How do you think the people of Thedas will react overall if you choose to embrace the title of "The Herald of Andraste" while being a non human race? I could just imagine the looks on all the Andrastians and Chantry higher-ups faces when they find out that the Herald is a towering qunari. And that alone will probably make me choose to embrace that title over just "Inquisitor" on my first playthough.

I am most definitely going to play a Elf or Qunari who hates that title but i would love to see the interaction the Orlesian have to a Elven Herald who accepts and honors his role.

I want to be a qunari mage who accepts the role but tells everyone that Andraste was a spirit healer and an abomination and the Maker is just an incredibly powerful spirit of Creation (in all its forms, including the necessary destruction required for creation).  That would be cool.

It's confirmed that we don't need to be a "Herald" of any sort, yes?

It is, yes. I believe it was said that we could stop the whole "Herald of Andraste" stuff pretty early on.

Let's play a Qunari Necromancer who fully employs this title

'It is I, your Herald. Dig up your graveyards that I might choose the finest corpses for my cause.'

That's good cause I really can't see my qunari warrior standing for that nonsense, let alone embracing it.

In general, I hope to see a bit of trepidation, maybe some resistance from the very powerful or the very religious, especially if the prospective Herald is a Dalish or Qunari Inquisitor.  Actually, any non-Human "should" be treated with a little resistance, even our Dwarven Inquisitors.  Only Humans are typically seen by the public as being devout Andrasteans, or worthy of the Maker's attention.  After a short time, however, I'm hoping that the Inquisitor's detractors either accept them as the Herald (if the status is embraced), or people stop using the title to refer to the Inquisitor, instead choosing to call them, "Your Eminence."

Personally...

My first Inquisitor (male Qunari Mage) will chafe a little at the title, but won't deny it.  Eventually, he'll try to live up to being the Herald as best he can, while not sacrificing his ideals.  If being honest about certain beliefs results in people losing faith in him as the Herald, then so be it.  He'll also try to be open to the Chantry, and will take time to study the Chant of Light.

My second (female Elf Mage), however, will try to fight it at first, but will eventually embrace it, seeing it as a useful political tool.  She will not convert to Chantry in any way, though, preferring to stay with her belief in the Elven gods.  She'll only pretend she has.  I predict it causing some problems between her, Leliana, and Cassandra.

yes, but the people of thedas will still call you the herald.  Even if you dont embrace it, they will call you that.  This has really upset a lot of people for some reason, but hey i can call anyone i want by whatever title i want, and so can the people of thedas, even if it makes you want to murder them

I suspect most people will have heard that there's a Herald of Andraste now, but not that they're dwarf/elf/qunari, so I guess there will be a lot of confusion at the beginning when they first meet you. Once the Inquisition gains more influence, it will probably be known which race you belong to and some will reject your claims to be the Herald because of that.

It will definitely be interesting to find out about this. I have a dalish character in mind who might actually believe that she's Andraste's chosen and convert to Andrastianism. I also wanted to do a Herald playthrough with my female human, but it sounds really interesting to see an elven herald in comparison to one who seems a perfect fit for this position.

I am so going to enjoy taking advantage of this title, pretend to embrace this title while disrupt  the Chantry's stability from the inside, and hijacking the Inquisition and use them to expand personal influence. :P

Clearly you are actually the Herald of "Andraste", as in the High Dragon that guarded the Temple where you were when **** went down.

The difference is that you're actually going aroud saving the world from rifts using a strange supernatural power while fronting an organisation formed by the Chantry. I think many people considering you to be the Herald of Andraste is actually a pretty likely outcome.

I understand peoples problem with the Chantry and Maker but why do people have a problem with a woman who freed thousands of slaves freed hundreds of miles of land. laid the seeds for 3 great nations. gave the Elves a place to call home. And wanted to unite the world in peace.

How can you dislike her for people who are unrelated to her hundreds of years after she is dead and misusing her words as reason to call Exalted marches and sometimes forcibly convert.

Am i to blame if my Great, Great, Great, Great descendant misuses my words so he can kill his neighbor?

I'm sorry i just don't see why some people get such a vile feeling when being the Herald of a great woman. and i don't mean because of her religion. but plainly because she was a great person in history.

this isn't directed at anyone in particular i just have seen many post in many threads saying they completely hate the Herald of Andraste title.

I guess some people won't be happy with Herald who is not human. If I remember right didn't devs say (months ago) that getting respect as human is easiest but for example as qunari harder.

I'll embrace the title, just to annoy the hell out of the chantry and the templars. I'm a qunari mage necromancer AND herald of andraste. Where is your maker now?

Ya I did. But I seriously hope we can get rid of that. It's like they call you a lesser version of Thedas-jesus. I don't care what the woman did, it's the symbolism that bothers me. A lot, like, if someone in Crestwood calls me it I'm gonna let the place burn just for that

All can seek the embrace of Andraste. No one should be excluded.

I just want to know why any other race other than human would believe they are the Herald in the first place. Is there a good explanation? Does it show the other race not believing it and just going along with it? Or is this a plot hole that's a necessary evil from when they decided to add more races from the time extension?

My Dalish Elf mage will embrace the title and the belief in the maker.

Considering in my headcanon he always found Dalish culture stupid anyway, the choice to embrace a title bearing the name of a woman who performed miracles, gave birth to nations, freed slaves and nearly brought evil empire to its knees...well, it won't be a difficult decision.

He will of course offer his former people the chance to denounce their backward and moronic lifestyle, but if they resist and the opportunity arises to destroy them it will be taken. :)

...

And yes, I acknowledge my almost visceral hatred for a fantasy elven race is probably going overboard.
