and over again Call of Duty / Final Fantasy style? Do you really want a game full of supermodels? I dont I want realism.

People need to judge this game on its own merits not what went before it. I think Origins was a great game. i think Dragon age 2 was a good game. I think Inquisition has the potential to be a great game. But I wont know until I play it. I care more about what characters have to say than which side their hair is parted on.

I like how one of those pics from Origins is actually a mod and you didn't dare to post a pic of characters like Oghren or Sten.. But who am I to judge, hmm?

Perhaps the beauty of design can also be reflected in how they complement the characters personalities.

I like how DAI's companions have these little flaws and features that add character - Cass has sharper features, which give her a very striking appearance, Sera has this rounded face and full lips which make her look cute, Josephine has little marks on her face which breaks up the monotony of skin, Cullen has a small scar above his lip which gives a sense of him having actually lived and fought in the world, and Blackwall has a more mature look to him (and is the first companion we've had with a beard), rather than being aged down to look more appealing.
So, I'm sorry if they're not attractive to you OP, but I think Bioware went for something more than 'attractive' and, in my opinion, they succeeded.

In my own experience, when I played TW2, I got bored shortly after arriving at Flotsam, and just never picked it up again. Whereas DA2 I must have played at least four times, if not more.
So I never did get all the praise the Witcher received, and all the hate DA2 got. Guess it's just different tastes.

I get that beauty is in the eye of the beholder or whatever, but given the immense dislike of the characters' appearance, I think its safe to say that they went the wrong direction.

Were you on the Bioware boards when Dragon Age: Origins came out? Did you make a topic on how the characters were "too darn attracive"? If not, it probably wasn't a problem for you. I doubt you even gave their appearance a second thought. Meanwhile, there's tons of us who hate these character designs. What does that tell you?

Really? Flotsam bored you, but not the endless cut-and-paste dungeons and waves and waves of samey enemies in every area of DA2? We have very different tastes indeed.

Do you really want a game full of supermodels? I dont I want realism.

If you think it's too darn uncanny that your companions could be all normal-looking people without alien features, then I think your biggest problem with this game would be how uncanny it is how your party of 6 has evenly divided straight, gay, and bisexual members. That's a pretty amazing statistical phenomenon, you know.

I can understand that you don't like the character models, but I think calling them 'barely human' is a bit too much. The companions look perfectly fine save for the hair (of some at least, it's not Bioware's strong side). Some of them are more beautiful than others and some are more plain than others but isn't that to be expected?

Personally I don't think any of the companions are outright ugly by real world standards (other than maybe Cole due to his corpse-like appearance but that's deliberate because of what he is). At worst they're normal or bland looking.

If they looked like Beauty (the image the devs released of a male inquisitor that the CC hadn't been kind to) I could understand all the complaints of 'alien features' and 'barely human' but they don't. I think they get scrutinised more because we're so used to game characters being super-models.
