almost first 2 pages everyone was calling me insane Id say reading responses so far it is about 50/50. I bet in realilty about less then 10 percent of dragon age gamers will play nightmare first try.
I'd say less than 5% will play Nightmare at all.

Was wondering how many people besides myself were going to completely start off playing on nightmare ?In my experience all dragon age games in the past have been not too difficult for me expect for DA2. DA2 was a chore for me because of the waves of enemies that surround combined with friendly fire made it just not fun for me to play on nightmare as origins did. I love challenges but good ones and with the changes to the combat system this time around I am very excited as this will be my first bioware game where I plan to start off on the highest difficulty settings. After my first playthrough I will try a solo nightmare run.So how many of you out there are planning something similar to what I am going to do?P.S this is my first post ever, but been lurking the forums for 2 years now.
It was my intend. Ive beaten both DA games on nithgmare for first playthrough. Just hope, Bioware wouldnt screw up balance, like they did for DA2.
It's kind of funny that this thread is a brag thread. I guess I am the only one here that can't do nightmare.
I gave up with nightmare modes. They were kinda fun on the ME games (insanity) but I found it it terribly boring and unsatisfactory on Dragon Age II, but at the end, they only serve to get some achievements and brag about it on forums lol.
I thought on trying inq on hard first...but I'm thinking on changing it to normal. Now, casual...I'm too proud to fall in that lol.
Nightmare mode? CHECK
Friendly Fire Enabled? CHECK
No Heal Potions allowed? CHECK
You're going to have a really bad time.

I am in the same boat. I am pretty good at ME and can play those on insanity without much effort. While I enjoy the combat for DA:O and DA2 upping the difficulty just didn't seem satisfying enough for me to spend the effort to get better at the game. Inquisition could potentially change that for me, the combat looks satisfying to play (I could be wrong still). I may actually be able to beat this game on nightmare, it just won't be on my first or my second play through.
I'm still debating with myself on whether to start on nightmare or hard.
As with the other DA installments I'll play this on the hardest possible difficulty - Nightmare with friendly fire. And as with the other games I'll probably play until I'm level 8/9 and then restart.
I do something like that too, especially when the game lacks documentation. Did it for Origins. DA2 turned out to be a trap with the Wraith though, I never expected a gear check from Bioware
Didn't think they had it in them.
I'll start off on Hard. It's difficult enough for me already.
Currently playing through Origins on Hard and can't beat the Harvester. I'll do that DLC last when I am lvl 30+ and hopefully overpowered. Solo'd the With Hunt boss though (which was like the easiest DLC haha) on Hard

The Wraith? I don't get the reference.

The Rock Wraith (I think).
I mean the deeps roads boss, the Ancient Rock Wraith. It's as a stereotypical gear check as it gets on Nightmare. Get lightning resistance you win. If not you lose.

Oh, yeah, that was a bit of a LOL moment for me. Though to be fair I figured I was probably screwed when the regular prophane showed up and almost TPK me with their long-range lightning.
Funny, I don't really remember the rock wraith being an issue on Nightmare. I'd take 100 profane and wraiths with no electrical resistance than I would 10 Assassins or Templar Hunters ![]()
I'll definitely start on hard. Depending on how much I like/dislike the new barrier "not healing but totally basically is the same thing" mechanic, I might switch down to normal.
For my later runs it wasn't hard as well, it's just that till then every boss was more or less easy. Bone pit dragon check, various minibosses in kirkwall check, big spider check, deep roads dragon check. Then I reached the Wraith and I thought I was playing a different game. It had phases, aoe lightning attacks, could 2shot me and had a trillion health. It was out of character compared to the rest of the encounters.
Then I learned the game and killed it in 15 seconds. It's so satisfying to see it going into the adds phase and dying almost instantly.

I thought assassins and TH's were jokes. Just takes one fireball or burst arrow to drive them out of stealth. They were aggravating before CCCs because of their obscene amounts of health bloat, though. That was the hard part of DA2 - the portion of nightmare before you could CCC things into oblivion.

Before I had a handle on the mechanics, the RW drove me insane with it's telegraphed AOE melee attack that did not give me a sense of its range. Drove me bonkers.
Before the patch nerf'd the assassin, it was just magical to see it get nuked in seconds.
You're going to have a really bad time.
Probably...

You must like leather and S&M too
Welp..

What sort of insanity is this?
The only way to play...

All kidding aside, I had the most fun on DA2 in Nightmare mode. Felt like a real challenge.

Ooh yes, I remember killing Friedrich...
My first couple of playthroughs will be on normal just to enjoy the story and get as much of the dialogue as possible, then I will do a playthrough on nightmare.
I start with hard mode (Friendly fire disabled)
If is too difficult I will change to normal...
Nightmare not at the first playthrough, normally at the first run I want enjoy the game...
first thing that came to mind when I saw the title was are you nuts?
