Only on my second playthrough. First was a casteless dwarf girl who fell hard for Alistair. Absolutely loved his romance and how central it felt to the story. She made some bad choices toward the end because of it, stupid Wynne, going round being right all the time. I might replay from the Landsmeet on, not sure. Got to Awakening and discovered that not only was Alistair not in it (understandable) there wasn't even a vague explanation as to why not, got irritated and stopped playing to start a new character. May, as I say, replay it, and put Alistair on the throne (because ugh, Anora is terrible) but can't quite decide whether that would just be horribly out of character. (Although I only put Anora on the throne the second time I won the Landsmeet because I buggered up the talk with him where I think you're supposed to be able to end up being his mistress and there wasn't a post-Landsmeet save point before that chat).
This time around I'm playing a male city elf who, while he is bloody glad he killed Vaughan, is now trying to make up for that by sparing anyone he can, because he feels like he shouldn't put himself in some kind of position of judge and executioner (I don't think juries are probably a thing in Ferelden) so if someone either surrenders/can be scared off or, in Zevran's case, is knocked out but can be roused and spoken to, he'll let them live (on the other hand, anyone actively attacking him is fair game). He's also feeling guilty, given the circumstances of his not-getting-married, at how relieved he was not to have to marry, well, a woman. So, I'm sure you can guess who he's romancing. Well. Shagging. He's currently trying not to fall any harder for Zevran, but not really succeeding. (Interestingly, had a chat with Alistair that I'm sure my dwarf never had the option of, where he asked what my elf thought of various other members of the party (all LIs and Sten, I think? Not Wynne, anyway.) Have had a few other chats that I don't think my dwarf got as options, come to think of it, not sure if I just missed them or if they are location-specific or something.) I've tried to avoid reading spoilers, so I'm half expecting Zevran to end up double-crossing us, though he never did as my dwarf's moderately-friendly-stop-calling-me-beautiful-though companion.
I suspect my next character will go for Morrigan, although it'll mean playing as a man again which I'm not really used to (I'm a woman, and if the option's there I'll almost always play as one). She's intriguing, though. My first attempt at playing the game was a female city elf and I really liked what little I saw of Morrigan that time. My first full playthrough I found her super-annoying about 90% of the time. Current playthrough I'm liking her a lot more. I've noticed this with Skyrim (modded) companions, too, there's a popular one called Vilja who I *hated* the first time I tried her out, when I was playing as a 30-something Imperial woman with a wife and kids who was at about level 25 when I installed the mod. A few months later, I decided to give her another go (because even though I found her character annoying, I thought the mod was very interestingly done) and, as a teenage Breton girl who met her pretty much straight out of Helgen, I absolutely adored her, and even went on to have the original Vilja in Oblivion be a significant part of my Oblivion main character's story.
