We all know how fantasy stories like Lord of the Rings and Dragon Age have multiple races of people; Regular Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and various other groups like Qunari and Hobbits.

We also know how most (or at least the best) forms of fantasy happen in an environment that is medieval in it's technological level; Heavy body armor, swords, axes, shields, bows & arrows, etc. Plus various forms of biotics magic, or otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a fantasy story.

*Clears throat* Anyway, can any of you picture what it might be like if all the Races of Mass Effect (Humans, Turians, Asari, Krogan, Salarians, Hanar, Elcor,.. oh, and the Quarians) were all consolidated in a single world where technologically, nobody is past medieval?

How do you picture it? Is every race it's own sovereign nation? Or is at least one race subservient to another? Would they be at constant peace or at constant war with one another?

Pour you heart imagination out!

P.S. Too bad there aren't many Fanfiction stories based like this.

P.P.S. Bioware itself should probably consider this idea.

That picture is seven kinds of awesome. I especially like Legion and EDI. And Normandy...

...Though I'm guessing that artist didn't save Ashley on Virmire...

HAHAHA! I remembered a DA ME pic from awhile ago, and decided to look for it. Whoever drew this had taste in medieval fantasy fashion.

It's amazing. I think Samara is my favorite. She actually looks like a DA justicar. Legion as Shale is pretty freakin' cool too, though.

Alright, if there are no DA Justicars in DA:I, then no bang!

Wow people, I don't know whether it's laziness, or lack of imagination, but all you people can come up with a couple of drawings (that aren't even yours) that simply take the ME story characters and blast a little DA paint on them...

I said, "pour out your imaginations!"

I don't know if the Asari would be able to remain a sovereign nation of their own; I see them as alternating (as a subservient race) between Human and Turian ownership, as the Humans and Turians are at constant war with each other, as both seem to take pride in their military might.

Obviously, this was the genesis of the original Mass Effect. The Doctors were sitting around after a 7 course dinner somewhere in Edmonton. They were likely chatting about taking dark-fantasy archetypes and juxtapositioning them in other settings. One of them brainstormed the idea of a future/007- type setting. Then Casey Hudson came over to the table, & they were like "... oh no. Anything but this guy-- HEY! Look guys! It's CASEY!!"

The rest is history

So, you're calling out other people for their lack of imagination, and all you've come up with is to turn the asari into a slave race, passed between the humans and turians like trophies?

I see the asari as near-immortal users of magic, locked in their towers -- of which there is one in each nation -- and seeing them is a rare occurrence, unless one journeys to the tower to trade for magical goods. The asari trade these goods in exchange for the resources they can't otherwise acquire. Once every year they emerge en masse from their towers in a week-long Festival of the Azure where they seek out and mate with all the other species on the planet; for as everyone knows, if they don't mate with other species they will die out.

Long ago, the krogan attempted to conquer the world, but were defeated by the combined might of the turians and salarians, who drove them to a remote and isolated island continent. The flora and fauna on this island has altered the krogans' reproductive systems and although they are still the mightiest warriors on the planet, their small population means they are no longer considered a concerted threat. Many that are left hire out as mercenaries, and the ones who remain on the island are desperately seeking to reverse the species' sterile condition. They have made many overtures toward the asari with this goal in mind, but the asari have so far been unwilling or unable to help them.

The turians are the planet's greatest military force and were once its largest empire. The krogan conflict has reduced this empire to a fraction of its former glory, and what remains is divided into tribal nation-states. A great leader, known only as The Primarch, is attempting both to unite the tribes and forge an alliance with the salarians, with whom they have remained on friendly terms. If the unification and alliance are successful, many turians believe their empire will be restored to its former glory.

The salarians mostly live deep underground, and are the most technologically advanced and wealthiest of all the Land's races. With relatively no military might of their own, they rely both on political intrigue and on their mined wealth of jewels and gold for their power and influence.

The quarians are known as the best sailors in the Land, living on a vast network of islands in the southern hemisphere, and sending fleets of ships to raid and trade with all the other races. Artistic and passionate, they are famous for their colorful costumes and masks, their poetry and their music. They live in somewhat close proximity to the krogan nation, and have been in constant conflict with them since the krogan banishment.

Humans are new arrivals to the Land, believed to have come from a distant place far over the horizon where no one has ever been. They have carved out a homeland for themselves, but have spread throughout the world, and are generally met with tolerance, though most other races are afraid of their growing power. The asari believe the arrival of the humans was foretold long ago, and is a sign of great change, but whether it is for good or ill is unknown.

An uneasy general peace exists at the moment, with only minor conflicts taking place between species. All species send delegates to meet once every five years in a grand democratic council to resolve disputes, hear petitions, renew treaties, trade, etc. etc. etc. Nothing ever changes much at these councils, but everyone feels better for having them.

That's all I got so far.

Hey Sporkfu, at least I am trying. Anyway...

Nice Sporkfu, I applaud you. But tell me, why do you see the Salarians as people dwelling underground?

P.S. I didn't say that the Humans and the Turians peacefully trade the Asari, I meant that whenever one side is defeated in battle from one it's territories, the servants/slaves are often left behind.

P.P.S. I was having trouble finding a place for the Quarians, thanks for thinking of one. I think the Hanar would fit in as a race that lives in underwater communities, and every now-and-again they send out "wise-men" to chat with whoever comes over to a special pond/lake seeking a polite advice.

I dunno, I was trying to make a traditional gnome out of them, I guess... but non-traditional in a way, in that they use politics and secrecy to move about the world, and yet they're still technologically advanced tinkerers. They'd be the first of the races to come up with gunpowder, for example.

No, no, NO! No gunpowder! No Guns!* Any form of gun is a form of modernization!

Modernization is the enemy of fantasy! The Fable franchise has tried that and it failed miserably!

*Don't get me wrong, I love my guns.

Perhaps, somewhere there is a "Truce Zone", where neither the Turians or the Humans fight battles, but instead send their best fighters to kill one another in an arena.

It is an Alchemist.

Probably Asari because of maternal instinct and stuff.

Overall, Mass Effect species are already pretty Fantasy-esque, Krogans are Copypasted Warcraft Orcs (and Wrex is a copypasted Thrall) just in space setting. Maybe Quarians are the only actual Sci-Fi species because of robots and enviro-suits.

Are you certain Mordin wouldn't some kind of magician too?

After all, if biotic powers are some kind of magic, then what about the tech powers like Snap Freeze and Incinerate?
