Hell, why not jumping attacks.

It would be tricky to time that pause.

IIRC jumping is bound to same button as "use" and in tac cam that button changes to "go to"/"attack". So unless pathfinding includes jumps, it isn't available in tac cam mode.

We have no reason to believe that you can't jump in Tac Cam mode.

You don't control any character in particular in Tac Cam, you distribute orders and let them play out (or let the AI play out). I don't think jump is a possible order.

"Use" ??

Like, use Health potion, use quest marker, use door?

That would be LMB, wouldn't it?

So after I unpause the game in Tac Cam are all my characters (even the one currently selected) going to follow their selected tactics (AI)?

I don't think so.

What's "tactical mode" supposed to be on PC?

This allows the player to freeze time and give instructions to each member of your party.  So if you want to move a party member to a strategic position or have a party member throw a strategic spell, you set the action in tactical mode and then release your players to execute your commands.

So I don't know if this has been asked yet or not but, is auto attack tied/locked to what mode your in? So if your in action mod its always manual basic attacks and if your in tactical mode its always auto basic attacks? Also will auto attack be optional on all platforms this time? DA2 had a toggle to enable/disable auto attack but that was only on the consoles.

From what I could gather, it's "use whatever your character has targeted at the moment". Things that have "A" over them when using gamepad. That kind of "use". So it makes character jump if there's nothing to interact with, and interacts with things that are near enough to be targeted.

It's tied to camera mode. In Action mode (3rd person cam) it's always manual, in tac cam it's always auto. On all platforms.

What I don't understand is although to "auto attack" you hold down a button/key but if you order your companions to attack an enemy they will auto attack just fine?

Well yeah of course they will. But that is not "auto-attack". That is the AI controlling them.

Its like saying the enemy npc's have auto-attack. The problem people seem to be upset about is that they cannot directly control a character and have it continually do the basic attack function without user input.

This is a bit interesting. I don't know what the functionality could be, but it seems that Mike was able to use the cursor to interact with the environment around 3:35-3:45 of this video http://youtu.be/Ff4LWEX-xe0?t=3m38s (clicks on a fallen enemy, I think). This was done in the third person mode, not tactical cam mode.

They've confirmed you can use the cursor in 3rd person, that isn't the issue. They've even confirmed you can perform a singe attack with a single left cursor click, or multiple attacks by holding down the left clicker. The problem is in DAO you could issue an 'attack until enemy is dead' command to your controlled character with a single left click, while in DAI you cannot do so in 3rd person.

And I fail to see how that alienates the vast majority of gamers. Does it not bore you to click something and simply wait until your character has killed it for you? I know that's a slight exaggeration, but how does that function allow for dynamic combat? Auto-attacking is not the function that made DAO combat interesting; if anything, it was a stale combat mechanic, even back then. Tactics made DAO interesting: I'll bring Sten to the front to do X, while Leliana picks off 1 and 2 with Y and Z.  I've never enjoyed Select all, left click, watch fight, eat some chips, wipe hands on pants, pick nose

You always have exactly one character selected. Every command you give is given to that character.

While I'm annoyed that we can't multi-select, having access to abilities like jumping would at least justify the restriction, to some degree.

No-one's ever said it alienates a vast majority, nor does an issue need to do so before people raise concerns. We're providing feedback to Bioware that we think this change is bad and unnecessary if you disagree feel free to do so, but there is certainly nothing wrong with voicing ones opinions, 'different strokes for different folks' as it were.

When in the Tactical Cam mode, you control the camera not a party member. You can clearly see this in this gameplay video from last week. Mike is switching between pause-unpause moving the Tactical Camera along the way. He than ask Sera to use Long Shot and unpause causing everyone else to do default Tactic actions at the start of combat.

Since PC has access to more keys that console, I'm sure we'll be able to map jump to a button that isn't taken by anything else when we go Tac Cam, I'm just still unsure whether we'll be able to WASD drive during Tac Cam (which is kinda  a prereq for jumping, unless they have some really complicated path planning in Tac Cam).

Actually while in Tac Cam you see him switch the active character several times in the Twitch from 2? weeks ago. (The one where he is lvl 4). So you do maintain 'control' of a single character even while in Tac Cam. The camera just moves independently of the controlled character.

I fail to see how repetitive clicking is even slightly interesting. In the real world, we automate processes like that because they're dull amd they're more work than they need to be.

If I know now that I want my character to attack this enemy until something else happens, it's way less annoying to be able to give that command once, rather than having to give it once per second.

Everone but the selected character. He is giving him orders directly (read:controling him).

Controled character won't follow his tactics.

As a computer programmer who does s.o.p cmd(Mac)+space instead of typing out System.out.println every time I wanna see some output I whole heartily agree with this statement :)

If you're watching television, would you like to be able to set the channel once and then enjoy the program, or would you prefer that the television forced you to confirm your viewing choice every 30 seconds? If you don't respond in time, it turns itself off

How is that better?

True, but he will auto attack his current target until it dies, which hopefully will be added to 3rd person mode as well sooner or later.

Barrett's comments suggest that we can't WASD in Tac Cam.

But it could also work like ME3's cover mechanic.

:(

I was hoping to just use Tac Cam all the time, but I love WASD over point click for exploration (in combat then obviously point click is more precise and doesn't require supervision).
