Hi!

So I've been excited about this game since it was announced, I love all the Dragon Age/BioWare games =D

But I wonder why I can't order a physical copy of the Deluxe Edition or Collectors edition in Europe (Sweden) for PC?

Anyone know if it will be possible soon or if they'll not release deluxe in physical form for PC?

Thanks

They probably won't - Australia don't get the deluxe edition (physical) for PC, either. I'm still annoyed by that.

I don't get it, why all the consoles, even "old gen" and not PC? Seems kinda off to me since they've put alot of work into the PC version. I don't know if it's true or not but it seems to me that the core bioware fans are PC gamers

European money not good enough then? =P Seems legit lol. I mean, I can't really find a reason to why not sell it in Europe

Exchnage rates mean that they get less Dollars per product so if it was in a store, they'd have to share

Typically console owners prefer disc's over Digital downloads

No idea. I'm just grasping at straws trying to come up with a reason that might make sense.

It doesn't make sense =P Atleast not to me... =/

Me too, that's the edition I was going to get so now I'm getting the standard edition and hoping you can upgrade through origin

So do some PC players... like me for example.  :P

Well, it's the only one with any bit of logic behind it.

I could just say that EA hates pc players, but that would be daft.

Have you seen the price of the Digital Deluxe edition on Origin? That's why.

£60. Ludicrous.

and yet it's cheaper than the Deluxe Edition for consoles. I'd pay for it

Console games are always more expensive due to the premium that Microsoft and Sony tack on. Superimposing that price directly onto the PC version is price gouging.

Look at the price for the non-deluxe PC version. It's a ridiculous £50 on Origin, but I can get the physical version for £40 at any store, and some places even lower.

Origin's UK prices just aren't in step with reality. I would never normally buy directly from them, but they are forcing UK customers to buy the deluxe version there by giving us no choice.

spoken to my local game retailer on this, they have it in there release mag and i have had it preordered for six months, asked them how they are going to be selling the deluxe edition when it isnt being released here, they told me that they will get it from outside suppliers (probably there sister company gamestop) in the states, so if it comes from new york or LA they said they will be getting it in, i hope this is the case as i would hate to be dissapointed

I'm going to Gamestop (Sweden) this weekend to ask them. I would've done it sooner but I expected that they would "announce" deluxe edition or something. but it seems this is not the case so might just as well go there and ask them.

Hi,

Trying to come up with a possible explanation of the OP's first question, it might make sense if this is a kind of field test to gauge consumer reactions to going digital only. The financial incentive for the publishers to go that way sooner or later is strong if they can manage it technically, even if the majority of gamers today still prefer physical versions. So EA might accept irritating some of their customers if the information they can get out of this stunt is valuable enough for them.

The sales numbers in the US/CA market with full access to all versions could serve as a kind of control versus the restricted EUR/AUS market, necessary for generating meaningful numbers. This would explain why there is no restriction in North America.

As to why only the PC version is affected: on the one hand, it is easier for EA to organize additional capacity for downloading the digital alternative. To my knowledge you can get only PC/Mac versions on Origins in any case; for console versions EA probably would have to involve PSN/Xbox live (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, Sony/Microsoft might not have agreed to limit the Deluxe version for their platforms to digital, fearing losses because of gamer preferences or not willing/able to provide necessary download bandwidth. PC version sales however are of no relevance to them. Even better for them, some gamers who prefer PC but also have a console might end up buying the console version under current circumstances.

And it might not even affect EA's sales negatively. I mean, if you are strongly enough involved with the game that you are willing to pay a premium for some extra content (at, arguably, diminishing returns), will you just completely walk away from the purchase if you don't get your preferred version, or will you bite the bullet and choose a less desirable option? Apart from the digital version, after all you could still buy the console version if you have one, or the basic physical version plus download the DLC later, or you could import from the US if you are happy with the English version.

So, yes, it's not that EA hates PC gamers. It might be just less of a risk to annoy them.

If I buy the Deluxe Edition in US, will I be able to play it correctly here in Sweden? Or will I get some "not available in this region" bullshit?

All this would make sense and might even be fine, if Origin sold games at the same prices as the other retailers here. But... it sells for £10-20 more.

Hm... I was referring specifically to the Deluxe Editon. On game.co.uk (the only retailer offering it in the UK), the physical Deluxe Editions for the new consoles are sold for £ 60, for the old ones for £ 55. You said in a previous post

which is the same price as for the new console versions.

Granted, one would expect the PC versions to be less expensive than the console ones, given the royalties for MS/Sony, and that is the case here in Germany, where amazon.de (also exclusively) offers the physical Deluxe Edition for € 80 for all consoles, while on Origin the digital Deluxe Edition for PC is € 70.

On the other hand, in the USA amazon.com sells all (physical) versions, console or PC, of the Deluxe Edition for $ 70, so there the console tax is obviously not reflected in the end price.

Well, we have three factors at play here.

1) Console versions of games are more expensive than PC games. That is normal.

2) Digital versions of PC games on Origin are more expensive than physical PC games from any other retailer. That is stupid.

3) EA are refusing to sell the PC Deluxe Edition anywhere else but Origin in the UK. Combined with #2 above, that is extortionate.

Even if Origin is as vastly overpriced in other countries as it is here, at least those other countries get the chance to buy the physical version for the normal price.

It's the ridiculousless of Origin's prices that are causing this problem. If they were the same as normal retailers, I would have no problem with being limited to a digital version.

Ok, so you care about the price, but not the medium. Meaning your issue with EA's policy here is a different one than the OP's , who specifically asked about the physical version.
