Anyone else passed the event horizon of hype?

I wasn’t particularly hype for Dragon Age 2, because while I loved DAO I was disappointed because it didn’t reach the heights of NWN and BG. Then DA2 became my favourite RPG ever (possibly except BG2).

I was quite hype about ME3 because I loved ME2, but then ME3 was a crushing disappointment.

I’ve never been more hype about a game than I am now, though.

I really don’t think this is going to be another ME3 situation, because I think the writers are just more sophisticated. In Mass Effect, the writers had a tendency to emphasise broad themes like “tolerance is good” and “good people sacrifice themselves for others” and “if you try hard enough you can always save everyone”.

By contrast, DAO and DA2 emphasised themes of family and acceptance (as differentiated from mere tolerance) with the Hawke family storyline, order, conformity and agency with the Arishok’s storyline, and the whole templar/mages/lyrium issue was wonderfully fraught. I have faith in their writing.

I also think that not having to tie up a long-running story in the same way that ME3 did will work in DAI’s favour. They’ll have more room to build new stories and less reason to resort to ridiculous deus ex machina to tie things up.

I've honestly never been so hyped for a game before quite like this. It's on my mind every waking moment.

I need to get outside more  -_-

The last time I passed that event horizon was with Ocarina of Time when I was a kid.  I've never approached that level of anticipation since.  The closest I ever got was probably with ME3.  I'm not where near it with DA:I.  That doesn't mean I'm not excited; it's just that I have other stuff to keep me occupied!

I'm not really hyped, just annoyed. I accept that marketing the product is pretty much a given these days with a franchise a big as this. But then you realise that the game could of been out 2-3 months quicker without all this song and dance made around it.

Yeah, because marketing was totally the reason for the delay. Not that they're still troubleshooting, even now, and maybe want to deliver the best product they possibly can.

If I have one small concern it's that while they are pushing AMD cards I would hope this game doesn't give any trouble to those of us using Nvidia as bad performance upon launch could alienate many whatever good story or mechanics there are in the game.

Just because of the Mantle support? I wouldn't worry too much about it as it isn't limited to DA:I, but to the Frostbite Engine in general. And honestly, Mantle only really matters for people who have a noticeably better GPU than CPU, anyway - it's basically just the perfect workaround to prevent a CPU-bottleneck.

Oh, I am rather calm while waiting for DA:I...even though it looks extreamly awesome, and that Bioware seems to have taken in alot of what the fans want..I'm...completly calm. I'm also calm about the fact that the Keep can be released pretty much any day now...just...t-...totaly calm...

What kills me is that my business becomes incredibly busy during the Christmas season.

So... Nov. 18th is close to THE worst time for it to come out for me.

However... AFTER Christmas, I close my doors for two months, so THAT'LL be fun.

Nope.

I am very much looking forward to DAI and have preordered the Inquisitor's edition, so objectively you can make the argument that I am hyped, but I still maintain a selective blackout. I watch gameplay and get the itching to play it, but I so far successfully avoided most spoilers and aim to continue with that.

I was more hyped about ME3 actually...because it was like, I don't know, the sixth novel from Game of Thrones? Finally the continuation of the story that left you quite hanging in ME2? And then...well, lets just say if GRR Martin pulls out such an ending out of his behind he might really be in trouble...

With DAI? I haven't actually preorderd it yet...so I don'z call it hype. I will play it on rlease, and I am looking forward to it. But its not like I consider it the best supertastic game of the year to be. I expect it to be solid, with likeable and charming NPCs,

Also hopefully it has a somewhat entertaining story that DOES NOT end somehow in some kind of cliffhanger to make us buy DLCs or, also a concern, is so bleak and ambigous just for the sake of being edgy and dark/grey and stuff...I want this fade-problem be solved within this game, potential DLCs merely paving the way for future game-titles, but NOT expaning the vanilla-main-quest! And it would be really, really great to have an actual VILLAIN this time, from start to finish (and I mean a somewhat evil villain, twirling his moustache! How I miss that from some recent RPGs...)
