Auto-attack?

I think A/X is jump... I'd rather have the trigger jump rather than have to hold a trigger constantly during combat...

Ah yeah now that I check the vids again you're right. So by default X is jump, R1 is an ability and R2 is attack, hold for auto-attack.

If we can re-map, I'd prefer X for attack, R2 for ability and R1 for jump. If we can't remap then no biggie, I'll just get used to it.

Read my edited post please.

The control scheme is different between console and pc. I don't know how it works on consoles. This was a video about pc that doesn't provide definitive info on how exactly it works. Lee's post doesn't answer the question for the pc users. Holding the key is a different scheme. In every pc rpg game the character starts attacking without input from the player when he is in range. That's how it was on DAO and DA2.

For pc users Lee's post translates directly to "There is autoattacking but there isn't autoattacking". I know that if I hold the button the character chains based attacks. I understood this. But it's not autoattacking. It's not a big deal. Just requires some clarity.

Derp - hold right trigger to use basic attacks, press face buttons to use abilities.  Not that hard guys.

Attacking with right trigger allows you to do a couple of things - stop attacking easily whenever you please and continue to move the camera around you with the right stick mid fight so you can see what's around you.  I think "auto attacking" is back in the traditional sense if you go into tactical cam view, command someone to attack, and then have time pass normally.

Wow.  No reason to be rude.  There's nothing wrong with asking about a remap option.

I predict it is going to get a little uncomfortable, but I'll adapt too... maybe use my middle finger to hold the trigger instead?

Well it's not like you can use an ability and attack at the same time so I doubt that'll be an issue.

Luckily the PS4 controller's triggers are very ergonomic. I'll be using them often, lol.

Yeah,  I appreciate Cam coming here and replying but his answer didn't clear anything up.

I simply want to know if when I click on an enemy, will my character automatically do basic attacks without me having to click each time.

In tactical mode yes.

Yeah, I'd really like to know if I should get ready for more carpal tunnel syndrome like I got from Diablo.  In DA2 you'd have to click the button and they'd keep attacking until the enemy was dead.  This is acceptable.  PC player here.

What's "tactical mode" supposed to be on PC?

So if I prefer to play in third person, I'm now not allowed to use auto attack for whatever reason?

Why in the world would Bioware change something so integral to the series. I play this game for the auto attack(when it comes to combat), not to sit there and click my mouse constantly. This + the 8 combat abilities have been some of the worst design decisions I've seen in any game.

There's auto-attack for third person. Whether you have to hold the key down or not (like you do for controller) I'm not sure.

Zoomed out fully I'm guessing.

We have heard in tactical mode there's auto correct. For third person there most likely is but you'll have to see how it's implemented.

So basically it all depends on the mouse wheel?

If you zoom out beyond a certain threshold you flip into tactical mode. It works exactly like it does for controllers, with the added benefit of using the mouse to pick your targets.

I just don't get what tactical mode actually does on PC. I get that with a controller it gives you more of an isometric view, pause, and autoattack. But in theory PC could always have those features with KBM.

You can move the camera around and the movement commands have faces on the ground target. Basically nothing important.

And apparently auto-attack might be back. Do we know if that slowly allow time to progress button is still in?

Also, at 37:00 on the Twitch stream Laidlaw goes into the differences  between tac and non-tac (i.e detach camera, hit box rings, etc)

There was never slow-mo? I seem to think that was a misinterpretation of the engage button.

On PC, there is only "paused" and "not paused". You can pause and un-pause the game at any time, at any camera angle.

Tactical view gives you a nice little reticle to move around with a free camera (I wonder if Sylvius considers this cheating, since you can see behind obstacles and stuff with it). I can't tell what's controlling the reticle or camera movement, since there was still an active cursor (I don't know if there was a modifier key or if it was fully done on the keyboard or what). On PC, the tactical view has no perspective limitation (you can zoom in or out and reorient the camera as normal).

There is auto attack. On console it's the right trigger (hold if you want to keep attacking) and on PC it's on both mouse and a keybind.

Holding a trigger is not autoattack, looks like consoles get shafted like in DA2 again. Do we have to hold a button to "autoattack" on PC too?

You have to engage tactical mode, that is, use the zoomed out camera which is superior in every way to the third person action view anyway. Then consoles will get to see what it's like on PC.

For PC you have to scroll out all the way, into what was isometric in DA:O.

Could we please get a clear answer how ”auto” attack is going to work in this game?

Could some kind soul with twitter ask one of the devs directly?

Is there an one click auto attack?

Holding a button down is certainly not the same as the auto attack we got in the earlier games.

So Dark Souls then? Great exactly NOT what I wanted.

Trigger seems more pew pew a la Mass Effect does it not? Doesn't really seem very sword worthy.

This seemed pretty clear to me.

Hold trigger (or mouse and keybind) for your character to attack automatically.

Or

Tap trigger (mouse and key) to attack manually.

Wait, what? You have to hold a button to auto-attack on consoles? Guess i'll have to wait until a proper auto-attack function is patched in like DA2 before i'll make my first playthrough.
