Not sure if this is the right section for this, but every time I install a mod, I don't know where to install it to, so I put them all in the AddIn Folder, or bin_ship. But none of them seem to work, and even though it says I've installed them on the DAUpdater, they don't show up on either of my characters. I also tried downloading the DA Mod Manager and that hasn't worked either because every time I open it within 2 seconds it says it's stopped working when I haven't even used it. I can't download the manager from nexus because I need to be logged in, and I cannot afford a subscription at the moment so the mod downloading is going terribly. Can someone help me?

Do you need to use the DAUpdater to make the mods work?

okay, you must be doing it all wrong. IF the mod is a dazip file, use daupdater.exe to install it. daupdater is located in Dragon Age/bin_ship folder
IF you are using an override mod.. that goes into the packages/core/override in documents.
You cannot just put mods in the addin folder because they have to be listed in the addins xml file also unless they are an override type mod. The daupdater.exe puts the files in the proper places (dazip) and adds the mod to your game list of installed mods.

But it says "installed" on the Updater and when I play the game I can't find it anywhere.

Also, the Mod Manager doesn't work no matter how many times I try to open it.

launch your game and look under the downloadable content and then installed content list... Is the mod listed and is it checked (enabled)?

I don't know how to get to that part though.

Another thing, some mods require that you have to install before starting a new game. Some armor mods will not show up if you have more than a few of them installed (not the kind you add with console command) but the ones that spawn into inventory.

I installed the mode lancerlot_ss_divine_v1_1.dazip and it wasn't in my installed content section, but admittedly I didn't close the updater before doing so.

So I'm installing them in the wrong place, but half the time it doesn't say in the description where to zip it to, I have 3 folders for the same game, one in my Users under Bioware, and one under Origin Games.

Sorry, I've never modded anything in my life and I just don't know where to put things, where are the .dazip files zipped to?

After installation, the dazip archive can be stored anywhere, or even deleted, though I personally do not recommend the latter, as modders often remove their work from 'the wild'.
When installed, the files contained in a dazip archive land in the 'My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\AddIns\' and 'My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\data\' directories. (Those paths may differ slightly in nomenclature, depending on OS.)
It's very very important to read and follow any installation guidelines provided by a mod's creator, at least and until one understands the why, hows, and ramifications of doing otherwise. I'm familiar with the mod that you are attempting to install (having just added it to my own game). There is some excellent, well written, and specific install information included in the ReadMe... I followed those instructions exactly, and when I view my installed Downloadable Content (as described by Luna above), I see this:

And when I open Wynne's spells, down at the bottom of the page, I find this:

I'm uncertain if leaving the DAUpdater window open and then starting the game as you've described causes a failed install, since that's not something I've ever tried. I suspect that it may be inadvisable, since DAUpdater will refuse to install a mod while the game is running. *shrug*
And finally, add my (loud) voice to the chorus of 'Don't use Nexus Mod Manager!!!', as any mod that was released pre-NMM (which is the bulk of the DAO mods available) was not packaged with that installer in mind.

I have literally just installed it, went into my game and no mod showed up at all. I put it in the AddIns folder though.

Again, do NOT put any mods into the Addins folder yourself. Ever. Don't do it. It won't work. Ever. The only things that can put mods (DAZIPs) into the Addins folder is either DA Updater or DA Modder. However, if something requires a mod to be placed in the Override folder, you can do that yourself, or DA Modder will do it (I don't use DA Updater, as I prefer DA Modder).
I have used Lancerlot's Divine School since I got DAO for the PC in 2012. If it is installed correctly using DA Updater or DA Modder (as LDS is a DAZIP), it will show up in the DLC section of the main menu as Luna and theskymoves have shown. You will be able to see it immediately in the "Talents" section for any mage. It's a decent mod, particularly the top row of spells.

You only put a mod in the Override folder if it says to do so on the mod's description page. NEVER put a DAZIP into the Override folder. It will not work. Usually, anything that is not a DAZIP will go into the Override folder.
So, here's an extremely general guide that should work in most situations (although you should always read the instructions for every mod):
DAZIP: use DA Updater or DA Modder to install
Not a DAZIP: put it in the Override folder.

I usually extract them out as soon as I get them and then put them in the DAUpdater, as it won't allow me to drag and drop?

Huh? Okay, when you download a mod from the Nexus or wherever, it will always be zipped in some fashion (RAR, 7Zip, etc.). Unzip the file using your program of choice (I use 7Zip). After that, look inside the mod folder. If you have a file inside that is listed as a DAZIP (e.g., SnarkyCat.dazip), then you MUST install it by using either DA Updater or DA Modder (DA Modder can be done by a drag-and-drop. I'm not sure about DA Updater, as I don't use it.). If there are additional files inside the mod folder that are not DAZIPs but are required for the mod to work, chances are they will need to be dragged and dropped into your Override folder.
If when you look inside a mod folder and no DAZIP file is present, then the files probably solely need to be dragged and dropped into your override folder. Mods that go exclusively into your Override folder will not show up in the DLC menu in game. You will actually have to look for the mod in-game. An example of this would be a head morph for Alistair. You would need to physically go find Alistair and see if his head looks different. Any and all DAZIP mods, however, will show up in the DLC menu in game and must be "Enabled" in order for them to work.
Installation information for each mod should be present on the mod's description page or in its readme. Make sure that you read the installation instructions for each mod.
