Going to through out my own guess on which order we get our companions. I'm certain its wrong but hey who knows.

Cassandra, Varric and Solas seem to be the first companions we get.

After them I would put

i agree with that list for the most part, i think we'll be recruiting vivienne sooner than you listed, but who knows, it might be like dragonage 2 where there is specific quests for their recruitment and when you recruit them is up to you.

After that, I don't know. The order is probably entirely dependent on you. I'm getting the impression Vivienne probably isn't going to join up until the Inquisition has sufficient influence for her to throw her party. Sera might be fairly early, as it says she finds you on the streets of Val Royeaux rather than you find her.

Yeah, maybe you're right and Vivienne will be picked up much sooner, but I personally thought that we'd get her much later on because of how we'll she probably be recruited in Orlais along with Sera, which I assume will be somewhat later on in the game.

thats true. i originally thought inquisition was going to start in orlais, but after hearing how Haven is going to be where the inquisitions base is, so thinking on it now, you are probably right and she will be recruited later on.

I'm guessing there's not an exact order for some, more like the three quests for Cole, Iron Bull, and Sera will get opened at the same time to take as your leisure (or you'll be let loose in the area where you can find their quests and you may stumble upon one early and not find the others till later)

Most probably you're right. I just hope we can't accidentally skip them like in DA 2.

Dorian appears to be more important than some people's list make him look. He appears in the trailer and talks about the Elder one, which sounds pretty important, since that's the main bad. If he's the one that reveals that to you, then he's probably recruited early on. He's also from Tevinter and we are going to be fighting a lot of Tevinter enemies in this game as far as I can  tell.

 

Varric, Cass and Solas are probably the first companions we're going to get. As far as not as important companions go, Iron Bull and Sera sound like the least story tied to me, since Sera is a member (ex member?) of Red Jenny and Iron Bull a group leader of a mercenary group (important people, but not that significant to the story). Vivienne is very high up in the Circle, Blackwall is tied to the Wardens which obviously have a role in Inquisition as well...don't know about Cole, but being from the Fade and all...

Im thinking Vivienne is the last recruited companion since she throws a ball for the inquisition and the inquisition has to have grown.

 

I think i read somewhere that vivienne sera and iron bull were all recruited in orlais and we know cass solas and varric are the first companions.

 

This means on the way to orlais you recruit dorian, blackwall and cole which i think makes sense.

 

You have to have recruited everyone before Vivienne's ball or people arent gonna get to dance with their LI

After Cassandra, Varric and Solas  I'm guessing the next companion will be based on where players chosen to go next.

 

However, I do believe Dorian will be the 4th member recuited since I notice the Thedas Enemies trailer shows him first meeting the Inquisitor and his companions in Village of Haven which is where the 1st part of the game will start out before the Inquisition is formed.

I wouldnt be surprised if there are tiers, like the 3 after solas can be recruited in any order once we reach a certain influence, then the last 3 could be gathered in any order with enough influence.  I dont think they are gonna give us a set order as to who we get where outside the first 3

Cass, Varric and Solas are pretty much confirmed as the first three. I also agree on Vivienne being the last to join but other than that I'm not that sure - but from what we've heard/seen so far, I'd say Cole > Blackwall > Dorian > Iron Bull / Sera

I really don't think Vivienne will be the last to join. I think the companions will join more or less just after we start 'their' questline. Like, Dorian might join when we start the Venatori questline, Blackwall when we start the GW questline and Vivienne when we start the Orlesian Civil War questline. So I think there'll be a lot of variation in who joins first, (apart from Cass, Varric and Solas of course) and who joins last from player to player.

Cassandra and Varric seem to be your starters. Cass probably will come first given the whole explosion and dagger scene ("you are the only threat I see"), and through some escape from the remains Varric happens to be there ("its raining demons"). Plus, in most BioWare games the main warrior companion tends to be first-or almost first-(Alistair, Aveline/Carver, Jenkins/Ashley).

 

Solas probably seeks the party out not soon after (betting it will be a chance meetup in the forest). That way the PC gets a party member of each class (Cass-warrior, Varric-rogue, Solas-mage), which will balance things out no matter what class he/she is.

 

I think Iron Bull, Sera, and Blackwall will be similar to recruiting Fenris/Isabela in which you have to seek them out or come across them on story-based/timed missions. Blackwall will probably be the easiest to find given the Wardens involvement in DAI while Iron Bull/Sera need to be sought out voluntarily (paying attention to war table/quests).

 

Cole will probably come mid-game through a scripted event at Skyhold.

 

I can see Vivienne/Dorian coming a bit later in the game given the Orlesian Ball (as others said) and the whole incident with Alexius, which is said to happen pretty late in the game.

Interesting question. I think the order of some of them depends on quests but:

 

Cassandra and Leliana are shown in the trailer coming to question you. Leliana I suspect goes off to rally the fledgling inquisition, leaving Cass with you.

Varric is met soon afterwards and he says it's raining demons.

Solas must be the first mage as he shows you how to use the hand.

 

People arriving before reaching Skyhold:

Dorian

Cole

Cullen

 

People arriving after Skyhold:

Iron Bull seeks you out at Skyhold.

Vivienne invites you to a ball in your honour in Orlais.

Josephine? Assuming she had to travel from Antiva it would take her a few weeks to reach you.

 

Unknown time of quests so far, but likely to be in/around Orlais:

Blackwall.

That seems very likely, although there is an outside chance he may appear do your tutorial scene and leave and then have to be recruited elsewhere.
