I also like with the Tome of Rifts you'll be creating a new College of Magic.
I am going to imagine the mortalsi skull and the tomb of rifts are involved in unlocking necromancer and rift mage specialization.

Initial thoughts ...
* Focus abilities appear to be tied to specializations. I wonder if it's just one Focus ability per specialization. It looked that way.
* It was nice to finally see Josephine (and Cullen and Leliana of course) in action. I love her accent. Want moar.
* Loooooved the armor we saw, especially Sera's and the Knight Enchanter Inquisitor's.
* Probably the most informative of gameplay demos we've seen so far. I'm kind of hoping they'll continue this trend going forward with showing us some of the specialization capabilities.
* I had zero interest in Knight Enchanter when I first heard about it, but the abilities they showed off made it look quite promising. I really don't know what I'm going to go with on my first playthrough now. Hopefully we will see more of the specializations so we'll have more of an idea of what they each entail in the future.
For people wondering about how spoilery it is, I'd say ... Part I is the most spoiler-ish ... and it's pretty minor, but you do see how the Inquisitor meets the advisers for the first time. And you get a vague idea of where Cullen's mind state is regarding mages and Templars. You also find out the reason we are sent to one of the big areas early on in the game. Parts II and III are less spoilery.
I don't mind minor spoilers though and the plot isn't really spoiled in any part, so there's that as well. ![]()

All you have to do is turn off the sound for that part and it's fine.
I'm sort of mad about healing being tied to Knight Enchanter... but equally curious about what focus abilities are available for necromancer and rift mage. Does anyone know if they confirmed that we can spec different companions with these specializations? Can we pick an choose? Ex: Dorian as necromancer, vivian as knight enchanter, solas as rift mage---anything in-between?
Also.. dat inventory...
.....
Is it sortable?

So I could have sworn on an earlier thread that someone said if you play with a controller on PC, the interface UI changes to PS4/XONE, is that true?

Yes, the UI will change to accommodate the controller.
Many of the gameplay videos on YouTube are of the PC version but played with a controller and you will see that the UI is different.

The specialisations for the companions have unique descriptions, which implies strongly to me that they'll be set. Solas is a Rift mage, Varric is an Artificer, Cassandra is a Templar, for example.
That said, I'm not 100% sure whether the companions might get unique focus skills. Varric's Artificer, for example, had the Focus skill 'Hail of Arrows', which doubles all archery moves. They explicitly stated in this stream that the specs work for either weapon-focus, which makes me suspicious.
@aarcher86
shoot that's right.. i remember they said that. well.. i guess if i play on nightmare i'll be a knight enchanter.

I'm just hoping there's another mage in the game that exists besides me with the resurgance spell. Considering how incredibly limited healing options are in-game, it looks virtually invaluable for my playthrough. Thing is, even though Knight Enchanter looks cool--i don't wanna play it. If I roll as a mage I'm definitely going necromancer.
But now that you mention that you might be right, each companion may have their own unique specialization focus ability. In which case I am screwed out of resurgance haha... unless someone else has a similar spell, I guess we'll see.

If the companions *don't* have unique Focus skills, then the one with Resurgence would be Vivienne.
The mouse and keyboard camera control is much much smoother than the gamepad controller and the game play and video is more watchable.
I've only skimmed this thread and haven't seem everyone's analysis, but anyone else notice this? It's only there for a split second...

I hope they will show us the Necro tree soon. If we can summon minions as Necromancer, I don't care about the healing spell, frankly. Having something else to deal/absorb damage will probably be more valuable than a fairly infrequent heal.
Every mage will be pretty much forced to take barrier anyway, so meh.

There's even a little crafing recipe/side-questy thing tied to the area...

now im fantasizing about the necromancer focus spell..... mmmm... I don't even know. Instant death? Mass undead summoning? Maybe like a giant walking bomb spell...?

The game is continuing to look very good. I am very excited for the crafting.

The speculation was that KE had haste and Necro had the heal...but since KE has the heal I guess that means we would end up with haste as the focus spell? Which would actually be super weird because haste used to be in the Creation tree (which is now gone...lulz).

It would make absolutely no sense to have haste tied to necromancer. I don't really know about rift mage... I mean.. maybe? Rifts... time magic.. eh. I hope they tie it in with a standard tree. I would say lightning would make sense, but then again I'm hoping for powerful AoE elemental spells... So .... yeaaaah. Compromises, compromises.
Haste looks pretty cool. At any rate I know they specifically mentioned that haste was a focus spell, but I have no clue where it would land.

I agree it makes no sense, but frankly, I don't think what they've done with magic spells really makes a lick of sense, as compared to DAO and DA2. They've taken Elemental and Primal and broken them into several separate trees and axed Creation and Entropy trees entirely, while sticking spells from those schools into random other trees. *shrug*
Haste has to either be the Necro focus spell or Rift focus spell. I really hope they will put up screenshots or another gameplay showing the rest of the spell trees, especially the other specialization trees.
Here's what we've seen from the Spirit Tree today (and if you haven't seen it before, they do show one healing spell - Revival).
