PS- Anyone else a little...let's say uneasy, about being a necromancer as this leader of the inquisition? On the one hand, it's probably going to be my favorite play style, but it does feel odd that nobody would have a problem running around and being lead by a necromancer. The two previous games just ignored if you were a blood mage, but if you were a Warden, you only had one other Warden under you for the majority of the game (The Wardens also have a reputation for doing whatever is necessary to win against the blight). The 2nd game, you're already an apostate, so it's not that far of a step.
I could end up being wrong, but I'm fairly certain that in contrast to most fantasy settings, necromancy won't be inherently evil but rather neutral even though it's centered around death. It also won't have the same stigma and drawback of blood magic in being inherently tied to dealing with demons and a high risk of possession.

Also ask yourself if you want to bash walls yourself or prefer Cassandra, Blackwall or IB to do it for you.
I have this weird fixation on wanting all DA protagonists to have different classes on my imports myself.

I always pick the class that goes well with the history, in my case a mage. But I usually find mages a little bit boring in every game except DA. In this game when I play a mage I feel like some kind of pariah, some kind of..... X-men? I like a game that recognizes this choice in particular.
But, gameplay wise, rogue is the best for me. Why? you can change between melee and ranged combat and be lethal with bow and daggers. They can move swiftly, so it doesn't really matter if they are soft, if you know how and when to move, you won't die. Also,in DAI you can have 3 very different specs and one of them (tempest) sound a lot like an hybrid between mage and rogue, something that sound new to me.
...............I don't usually like warriors... ![]()

For me it wasn't so hard. I always want to be a Dwarf and they can't roll mage. Add that I enjoy being quick to move around and voila, a Rogue. My hardest choice is my specialisations.
It's funny because in most RPGs I am terrible with Rogues/Thieves/Sneaky dagger classes. I never execute them well and prefer to go for a tanky Warrior or ranged glass cannon Mage. But in Dragon Age I feel right at home with them.

Well if you want better Grenade action (better damage for grenades like the Jar of bees) or potions then Tempest is one to go for.
If you're looking for more damage focused on single target then you will want Assassin.
Artificer is best for the ability to place traps so you can always create new strategies by placing traps and lure enemies into them or place traps near the enemies while they're distracted.

For me it's between Tempest and Artificer. I both like chucking grenades and placing traps. I would like to see Bioware show a sample video of both to give us a feel of them.

Tempest has a passive that increases grenade damage? Is that speculation or is that confirmed?

That's a good devil's advocate for a necromancer to say, but it doesn't seem apparent based on the actions of those in the universe. First, mages in general seem to already have a stigma attached to them where people fear and revile them anyway.
SPOILER (Based on Gameplay Footage)
Even Lelianna in one of the gameplay previews said "nobody should have this power". Now in that same gameplay video, it shows Dorian's former mentor using necromancy on his son, and Dorian being appalled by it. So if an experienced Mage is appalled by it, I fail to see how normal people, or non-mages in your group are just dandy with you doing the same thing on a regular basis.

Am I the only one that's completely stumped when it comes to what kind of Inquisitor to go with? Granted, I'm horribly indecisive when it comes to things like this in general.
Warrior type classes have been my go-to class forever whenever I'm starting a first playthrough of a new game. It's a role I'm comfortable with and it feels like a "safe" way to go about the first playthrough and learn the game. HOWEVER, this time around everything I've seen thus far makes it look horribly uninteresting in comparison to the other two classes. The Rogues and Mages get a lot of fun stuff like traps, stuns, AOE effects and spells, throwing around caltrops and fighting like f***ing Gandalf. Warriors get to.... roleplay as Scorpion? Then there's also the fact that both Cassandra and Iron Bull are quite high on my list of which party members I'll most likely use most of the time.
The recent gameplay footage has really sold me on Rogues, but I just feel somehow... insecure in picking somebody squishy as the main character. I've played through Origins and DA2 multiple times on nightmare, so I suppose this is quite silly. The Inquisitor being a Rogue is also a problem because as with the Warrior, I have two other Rogues that I'll probably use a lot in Varric and Sera.
That leaves the Mage which would have the same problem of being squishy, but beyond that the only other negative I'm coming up with that it wouldn't be a trusty, boring ol' Warrior. In terms of party members there wouldn't be much conflict either, as Dorian is really the only one I can see myself bringing along with any regularity for playthrough #1, but even he is behind the other four that I've already mentioned in the pecking order.
Decisions, decisions.
TL;DR:
I'm an indecisive nerd.
Blame multiplayer.
i'm going to play as a warrior, but all the classes do look fun. i'd have to try them all out to be sure.

For now I'm assuming Tempest will have a Passive to improve Potions and Grenades due to the description saying Tempest is a Alchemist Skill tree for Rogues.

I hope you are right. That will make Sera even more lethal. ![]()
edit: I keep posting in this thread, but I never actually answered the OP's question... I agree with Ashelsu. Play as a KE so that you don't duplicate the powers of the party members you want to travel with the most, while still being able to take hits without folding like a chair.

I should clarify that I'm not really expecting to be convinced one way or another or to have you guys pick for me per se, though I appreciate the replies. I've just been agonizing over this for quite some time and needed someplace to vent so it's not just bouncing around in my head. Figured it would also be interesting to see if there are others with the same dilemma and just discuss the topic in general.
Knight Enchanter does seem to stand out as the most logical option for me, though... but Necromancer looks so cool too! And both dual wield and archery Tempests and Artificers. And Champion would be like putting on an old pair of lucky underwear...

Be a Knight Enchanter Mage.
In DA:I you cannot swap your weapons in combat and there are only 8 talent slots. So the whole notion of "well rogue can swap between bows and daggers" goes right out of the window.
The Knight Enchanter can summon a Spirit Blade, much like a Bound Sword from Skyrim in one hand and uses a staff on the other, much like how Gandalf fights. Patrick Weekes said this on Twitter.
Consequently, the Knight Enchanter does not have to worry about swapping weapons at all. You can choose to tank or choose to be ranged.
Meaning, you will have all the flexibility in the world which is something no other class and class specialization can say.
As such, you have the utmost flexibility in picking and choosing your followers. At most, you need one rogue to do the lockpicking and trap disabling.

I was actually torn between warrior and mage for a very long time... it's only recently that I decided to go with mage, so I get where you're coming from. It all looks like so much fun! xD The good thing about the companions sharing our abilities and specs is that we can always switch to them if we feel like experiencing a different class for a while...

If they brought back Duelist and allowed Rogues to use a regular and small weapon then I would consider Rogue.
As of now, Knight Enchanter Mage and Sword and Shield Striker Warrior are what I am considering.
Perhaps I'll do two play-throughs: 'Easy Mode' with a Trevelyan Warrior and 'Hard Mode' with a Adaar Mage.

I'm set on a warrior, seeing as my canon Warden was a rogue and canon Hawke a mage. Symmetry, y'know.
What I'm stumped on is what specialization I'll go with.

I kinda want to try the rogue archer first with the assassin specialization just to try something different, and see where it leads me.

I was completely unsure of what class to play first as well. I changed my mind dozens of times over the weeks until it finally hit me. Dwarf weapon and shield, Champion, Inquisitor.
This will have excellent physical defense and a nice magic defense racial. Being tough as nails and having no major weaknesses sounds like the best way to go for me.

I feel your pain, because everytime I'm sure I know which class to play Bioware shows more gameplay for the other two classes and I love all three of them. I want to be a mage because all of the magic spells look beautiful and Necromancer
and I like making things explode , But then the rogue's combat looks so fast paced and deadly, Then I thought I wasn't going to play a warrior but unlike the first two games the weapons for the warriors look all wonderful and big and shiny and they're the main ones we've seen being costumized so damn.
And then don't get me started if I choose Warrior or Rogue because then I have to decide between "dual-wield or Archery" for the rogue and "two-handed or sword and shield" for a warrior"
arghh!!!! curse you Bioware for all these wonderful choices
