Auto-attack?

Earlier dev statements seemed to indicate that it would be a toggled option in the settings, but recent gameplay videos and the Twitch streams haven't shown any signs of auto-attack as far as I can see.

I really hope it's toggled. I like manually pressing a button for each attack. Makes me feel more connected with my character.

I think it's a toggle. It was there in DA2 I don't see why it would lack that option in DAI especially since people made a big deal about it early in the DA2 demo.

Someone else said it's a keybound toggle, in the PC twitch stream thread. Apparently they said it around minute 51:00 of the vid.

Thank god. Cos I remember you had no choice for DA2 I think on PC or Console?

There is auto attack. On console it's the right trigger (hold if you want to keep attacking) and on PC it's on both mouse and a keybind.
How does the auto-attack interact with the Knight Enchanter Spirit Blade ability? Do we have to click to attack each time to use it? We've been having a debate about that on the KE thread.
Thanks for all the awesome work.

On PC it was always auto-attack with no controller support, on Console it was having to tap a button repeatedly... for a month, first patch after release added in an option to allow auto-attack via a single button press. Question is, is there an option to make it so just tapping right trigger auto-attacks, or do we always have to hold down the button to keep attacking? Or is holding the button down more of an out of combat thing for testing/box breaking purposes?
I'm hoping I don't have to hold it down to keep attacking as my only option, though that is far, far better then having to tap A repeatedly. I may love stuff like recent Shadows of Mordor, but tapping A for DA just felt off, a lot of it has to do with the absurd repetition required with an RPG. I mean in other fighting games I don't have to tap a button 50+ times to kill a 'single' enemy, you know? DA2 on nightmare... I mean it's why I literally tried the game for a day then set it aside till they patched cause your thumb just starts hating you after awhile.
...That, and auto-attack ensues max DPS. With tapping you can screw your self over.

Edit: Whoops, ignore the first message.

Can we make the controlled attack to be on the mouse instead of the keyboard?? Also IS there the option to control each attack on PC instead of it all being auto? Please answer!

To be honest, needing to hold the button down to keep attacking doesn't sound like "auto attack"... I suppose it's better than needing to press the button over and over, though...

Something I found on 1:00:26, the Quizzy (now controlled by laidlaw) is performing a basic attack but he is not continously clicking it.
Edit: atleast thats what it looks like to me.

That's going to take some getting used to.

Can we re-bind the basic attack to another button on the controller (i.e. not the trigger)?
Thanks.

Way to clear the confusion... Holding a button to keep attacking is not autoattack. Make a comparison with DA2 and DAO.
Do I need a clicker application to reproduce the autoattack option of the previous games?

I'll be using manual so I don't really mind, but that's not the same auto-attack feature that was in DAO and DA2...
The stream was awesome by the way, thanks for KB&M footage finally.

Actually, can we re-map the buttons at all? So that maybe holding A or X would be the auto attack rather than a trigger? I'm guessing the answer is "no," but I figured I'd ask...

I'd really like to know the answer to this. Holding the trigger feels really awkward to me compared to how it worked in the first two games.

From the Twitter thread:
I'd like to confirm a thing or two back at work tomorrow before answering further, but in tactical view on PC there's definitely autoattack.

That would be nice. I'd much rather X be the attack button and the right trigger an ability button.

Derp - hold right trigger to use basic attacks, press face buttons to use abilities. Not that hard guys.
Attacking with right trigger allows you to do a couple of things - stop attacking easily whenever you please and continue to move the camera around you with the right stick mid fight so you can see what's around you. I think "auto attacking" is back in the traditional sense if you go into tactical cam view, command someone to attack, and then have time pass normally.

That would be my ideal setup too. The trigger really doesn't feel right for basic attacks (for non-shooters).

I think A/X is jump... I'd rather have the trigger jump rather than have to hold a trigger constantly during combat...

Yes, I understand this. But this is not autoattack. That's diablo. It's simple really.
Yes there is autoattack like previous games OR
No, now you have to hold the button for the character to chain basic attacks.
Clarity. Good thing.
