If you don't help Aveline snag Donnic in Act 2, how does that change things with her in Act 3, particularly the "Favor and Fault" quest? The Wiki says that some guards join Jeven and that Donnic calls her a nasty name, but I've not been able to find a video showing how it all plays out.
I always play matchmaker with her and Donnic (even the one time I rivaled her), so I'm most curious how things turn out if Aveline stays single. 
If I recall correctly she gets kinda depressed and is sad she missed her chance at happiness and Donnic is seen around the blooming rose.
She becomes cranky, and if you rival her, she could resign from the post of Guard-Captain in an outcome of the "Favor and Fault." And will consecutively stand with Meredith (mind that she wouldn't reconsider this decision, unlike Fenris or Merrill).

Well of course she's cranky, she's not being regularly "flipped over arse over t*ts and hammered like a bent nail", to quote Isabela! 
I'm not a huge fan of Donnic (I think he's kind of a wet drip), but I love Aveline far too much to let her remain single and miserable!
Donnic becomes extremely rude in his interactions with Aveline and she has a less friendly relationship with the Guard in general... she's seen more as a harsh taskmistress than a leader, but she's fine with that so long as it keeps them alive. Aside from Donnic cursing her out, Favor and Fault seemed to play out pretty much the same as it always did... from what I can remember, anyway.
I think you face more opponents when you face off against Jeven in Act 3. If you got Aveline and Donnic together then the guard will also support her without question.
Does Cullen have any different dialogue during the quest?
I know that if you get Donnic/Aveline together, you can report back to him and he acknowledges that he believes the accusations against Aveline are completely baseless, but does that change if she doesn't marry Donnic and have the support of the guard?
Damn I should when I replay DAO and DA2 means NOW do all side quests, always passed em and went to finish game, I AM SUCH AN IDIOT lol ... poor Aveline... I just cant do it to her...
If I remember correctly, her and Isabela become hard core lovers and move across the sea to the island of "Cali-frisco" and start a small farm growing hemp and organic vegetables. They also take in lots of stray cats and ugly dogs.

Man that's rough, glad I always play Eros/Cupid,wing man,etc. The girl needs some fun. What happens if you try to romance her after she get married? I tried once for fun,but was romancing someone else,not sure if that affects anything. I know she's not an option,but does she say or do anything to Hawke?
One other thing... her banter with Varric changes as well. I was playing DA2 earlier today and when Varric brought up his writing, she was disinterested and he said that he'd lost his inspiration... it was clearly in reference to her lack of a love life, since it replaces the banter where he teases her about it in playthroughs where she and Donnic got married. So I guess this means that there won't be a sequel to "Hard in Hightown."

No, he doesn't. Cullen says that the accusations are anonymous, and that's truth in both cases. The parts that differ in this quest are: Donnic's reaction, dialogue with Brennan (Lowtown guard), confrontation with Jeven and subsequent Aveline's reaction to guard's support.
I'd love to see a video covering this topic. I'm a quest-hound in my playthroughs (except The Fixer since I find that quest degrading) and have never seen a single Aveline in Act 3.
Poor Aveline. Seems like she really loses control without Donnic by her side.

Yeah, it always bothered me that things got so depressing for her. I never expected her storyline to be significantly altered like that, although it's good that the devs went ahead and implemented such in-depth changes to nearly every aspect of her Act 3 content. That was one of the few truly impressive displays of dynamic storytelling in DA2. I'd have just fired Donnic though... he turned into a complete tool... >.>

Yeah, it was weird... maybe he turned out to be the most powerful guardsman or something, so she kept him around. He is the only guard who shows up to fight Meredith, depending on how the game plays out.
In Donnics defense, Aveline has probably been harassing him for the last few years. Giving him easier patrols (which he resents, "Don't you trust me?") and probably kept going with her awkward flirting and strange gift giving. Who starts thinking of giving dowry when a minor flirt fails? Without Hawkes push she really comes off as a creeper and shows a side Donnic dislikes.
To female Hawke on the akward date: "Look, if this was all an attempt to get closer to me through the captain, you're just not my type. All this playing shy business? I like a little backbone."
With all these failing attempts she becomes frustrated. She pours herself into the job, disciplining right and left, since she doesn't really care whether people like her or not, only that they are safe. I think Donnic reins her in a bit if they are married, reminding her that the guards don't want a golem for a captain, they want a person.

If you're taking requests... I heard that Saemus acts differently to Hawke in Act 2 if you skip his Act 1 quest.
