Mind blast ftw...as soon as the stealth dude goes invis, run near the smoke cloud, wait a sec, and blast him.Funny, I don't really remember the rock wraith being an issue on Nightmare. I'd take 100 profane and wraiths with no electrical resistance than I would 10 Assassins or Templar Hunters

Hard on first playthrough. Then Nightmare. Then Nightmare solo. Then Nightmare solo + no potions/resting.
I will cry a lot.

I was forced to do my first playthrough of DA2 on nightmare since I wanted the friendly fire. (Dropping fireballs on your own party members should NOT be a viable tactic, unless you gave them specific fire-resist gear).
I figure that if I managed to play unpatched DA2 on nightmare, then doing the same with DA:I should not be too difficult.

So, yeah, apparently there *are* achievements for Hard and Nightmare.
Guess I'm rolling that Nightmare run first-off after all XDD

As strange as it may sound, I can only think tactically and not die immediately if I'm playing solo without the aid of companions. Bringing them into the mix just complicates things and trying to be tactical with them included is just asking for a painful death in under five seconds; because of this, I let the AI do its thing for companions whilst I worry about my own PC.
It's always been this way for as long as I can remember; in fact, in no DA game have I ever bothered using tactics for any character except my own. Now, as for why I can be tactical for my own character and not others basically boils down to how my brain works. I'm perfectly capable of figuring out how I want my character to fight and how I should distribute points and such, but when it comes to companions, my brain goes "ERROR, too much information to process at this time. Please be advised, attribute points distribution and tactical gameplay is limited to personal character only."
It's unfortunate, but there it is. I can still enjoy games, though, so I guess that's all that really matters.

This might be a good idea actually. Usually I wait for awhile for higher difficulties, but it might make my first experience all the better.

For my first playthrough I will trudge through on Hard then move up or down as needed. Eventually I will get through on Nightmare, just not on the first one.
Of course I never did Witcher 2 on Insanity, a bit too much for me... really hate the idea of a permanently dead character.

Definitely going to play my first (and all subsequent) playthroughs on Nightmare.
I am really hoping for a good quality challenge with the new combat encounter system and balance.

I am going to go for hard difficulty, might try Nightmare eventually but not at first.

If there are seperate achievements for hard and nightmare, I might as well start with hard.

Yep. I usually pick the hardest difficulty on the first playthrough of any game, especially if they have separate achievements for level of difficulty, that way I knock two or more achievements out of the way at once.

Seeing today's twitch being played on Hard made me feel slightly better about my chances on Nightmare without potions and knockouts. Though I didn't appreciate them saying they'd probably be raising the difficulty more though.

Nightmare will tear you several new holes in your head, I think a good starting point is multiple PT with every class, different specializations each time and randomized party members equipped with various different weaponry.
After that, Nightmare should be a breeze (at-least it was for me).

I have a huge amount of respect for those who play on Nightmare on the first playthrough. I will not being doing this. I find the frustration of the moment takes me out of the game, which I'm only willing to do after I've gotten my feet wet a few times. At the point I try hard or nightmare, the game is more of a contest than a story for me. Normal is (usually) my correct balance for story and urgency.
That said, kudos for challenging yourself and good luck.

Amen. Speak the word. Spirit focus for the Nightmare difficulty will likely be the starting role. Possible respec when I see what Necro/Rift have to offer.

The question is nightmare with/without friendly fire? ![]()
I really, really prefer ff, so I'll first try hard with friendly fire enabled.... then see how it goes.
...didn't the first Mass Effect have insanity locked out until after the first playthrough?

I think so, but also insanity was just such a chore. I never liked that setting in ME. Never went above hardcore.

If Insanity was locked, it must have been because of a lack of import from ME2... I did my first run of ME3 on Insanity.
For DA, though, since the combat and gameplay seems like it's going to be immensely different from 2, I'm probably going to play my first Inquisitor on hard.

I'll start on Nightmare on my first run,but if while playing through it it turns out to be as tedious and poorly design as Da II then I'll just leave it on hard,Origins nightmare was fine/fair so hopefully Bioware will have challegning but not cheap nightmare difficluty for Inquistion since they have had more time to develop the game.

I plan to start with Nightmare and friendly fire on, and will adjust accordingly if it ends up too difficult. Origins was the first game I played with this type of party-based combat, and I was really bad at it at first, but now that I understand it, Nightmare on Origins is actually quite easy for me (except for Golems DLC, that's brutal). DA2 is harder, and I usually play on Normal and sometimes Hard, but it's the wave combat that destroys me. It's almost always the third wave of enemies that will get me. Also, the lack of tactical camera makes it really hard for me to see everything that's going on, which makes me lose some party members who were off in the corner getting swarmed by a new wave of enemies I didn't see.
So I think that I may be able to handle DAI, or at least, I'm willing to try, because there's no more wave combat and the tactical camera is back.
