I usually play on Normal but looks to me I will have to start with casual and then later on go back on Normal once I'm used to the combat. ![]()

The vids are very long, and combing through them to come up with a coherent synthesis of the gameplay mechanics is an incredible exercise in aggravation.
Its true that some of the videos especially if put together would take a considerably time to as you say “combing through” for the desired information.
However if you are willing to put down the time to. So to say “put all the pieces together” you get a pretty clear picture, of curse there are many unknown factors and no clear documentation of the exact functions.
There's no concise compilation that gives us an exhaustive tree of the party mechanics, the actual relative merits of damage vs. burst because we have almost 0 documentation on the unique rules that apply to enemies, etc.
I will not argue against this.
But let me say it like this. At least I personally feel that I have gathered enough information from what information that has been released to feel secure in starting on the hardest difficulty. =)

I will probably go with nightmare and with friendly fire on for good measure. I doubt it can be more masochistic than DS. ![]()

If I'm being honest, I kinda feel like DA:I is going to be easier than the first two games. And I always want my first playthrough to be challenging. I'm one of those people that treats their very, very 1st as a test-run. A throwaway game. I'm not against getting relatively far and then totally completely restarting because I levelled wrong or missed something. DA:I isn't going to have that, as far as I can tell. So! I'm jumping in head first! :3

I did this difficulty for the Grim Reaper achievement, man, screw that.

...in all honesty, my first playthrough will probably be on Casual. :S

As with the other DA installments I'll play this on the hardest possible difficulty - Nightmare with friendly fire. And as with the other games I'll probably play until I'm level 8/9 and then restart. This doesn't bother me and it gives me the chance to get a feel for the game both in gameplay mechanics and in story/RP terms. And then it's roflstomp time. ![]()

I played through DA2 on Nightmare. If I had more free time I might do this one too, but I have a lot less free time than I used to, so I suspect I won't be doing that here.
That said, I heard there'll be difficulty achievements, which severely ups the chance of me doing this.

The only Dragon age I tried on nightmare, was dragon age II, and after that I swear to myself that I won't touch this difficulty again on DA series.

I remember trying to play Mass Effect 2 on the hardest difficulty and I broke a controller. Apparently they dont mesh well with concrete walls! Anywho, I'll probably take a crack at it after completing it on a lower difficulty and ordering a backup controller from the store. ![]()

I am. Did it in DA:O and DA2
Though, in DA2 it was just plain stupid while in DA:O it was actually fun.
Also did it with all the Mass games.
I always tend to start games off on the hardest difficulty setting...for me, it makes the game more fun.

I love using all the tools at my disposal to survive, especially when I have no idea what I'm facing.
With meticulous combat management and proper usage of crafting, I imagine Nightmare wont be so bad.
I expect a lot of deaths as I adjust, but once I get going I'm gone. Ill leave my Dead Is Dead masochistic playthroughs for later.

I'll begin in normal and increase difficulty little by little. Nightmare should my third or fourth playthrough and only if the friend's fire won't affect your team. This game indeed would be not playable in that case (poison, magic and so one)

I would have to say that since the elements of the RPG that attract me the most would be story and story-driven elements, I always tend to have my first play-through on casual or normal.
Similar to my own personal "tutorial" stage as it were; not because of hand holding or anything, but since the story is the element I wish to explore the most, I tend to want to keep the game play balanced along with the story so as to not turn into a button-mashing mosh fest on my keyboard (PC!) franticly trying to remember which skill I assigned to which button.
I reserve the nightmare difficulty more as a "Let's see just how good I've gotten" at this.

I'll start on Nightmare. As always.
If I get my ass handed to me (and I probably will), I'll just learn from it and push through.
I did it for both:
DA:O - horrible beginning, than cakewalk once I understood the mechanics, especially threat mechanics
DA2 - took me a few hours until I realized the mechanics of the wave combat, before that I was in denial because I didn't think you can actually design something so blatantly stupid, so I chose to ignore enemies materializing from thin air before my eyes ( I just couldn't understand how can enemies come from a direction that I obviously cleared 10 minutes ago)
DA:I seems to be challenging but fair (unlike DA2) - so Nightmare will probably be both frustrating and rewarding - just like I want it to be.

Nein. I shall play on Normal to absorb the story and the characters, and the world they inhabit. Nightmare will come later.

I just prefer to have everything on paper and particularly for it to be numeric so that I can sit down, actually think about the builds on an math-y basis, and go from there.

almost first 2 pages everyone was calling me insane Id say reading responses so far it is about 50/50. I bet in realilty about less then 10 percent of dragon age gamers will play nightmare first try.
