I'm going to play the game on the easiest difficulty. I rather focus on the story and the roleplaying. But if the combat would turn out to be to easy I think i'll play on a higher one.

+1 Sign me up! I've developed a habit of always starting each new game on the highest difficulty level just to challenge myself as much as possible. For me video games are like any hobby where you really want to be good at and put effort into it when you have the time, like playing a musical instrument for example. Well, I put even more effort into playing my 7-string, but that's just because it's even more complicated and at times even more fun than playing video games. ![]()

Trying nightmare the first time isn't for me. I'll start out on normal until I know what to expect, then turn it up (or down) if I need to. I only play DA2 on nightmare, because the game is really boring to me otherwise, but that's because I have every enemy, map, quest, and loot location (if not content) memorized. Even on DAO, I play on hard. This is a new game with new game mechanics, environments, loot, skills, etc. I'm still learning tricks playing different styles in the other games, so I doubt it will be boring.

If there's a difficulty achievement for it, then I will absolutely play Nightmare level on the first go.

That's kind of a shallow reason to do it, no? Anyway, they said there will be achievements for Nightmare /Hard playthroughs.

I was actually planning on Normal -> Hard -> Hard w/ FF -> Nightmare.
But now that I think about a blind Nightmare w/ FF could be an interesting first play through... that is the hardest the game will ever be. Once I beat the game I'll know the encounters and the tricks, but going in on Nightmare on play 1 could make it pretty interesting. I'll have to give it some thought.

Definitely playing on Nightmare at the start.
It's the way I like to play games like this. The taste of victory is much sweeter to me when you've first had to plan some elaborate strategy in order to defeat an otherwise almost impossible fight.
I still cherish the moment when I finally beat the Ancient Rock Wraith on my first playthrough (on nightmare) in DA2. To put it into perspective: I arrived at that fight with only 2 health pots and a single ranged character. Got my ass handed to me an entire evening.
I'm just debating whether or not to play with friendly fire on right away. I like the realism offered by it, so the answer will likely be yes. But on the other hand I'd like to experiment with the big aoe spells a bit on first playthroughs as well.

I want my first playthrough to be as long, memorable and rewarding as possible - always planned to have it on the hardest difficulty possible.
Every encounter is something to remember, even the tiniest crafted upgrade matters and every boss makes me wanna ragequit... that's the way a game like this should be played. At least... for me.

Wow, sounds like a possibly frustrating first experience with the game to me, but if that's the type of challenge you like then more power to you.
I'll be going on normal for my first few runs. I gain more satisfaction out of experiencing exploration and story than I do overcoming challenging enemies to be honest.

I want to try it on nightmare first; if it's too much, then I'll tone it down. My problem is that I have a good memory (for the most part), and if I recall a fight on easy, when I get to it on nightmare, it will be that much more frustrating. If I finish the game on the hardest available difficulty, then any subsequent play-through will be easier by virtue of either having played it at that difficulty before, or playing at an easier difficulty. Having waited quite some time for this game, I am not in an extreme rush to be first to finish -- I know that is a point of pride for some, but for me it is more about personal enjoyment.
We'll see how it all shakes out, but that is my plan going in blind.
