For me:

- Ridiculous visual effects of some spells/abilities and animations: rogue teleporting through the air leaving huge trails of air wave with supersonic sound effects and purple flashes, rogue backstabbing with flashing purple, enchantment with lights circling around characters and when it goes off it looks like coming off a sci fi world not a magical fantasy world, Cassandra and knight enemies with shield charging creating a wave air barrier, Varric firing a salvo of purple bolts, some sword slashes creating a trail of burning air, health potions bathing characters in a swathe of bright green light, etc, etc.

- Stacking them on top of each other, the battlefield becomes a chaos, a discordant cacophony of bright colors and rainbows, particularly near fade rifts, sometimes obscuring what's going on. Some effects are alright but they are too large visually. Others are way too over the top - breaking immersion and the sense of realism. This is Dragon Age, a dark fantasy world with mature themes and gritty nature, not Saturday morning cartoon or World of Warcraft. It is okay to exaggerate stuff somewhat to add impact, but IMO this has gone too far. It is understandable that there's a need to provide distinct visual clues for players to immediately identify what's going on so as to be able to make informed and quick decisions. And there will be players who don't see this as a problem, but I find all these excessive, I'm sure many others do as well. That's why there needs to be a slider/toggle to tone down spell/abilities' visual effects, make them subtler.

- The recent news that there will be no healing spells and limited potions are welcome news. It encourages better planning and better play so that one considers fighting several battles ahead, not just the next one, because one has to preserve their health now that heals/potions are in limited supply. Still, considering BW's history of creating relatively unchalleging games, I doubt that it would be enough of a challenge for me. I play DAO on Nightmare with a mod for extra levels of difficulty, even then it wasn't enough for me. Played DA2 on Nightmare, but it wasn't exactly that challenging, more like tedious with enemies with their insane health. Here's hoping BW create a truly challenging Nightmare mode that doesn't use cheap tricks like pumping insane healths and one-shot damage to enemies, and require the player to really strategize, tactically optimized and play intelligently to defeat. That said, the majority of players out there are more casual, so it is understandable if BW didn't focus too much on getting higher difficulties right. Would be nice though.

- Looking at a lot of the videos of gameplay released recently, there seemed to be a lot of enemy groups standing idly about, waiting to be discovered and subsequently be wiped out. The fights look easy, providing not much tactical challenge. Here's hoping these repetitive, boring 'popcorn' fights are not representative of the game's battles. I remember playing DA: Legacy and DA: Mark of the Assassin. There were ambushes, carefully and intelligently placed enemies that provide a bit more surprise and tactical thinking, where each battle scenarios are different and provide new ways of combating.

I did preorder the game. So it's not like I'm super duper worried, just concerned certain stuffs.

Hmh, there are indeed a couple of concerns I have. In last time you see one thing repeatedly - the more a game is hyped, the less good it is in the end. I'm worried that it will take this path as well. The graphic is fantastic, the world big and I'm sure the story is wonderful, but I hope they will not take on to much all at once. Don't know how the people here see it, but I would rather have a smaller world with bite than a hollow world, stuffed with useless, unnecessary crap (sorry).

Now with that being said, there is another concern. Unlike SphereofSilence (the first post) I'm not really interested in big, tactical and difficult fights. I like storys, and therefore I play the games for it. From the videos I've seen there is a lot you have to consider in a fight situation, including no healing spells and no generous consuming of healing potions. Now, there is nothing against a good challenge, but I seriously hope we don't have to think through every confrontation. Like - Oh a bear! Vivienne freeze it! Iron Bull stun it! Now the bolts of fire! - you know? It's nice for all who like it, and I'm glad they did this for those players, but for myself, I wouldn't enjoy it. So I hope there is a healthy balance in it which allows fighters to have their fights, and lazy ones like me to just punch it until it dies.

Furthermore I was surprised to hear about the extensive crafting system. Maybe it just sounds like it, but it seems you have quite a number of materials you can pick up, and much more options to do something with it. Personally I like the idea and look forward to tailor myself some robes, but I hope this didn't come at costs of "more important" content. I'm a fan of Bioware games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect, and it would be a shame to see traits which were so endearing in the first place fall away - for the now typical and horrible boring activity of "grinding/farming". This is no assumption, only my concerns. I have trust in Bioware and can't wait to play DA:i in november ^_^

I couldn't find a similar thread in Scuttlebutt talking about people's general concerns about DAI in general. Would appreciate it if you can point to it.

- The combat seems harder than in DAO and DA2 and it was already hard enough in those.

- Lack of good qunari hairstyles makes doing good looking qunari character hard if not impossible.

- I'm worried that I mess up and get my companions/advisors killed/leave/hurt.

- Lack of approval meter makes it hard to know where I stand.. or I think it'll.

EDIT:

- Female walking and running animations will make me cringe too much and I can't get past them.

About the base game, none at the moment.

I do have just one concern in general though.  I've had so many problems with DLCs bugging out, even on an official download, from BioWare games.

ME2: Won't authorize DLC gotten straight from the official BSN and/or Origin/Steam sites.  Need to use a 3rd party program to get it to work properly.

ME3: Same issue, need to copy and replace files in order for it to work correctly.

DA:A: Wonderful expansion, but it's so buggy in parts that I have a small list of mods in order to correct broken quests.

DA2: In order to prevent a serious freezing issue during one of the Exalted Prince quests in Act 2, I have to remove an update patch for that DLC...because I have Legacy installed.

I really don't want to have to fight the game and do things like downloading third party programs and such just to get the DLC that I bought, paid for and downloaded from the official BSN or Origin site.

That the voiced protagonist will continue to prevent roleplaying in the same way that it did in ME and DA2.

The only thing I can tell you is that the devs promised that the neutral dialogue (ie. "Who are you;" "What is this place, ect) won't have any sort of tone to it.  It'll be asked in a straight forward manner with little auto-dialogue.  I've read some of your posts and I know it doesn't mean a heck of a lot, but I hope it helps a bit.

And that's probably going to be hugely valuable to me.

I often rely on asking questions in these games to avoid having my character make any assertions (because questions don't convey information).  So being able to ask questions in a neutral way (and know when I'm doing it) will help a lot.

Ah, glad to hear it then.  :D

While it didn't bother me as much, it became very annoying in both DA2 and in ME3 in some instances.  So I was pretty relived as well.

The tones are apparently: (1) Diplomatic (not entirely sure about the name of this one) (2) Clever and (3) Direct, so if "direct" is not aggressive but rather matter-of-fact, you may have a fallback for when something is not a question.

That the main story will be another bore like DAO.

That the possible conclusions of the Orlesian civil war and the Elven uprising will only be a few shades of status quo, like in DAO.

That the eight abilities limit will castrate too much gameplay variety.

Too much timers.

I'm actually kinda worried there'll be some issue with the Keep on release. Servers getting overloaded, data not importing correctly, etc. Would be enough to spoil a playthrough a bit for me. DA2's botched imports kinda did once or twice.

Is it really true that there's an 8 ability limit? Where can one confirm that?

That'd be my concern as well. They can test the logic of DA Keep with beta tests and all, but what happens when millions of people use it, generate save files or download them, at the same time? Would kinda suck if we can't get these files one way or another come the time of release, the moment we've been waiting for, for the last 4 years. The game in our hands, but unable to move forward just because of past decisions aren't loaded up.

As soon as the beta tests validates the logic of the Keep, would be good to release Keep as soon as possible before release, might help to reduce release day overload, and they'd have time to fix any issues that cropped up. Of course, I'm just saying things with little information here, so haha I'm not in position to comment really. Here's hoping things go smoothly.

If you guys want to help test the Keep, try this thread:

http://forum.bioware...a-apply-within/

I politely requested a beta key for the Keep and got one in two days.  It took another two days for me to fully get in, since they are doing it in waves every few days.  It's all legit; I got my beta code in a PM from a BioWare employee.

I'm  mostly fine.  My only worries are that (as I'm a depressed drunken pessimist) everything we've seen and heard is lies and it's actually totally **** in every single possible respect.  Also that my shitty laptop won't run it.
