So I have an interior area with a placed npc (which happens to be a dragon). It has an important conversation.

It is there in the toolset, and 95% of the time in a play through, but every once in a while, it is just not there.

I'm not sure why. It has no scripts attached to it or any thing. It's in a room by itself.

any ideas?

The bugs that happen only % of times are the worst. If he was never there there would be more to work on I think :/. Does he have no scripts at all? No conditions on when to appear? Nothing?

these random bugs are driving me crazy. It happened to me once on a play through a few months back. The dragon was just gone. I checked in the toolset and it looked fine, so I loaded a new game and he was there. It has never happened to me again. And then the first time someone else plays through, bam.

he has just the default creature scripts. I placed him in the area, not spawned with a script. He's alone in a room with no baddies around. neutral faction.

Does it have a unique tag? If not, a script could be hiding or destroying it instead of the intended target.

You didn't give it the 'hide in plain sight' feat by any chance? :)

It does have a unique tag, though I may change it just for kicks.

No to the HiPS. I got excited for a minute on this one.

Just throwing a few ideas out: did you rescale it? Is there enough room around it when the character enters the area?

It's in a pretty big castle room with space to walk around. I don't think that's it, though maybe I'll scale it down just a little.

well, I never figured out what the problem might be. It's really hard to fix something when you can't reproduce the problem. I'm just going to add a conversation with some kind of conditions. "What? She's not there? Maybe you should look again." and spawn the creature in. Problem solved.

thanks for the ideas everyone.

If you're going to go that route, you could do it seamlessly by adding a bit in the On Client Enter for the area to check for the existence of the creature, and spawn it in place if it doesn't exist, or add the same conditional action into the conversation you mention, without having to actually add dialogue that addresses it.

This is another reason why I would recommend simply not placing the creature at all, but spawn them in with the OnClientEnter script (with a conditional to prevent it from happening on subsequent zone-ins).
