Just to make clear first off, this is not our companions swimming. This is about the pool you draw your companions from, so stop imagining the Iron Bull in swim trunks, or any other images you may have.

In general I'm fond of our companions in theory, I haven't talked to any of them, but I would like it if there were more females and I don't really care for Cole or Blackwall. So I thought I'd share my ideal party, and you all can share yours. The only requirement is that it's balanced by class, you can't assemble all the mages in Thedas and recruit them, as entertaining as that might prove.

Any Dragon Age game, so garrus is out, and create your own in a general sense. A paragraph long dissertation on the life of your elf who was raised by casteless dwarves is probably a bit much.

Well, technically she died in a book, not a game, so she's alive until Inquisition is released and that book becomes canon... right?  :/

Ughh I can't do this I really love DAI's roster. I would only add (and not remove any of DAI's companions) Aveline, Oghren, Zevran, Morrigan, Shale and Cullen.

You forgot to include Zevran.  He knows jokes, massage techniques, 6 different card games... he's wonderful at parties.

Hmm, interesting people that came to mind writing this. It was hard on the mages most for me, I love Morrigan but had to go with my guy Finn.

You know what would make this more interesting? If each party you created had some kind of theme that tied them all together. For instance, my ideal party for fun a pirate adventure exploration story would have;

I'm going to assume this 'party pool' is for Inquisition, so I'll make my list based off of that: 

 

Warriors- 

Cassandra 

Iron Bull 

Blackwall

 

I'll keep the Warrior lineup as-is. I like Iron Bull, I can imagine Cass is VERY important to DAI and I'm warming up to Blackwall. He may be more interesting than I initially thought. 

 

Rogues-

Sera 

Female Dwarf or Elf

Male Human or Elf

 

I really, really don't care for the 6:3 gender imbalance nor do I care for what little I've seen/read of Cole, so I'd replace him with another female party member. I'd have her be a female dwarf or elf simply because I've noticed in the majority of BioWare games, most female companions are humans and the 'other races' make up the bulk of the male characters (Awakening and KOTOR are notable exceptions). Plus, I'd have her be an additional LI for both genders, which would allow not only another female option for either gender, but a non-human female option for male PCs as well. Used dwarf because she could be the first dwarven LI (plus, sore lack of female dwarves in general), but also elf since elves are genuinely popular and fit the rogue class. Can't see Qunari as rogues, sorry.

 

Swapped Varric for male human/elf because I feel Varric already had his time in DA2. I think he'd still be a prominent character in DAI, possibly the narrator/storyteller (the lorekeeper?), but he might do better as one of the Inquisition agents. I'd swap this character as an LI for both genders and take out one of the female gated romances (Cullen/Solas, preferably Solas given his huge restriction).

 

Mages-

Don't see anything fundamentally wrong with the mage lineup, so they remain the same. I really like all three characters (based on what I've seen).
