As soon as I saw the chaos and Morrigan in the cast, my first thought was Morrigan's Old God child is causing this.
Speculation - What's causing the rifts?

I'm sticking with my Hypothesis that the Elder One is a being that was originally trapped in the Golden/Black City, is behind the creation of the Darkspawns and manipulated and tricked the Magisters into freeing him.
Along with the Rift is the result of the EO finally gaining back enough of his power to affect the Veil and attempt to enter Thedas..

Oghren finally ate or drank something that didn't agree with him and has some really bad extradimensional gas going on now. The final quest will be to solve his IBS.

The OGB would be like 9-10 and may not exist in some play through so no, he will probably never be a main plot point or a villain. unless they completely ignore half the players who didn't choose the Dark Ritual. so plainly No the OGB is not the Elder One.
Its nice to hear theories and everything, but maybe you should just look at some FAQs of what the Dev's have said and such.

The lyrium embedded at the site where the game blew up like fuel and tore open the Veil.

Well i couldn't help. I loved the Legend of the Seeker so here is my true explanation. it is Darken Rahl, he destroyed the boxes of Orden in Thedas with the Sword of Truth and created the tear in the veil. We need the stone of Tears and a Confessor for backup.

Between Anders, the dark ritual baby, Conner(Eamons son), Architect and Crater baby there are plenty of potential options but sadly all of them could have died through plot decisions. Im hoping they try to tie them in and bioware doesnt allow a writing team to have a fiasco similar to the ME conclusion

Heh. heh. Crater baby. Are you talking about Superma - I mean, the star child?

I'm thinking the Elder One is the DA version of Satan. Kind of hoping for the Maker and him to beat the **** out of each other during the end of the game.

well, he does claim the maker does not exist, which makes me think he is the being that we call ''Maker" but everything we beleive about this maker is wrong.

Interesting theory, especially given that Corypheus states that the Golden City was already black when they got there. What if there never was a Golden City... ever, and it was always black.
Would and could be an interesting twist but I'm not buying it. The Maker may not be what the Chantry says he is, but I don't think he's the complete antithesis of what he's said to be. You could argue there has to be some truth to the myth, just have to pick out those pieces that are true and what isn't true. I think there's definitely more to what happened and what's going on than the Chantry knows or perhaps would even like to admit!

I am leaning more towards this as well, but it may even be something completely different, can't wait to find out!

That doesn't work, unless the real main character of the game is Cassandra (a real Seeker of Truth)...

I'm sure this is all Hawke's fault somehow.
Likely.
