From watching the new stream from Bioware.

Josephine: I LOVE THAT ACCENT! But I wonder about that candle on your board, it looks like you will get a lot of candle wax on your notes.

Cullen: Soft and lovely voice, he speaks quite nicely to a female Dalish. I wonder if he is already attracted to you as an elf...

Leliana: She is really interesting in this game :D, I can't wait to speak with her personally.

From other previews.

Sera: Cool voice. Her personality shines through the dialogue with companions.

Iron Bull: Your voice is weird, and those pants... What is up with those pants?!

I haven't heard as much from the other characters, I have seen the others but not enough time to form an opinion of them.

Oh dear... I certainly hope what we saw is not representative.

Please excuse my meaness... I just want to rant and then I will be positive and supportive, I promise.

First of all the Inquisitor was, well, ummm, ahhh, yikes.. and that hair? The body shape seemed weird...a bit sholderless . Maybe she is anorexic. voice is good though.

Cassandra - lighten up will you?

Lelianna - what happened to your personality? You annoyed the crap out of me in DAO but a least you had some enthusiasm. And why do you look 10 years younger and like the trailer version of Lelianna that we never saw in the actual game?

Cullen... I so wanted to romance you, but you need to powder your face and quit with the pompous Templar bit. It is getting stale. Also, would it hurt you to smile, laugh, chuckle, something???

Josie is the only one with a bit of personality, but I found her rather unattractive and the Antivan accent grates on me (tried to avoid talking to Zevran too).

Varric we need you. We need some charm, humour, levity...the blandness may just kill me.

Ok feel way better now. Cant wait to play. Just pre-ordered.

Characterization is a Bioware specialty.  I'm sure we'll get a lot more in depth with them, especially considering 3 out of the 4 are fully integrated romanceable characters. :D

It's my understanding Cullen even serenades his Lady Inquisitor?  Romancing him just on the basis of that rumor I heard and because I want to hear Greg Ellis sing.  Pretty sure that qualifies in the 'lighten up' department  ;) ((Yes, I know you said that about Cass, but it kind of fits what you said about Cullen too)).

Wish we'd seen more tbh, I'd love to have seen all the intros....but I can wait.

Let's see:

Leliana: She seemed a bit mellowed out, but that comes with age and experience.

Josephine: Fast learner and knows how people think. I can't get her voice out of my head. Her voice was so enchanting. And people are saying she's unattractive o.O

Cullen: It was 10pm when I saw the video...I didn't fall asleep until 2:30am xp. And he's still getting all this hate after only about 3 - 5 minutes of interaction. De ja Vu much people? I play as a mage, but I understand his concern: filling up a big magic induced breach could possibly be like adding fuel to a forest fire. His other remarks didn't seem anti-mage or bigoted. Yes, you can hear some of his past experiences in the way he speaks about magic. His opinions just seem more to err on the side of caution and not jump in feet first IMHO.

Cullen: He'll be cool, so long as he remembers who's in charge, and that the Inquisition is not the Templar Order.

Josephine: She's pretty smooth. I have a feeling I'm gonna love employing her skills.

Leliana: I have much use of a spymaster, so lets get down to business.

Cassandra: To the point. I like that no-nonsense approach, and we are in a crisis.

Josephine was a breath of fresh air, a really great character.

Not much to say about Leliana and Cassandra, they were about what I expected. (Which is good)

Cullen... I'm not sold yet. I don't understand why he got the job, and he isn't that interesting.

He got the job thru fanservice, just check out the threads in all three dragon age forums, he has a huge fanbase for some reason that i don't understand he was a 30 sec background character.....but thats ok as long as he plays his part well....

Not that impressed with josephine...not her character mind you just her appearance ....not to my taste and its the same with miss perma-scowl face Cass.

Not sure if i will like the new leliana yet...i liked her personality in DAO but that seems to have changed to darker side in her.

I don't understand it either. The one explanation I have is fan girl service. Bioware likes to give romances we will like and for some reason a lot of people playing mages latched on to Cullen since DAO, that forbidden love fruit from the circle.

My first warden was an elven mage so I did think that was terribly cute and a bit tragic. However I didn't like Cullen THAT much and never expectyed him to return in DA2 and much less now in such a prominent role. But hey whatever. I also don't like how they prettied him, which just supports my theory.

He was a ginger, why not keep him a ginger? >.> He progressively got blonder and aged backwards apparently. Anyway....

They would have needed a templar wouldn't they? Since you can play mage but not really templar for them to be represented it would have to as one of your companions/advisers and then a slightly sympathetic templar who has good personal established resons to be wary of magic.

Yeah don't see how he's anti-mage.

Plus he made good points both in the dangers of magic and potential usefulness of Templars anti-magic abilities in combating the Rift.

It isn't so much what he did personally as what he allowed to go on. He was a high ranking member of the templar order in Kirkwall and didn't look into either Alriks (who tranquilised mages who weren't a danger to themselves and others and was implied to have raped them afterwards when they wouln't protest) or Karras who's also allegedly (the mage said so) told a mage he would be tranquil for telling anyone that Karras was in his chambers. Naturally I don't hold Cullen personally responsiable for the sins of all the krikwall templars but it's one thing to belive in the templars mission and another to be blind to what it's members do in the dark. I would be much more inclined to like Cullen if he showed remorse for what has happened to the mages but still hold fast with his ideals and wanted to work out a solution. The fact that he wants to go to the templars without presenting personal knowledge of anything about them other then that they are templars seems to hint at that he still automaticlly thinks they are the good guys. That's not to say that they would't be but we don't know that yet and neither does he.

(More reaction to the area than the people)

Inquisitor: Um, I know ya'll are important and stuff but can we go to a room that's less stuffy? Maybe with a window? Man, this place is dark. You guys have any sticks? I can put some veil fire around at the very least. No? Just gonna bicker about mages and- Oh wow you people are pretty. I suddenly feel inadequate. Um...to go through the explosion again just to fix my face or not...

Cullen: Is the Herald alright? They've been muttering for a while.

Cassandra: *sigh*

Cullen: Hated you in DA:O, completely failed to even notice you were the same character in DA2 because of how bland a character you were and how pointless your inclusion was, and continued to dislike you here. How did you get this job again? I mean other than having a loyal fanbase, you have no real qualifications, especially considering the mess in Kirkwall that you were partly responsible for. I'd much rather have someone with less extreme bias. Just to warn you now, you'd better watch your back cause one mistake and it's <draws finger across throat>

Cassandra: We're either going to butt heads all game or be BFFs.

Josephine: Are you related to Kelly Chambers?

Leiliana: Glad to have you back aboard! Now let's go shopping! What? You don't do that anymore? Are you anything like the old Leiliana? No? None of her charm? Not even a little? Sigh.

Magic is inherently dangerous. Mages are not.
People are inherently dangerous. A Person is not.

A psychopath with a gun is pretty damn dangerous. I was going to make a joke here about middle school but realized the joke was in poor taste. Suffice to say middle schoolers are not dangerous, but particular middle schoolers can be. I think you can work out the joke yourself if you want.

Josephine- Like her better now that I see her in action.

Cassandra- indifferent to her

Leliana- seems more solemn but I've always been indifferent towards her, Morrigan was my favorite among the female companions.

Cullen- Interested in his past. He seems interesting and I hope to see his background fleshed out.

Overall, I can't wait for this game to come out. I'm probably gonna spend 2hrs on character creation alone.

From what I have seen I like all of them, however I hope they become more than their "area". That Cullen doesn't become the "lets kill/intimidate everyone!" in every aspect of his character and that Josephine doesn't become the character who seemes to have no other goal than to make everyone get along. These characteristics can easily be treated as goals themselves instead of ways to achieve goals.

However I do also agree with 99% of the earlier speakers my inquisitor will have a bit of an ugly duckling complex next to all these pretty people.

I didn't really like/dislike Cullen in the earlier games but I am a bit curious about him this time around. Will he have to face both the horrors of mages and templars and work for a solution or will he still say "Yes I know some of the order raped, mindfucked and in general were assholes but it's still better than if the mages were doing it!" I get his point of view a bit but he has never really tried to improve ANY situation he was put in untill his boss literally went insane. You can be for the templars without being blind to their more ruthless colleagues behavior.

Leilana I have literally no idea what happened. It's not that I dislike this side of her more that I fear that the way they explain it will be clunky at best. If they do a good job then I will be extremly happy! Character development FTW!

I hope that Josephine is a bit more devious and manipulative then she seemes and that you can take notice of this. A diplomat sort of has to be to not become the camp-councilor of the council. Everytime Kelly remarked just how much she liked everyone in mass effect I just about lost it. But her behavior and the flover text from her interactions with the war tables were all nice.

And  Cassadra, ohh Cassandra what made her belive that a) the inquisitor shouldn't be put down like dog for being fade-changed and B) if the Inquisitor was sufficiantly helpful that she shouldn't be put down why not just leed the neewbie around like a fade-scar on a string? I liked what I saw but like Leilana the path is worth just as much as the destination when it comes to characters.

Josephine - Marry me right now!

Cassandra - I'm not into bondage, but I could be.

Leliana - Just want to give her a hug, but with my luck that would be when the Warden suddenly appears and proceeds to chop me in half for trying to steal his girl.

Cullen - Apparently in the Dragon Age universe you fail your way into a position of power.

i dont care what anybody says, Cullen needs to be there on the basis of Greg Elis' voice alone. And the fact that he is handsome.. and blonde....

I dont understand why people think mages should be supported(from an its not fair to the mages perspective) at all costs when every single one has the potential to become an abomination, and all through da2 the mages you fight either are blood mages or possessed by demons.. Its not that i think mages should be persecuted left and right but they need some form of supervision , they need a "counter" just the fact that a templar order exists keeps mages from completely going hayware. Mages outside of the circle can still live but they have to be careful of how they use their magic, and not abuse it, a fear they wouldnt have if it werent for the templars. Too much of either side isnt good i think.

Thats from a rational perspective, there needs to be a templar order. From a personal, mage playing, misanthropic persons perspective? hehehehe.....

I think Lelianas transition is perfectly natural, she is a hardened, jaded and world-weary woman,  no longer a naive little girl babbling about shoes and the maker 24/7. She's finally realized the world aint no group hug

Josephine i really like, underneath that polished and innocent veneer is a cunning and shrewd woman.

Cassandra is just bleh, no social skills what so ever, and i find her constantly interrupting people extremely annoying. I dont understand why a woman has to be completely devoid of femininity and social grace to be "strong". I wear make up and look very cutesy and girly, but i dont put up with bs from anyone.

edit in regards to Cullen im pretty sure he left the templar order because he wasnt happy about their ideals, so where is this he is "kill all mages " stuff coming from?

I loved seeing the characters live for the first time. I think they're gonna be an interesting bunch and they'll balance each other's opinion well. Can't wait to see how, as the Inquisitor, we can talk with them and make them see our point of view. But more in particular:

Cullen: Okay, I'm gonna sound like appearance is all that matters to me (which is not the case), but DAMN he's a hottie. Besides that, I like how he still believes in the Templars, even after all that's happened. I can't wait to see how that plays out (even more since I'm gonna play a Mage for my first playthrough). Gonna romance him for sure with one of my female characters eventually. We'll see, but I have hope for him now.

Josephine: What a beautiful woman with a charming personality. This is good. I was kind of unsure about her at first but I like her more and more. I think I'm gonna go with diplomatic options a lot more than expected. She looks like she's the most objective of the advisors. Interesting!

Leliana: I must say I'm biased: I always loved Leliana. My canon Female Mage Warden and her were BFFs, so I have a soft spot for her. Like many others said, though, she does look a bit more hardened, especially about mages. I hope I can make her see the good side of Mages with my first Inquisitor, though. I'm thrilled that she is part of this game in a more prominent way than she was in DA2.

Cassandra: I didn't really like Cassandra until the end of DA2 (and even at that point, it was kinda meh). Yes, she does look badass though. And I like her more and more. She's a strong woman alright and won't tolerate any bullsh*t. Not too sure about the Herald thing, though. She and I might not get along well at the beginning. But she's still a more interesting character than I thought she'd be.

So for me it was a very positive first look. Love the characters in general (as in not only those four, but all the companions as well) and I think this game's story and character development is gonna be AWESOME.

alright here goes:

Josephine: .......a "Diplomate" and a shopaholic, great they put my wife in a video game...... not to self: wife must never discover video game wife is more attractive.

Cassandra: Cold as Ice, You know that you are!

Cullen: oh great it's you, I can practically hear defenceless mage's dying already.

Liliana: Overtly religious, a thief, a murder and not even cutting off her head stop's her being all judgemental.......... they made my mother in law as well.  :(
